    The riff to this song is badass. The structure and the melody is fantastic throughout. You can have your opinion on it though, don’t be ashamed.

    And now its time for one of my favourite Ghost songs ever. Before that, just make sure you remember how Imperium sounded like. I only say this album is about a cycles of rising and falling of empires. Just a small hint. :D

    Elvis was one of the best singers/entertainers/ showman....he sang with such passion. He arranged many songs he covered to make them his own. As he got older, his voice grew stronger. If I Can Dream in white suit from 68 comeback special usually throws many for a loop because they didn't know he could sing that way.
    Elvis and Tobias are my favorite singers

    Hey, man. Don't apologize for not enjoying a song! Every fan has their own favorites and least liked tracks, there's nothing wrong with that. I for one like Griftwood a lot, the guitar riff and the lyrics hit the right spot for me. It still feels like something that Ghost would do, a poppy and easygoing track about a dictator or religious leader making promises of power and influence to their followers in a twisted way. For sure it's different from their previous albums, but Tobias definitely knows what he's doing.

    I'm glad you have taken the Ghost journey....it's been fun to watch your reactions. Very genuine. I love when something clicks with you and you get that smirk on your face.
    The last song on this album gets tied up into a pretty bow. It really hits in the feels for me.

    This is probably my second favorite song on the album, so I don’t get your criticisms. But that’s fine :) Respite is my no.1 though so I’ll be a bit heartbroken if you don’t like that one 😅

    Thanks for giving your honest reaction. You are totally allowed to not like a song! Don’t apologize and if anyone gives you shit or stops watching you just cuz you don’t dig their song… well that’s just weird. Plus I think this one will grow on you. Keep up the good work! 👍

    I feel ya, I love this song because of how insanely full and grandiose and beautiful the breakdown part leading into the solo is, that part stands out so much, it's incredible.

    • @25shinedown

      to me, that part overshadows the song in a good way for me, but I can see how you feel that the other parts weigh it down, its a great contrast and I appreciate the view.

    you were right on the timing, throughout the progression of the song, it changes back and fourth between 5/4 - 4/4 timing, adds that extra level of uniqueness to it, a lot of people of they change time sigs these days will go from 4/4 to say, 2/4 or whatever and stay in that evened out ratio, rather than do something more experimental (might be the wrong wording for that) but it pays off and allow you more freedom with writing alternating riffs

    Yeah I'd say Griftwood was one that grew on me eventually but in the beginning I wasn't a huge fan. It was that middle section that kept drawing me to the song and I would skip to there until the rest of it just fell into place and I love it now. So I totally get how you feel.
    This is a song that they've played live only a handful of times and while I've read many say it's their weakest song to perform live, I find that Tobias' vocals sound much better than on the studio. I think the hardest part for them is trying to harmonise properly when the key keeps changing and *it is* such a difficult song to sing.
    Anyway, thank you for another amazing video😇 I'm actually currently watching your the Last of Us playthrough, my favourite review channel + my favourite video game = perfection.

    Really understand and respect the opinion. I feel like this album has a lot of happy sounds but angry and tragic lyrics. In my opinion its one of those things where it doesn’t get you at first but the more you listen, the better it gets especially when you really pull apart the lyrics and all the instruments included.

    Now you got me thinking do I looove the song only for that middle part or... Hahahaha. But this one caught my ear first album listen then it fell off a bit and once again hooked me in so much. That middle is just otherworldly so I don't mind bookends of the song, they change it slightly enough not to get overplayed.

    You have your own tastes, and no apologies are necessary- I don't think anyone should be reading it as you hating on them. This whole album will grow on you...the whole damn library will continue to grow on you as you've seen...Respite is one of my favorites on the album, and I think you'll enjoy it. The thing is, the songs are on the album in the order that Tobias wanted them because they tell a story. It's fairly "political", but it's really more about the state of the world now.

  • @absea7918
    @absea7918 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This was placed late in the album, so Tobias probably didn't feel so strong about it - it really leans into 80's guitar shredding - the main riff is VH's Ain't Talkin' Bout Love looped. The middle section is classic Ghost, and the best part. The solo absolutely rips - probably the only place on Impera where Tobias let Frederik loose.

    • @ronaldorodriguez104
      @ronaldorodriguez104 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, I feel like this second half of the album fits better together and dare I say is the strongest half of the album compared to the first. All of the songs are great and this is probably my favorite album yet, but in my opinion the B side is the most well thought out and put together

  • @jmwmusic91
    @jmwmusic91 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just for what it's worth, I thought it was interesting that you said it sounded like a "major key song" except for the section in the middle -- the song is minor, EXCEPT for the middle section which IS in major! I love the whole song but I do agree that's the best part of it, just goes to show it's not as simple as major/minor. I wonder if it's more a tempo thing, where you're preferring the heavier feel to the middle where the verses/choruses are more upbeat?

    • @rockdariff
      @rockdariff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idk for sure..damn I swear the middle section to me sounds darker then the verses and chorus of the track

  • @ddavis538
    @ddavis538 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The solo is easily my favorite part of this song. The chorus gets a touch too repetitive for me, but I still like this song. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Bite of Passage / Respite on the Spitalfields.
    After that, if you're willing to check out their covers, one I would recommend that isn't on any album is Sympathy for the Devil with Papa IV performing with the Hellacopters. His voice gets some real grit and darkness.

      @jerm2011 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rockdariff yeah that's ones ok but Deathless Sun, Ov Thy Herculean Exile and Versus Christos are (imo) the standout tracks from the album. When you review "The Deathless Sun" I highly recommend doing the "Opus Contra Culturam" version of it instead of the actual album version. This is a performance/cinematic version of the song recorded from the roof of the Palace of Culture in Warsaw. It's the better version, honestly.

    Not here to bring politics into the great discussion happening here, but Tobias has admitted that this song is straight up about Mike Pence.

  • @IRanOutOfPhrases
    @IRanOutOfPhrases ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree with your criticisms of the song. For me, this one feels like they ended up playing it a bit too safe. I think this is just an inferior version of Spillways. It's a fine song for what it is, but to me it stands out as the least interesting on the album. I don't know, maybe if it wasn't surrounded by an album loaded with absolute bangers, this would have hit different, but it's in very competitive company, haha
    But even the general message of the song is relatively safe. It's a big dig at Pence, which I'm pretty sure is one thing the right & left are equally united on (albeit for completely different details/reasons, lol)
    The song is fine. But probably similar to where you are right now: I don't know why this one is so often pushed as a "You GOTTA check this one out!", haha

    • @IRanOutOfPhrases
      @IRanOutOfPhrases ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, and I'm guessing you will get hate for expressing some negativity here. I just want to be sure to give you a pre-emptive counter-message to that on the positive side: Your honesty is refreshing to see in the "react to music" genre on TH-cam where you can tell some people are definitely faking it, lol.

    • @neuralmute
      @neuralmute ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I think that this is a weaker track on an overall extremely strong album too. But it's placement at least makes Respite sound that much better afterward, and Respite is a bloody *masterpiece.*

  • @magnusblomqvist966
    @magnusblomqvist966 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Griftwood is about Mike Pence. Twenties was a little bit about Trump. Tobias is getting political. This song is absolutely fantastic. The bridge is to die for and the whole song is just so well written. You really need to step up and read the lyrics. You're missing out on why this album is the standout of 2022.
