The NO contacts are the ones closest to the relay coils. Like when the magnetism of the coils pulls the wiper towards it.

Contact designs need to be improved.
how to see and distinguish no contacts from nc?
    I can't read your diagram.

Is that 'D' switch that changes the CLR to Set, an SPDT 'center-off' switch?

Amazing circuit, but whitch of the contacts are NO and which NC?

Are you sure there is no mistake in the curcuit? I have built it and it does not work.
Can the coils be polarized in your curcuit?

It is correct. You can read more in the section DFLIP subunit here simonwinder.com/projects/relay-calculating-engine/calculating-engine-documentation/

Can you make it without diodes?

      No sadly

Well, I think of some of the first relay-only computers. There were no semi-conductors then ...
Does that mean they did without the use of a flip-flop concept ?
Somehow I think they did it without using any diodes ... they just did not have them ...
Maybe have another relay that handle the back-propagation to open the circuit you want to keep open during the 'problematic states' ...
      Hope I make sense ...

AAAHHH this is so confusing I can't even imagine what the people go through that design desktop computors

the way you drew the schematic is unclear. it does not seem to follow standard way schematics are drawn. It also appears that both sides of the relay coil are connected to ground. this does not make any sense

There are no center off relays here.
