That really kills me that the doctor allowed her prejudice regarding the circumstances (and possibly the patient's preexisting mental illness, despite the fact that it was being properly treated) to affect her level of diligence. I'm glad the accident investigator stood up and insisted.
Nerys Ghemor, yes. He’s an exceptional officer. Even though it is just an opinion, most people in his situation would take the doctor’s opinion at face value (She is the expert, after all.) and proceed with legal prosecution. This officer dug a little deeper and got to the root of what actually happened, saving not only this young man from incarceration for several years, but also a very long, difficult and expensive legal process.
Exactly why I do not trust a Dr strictly on face value! They’re human and are prone to make an error in judgement...plus opinionated... I don’t care what degrees are hanging on their office walls..it’s my body not theirs...
Well the doctor was wrong and the office was right to insist on a diagnosis. However, I still think the driver should be liable for driving although he had at least one incident that we know about that caused him to blackout. Danny’s life could have been spared if the driver would have checked the reason for the blackout before driving.
@@TheRight-handedStranger it was a medical condition he was unaware of and that one time he hit his head on the counter could've been a standalone event not connected. He didn't have a reason before to get it checked on.
@@monkeygirl1894 - It was proven it was connected otherwise he would have been charged for the murder by car. And even though he thought it wasn’t something worth checking, why not making sure to stop driving until he is sure the problem won’t return. People usually mention one incident to minimize his responsibility for not doing anything about it sooner, but it could have happened more than once before the the last one. Other people lives are at stake. If I was related to Daniel I would insist at least his license be provoked.

Yup. Have had several tell me I was just depressed (which, to be fair, I also was) while having major nuerological issues and that there was nothing physically wrong with me. Which couldn't have been further from the truth.
Dr was a b!+ch. Theres too many arrogant doctors that think they know it all and blame it on you when they dont know (all in your head) or dismiss it completely. I was turned away by the ER and sent home to die. Had extreme back pain fever vomiting and migraine. They did a ct scan and thought I had a blood blister on my kidney (I had no trauma) and sent me home it was so bad I had to come back the next day I was out of it and septic at this point turns out it was an infected abcess. If I stayed home I would of died. Spent a week there it was a big enough abcess I had to get it drained. Had an iv stent was required to go every day for a month after to get antibiotic infusion. This seem like it would be easy to diagnose I can only imagine what happens to people with more hidden illnesses

I have to give the investigator in the last story credit for continuing to push to get real answers. The doctor gave him every opportunity to just accept that nothing medically caused the accident.

@45:46 The officer investigating the corn stand collision is good. He realizes the seriousness in charging someone for purposely killing another person and is willing to go the extra mile to make sure that the collision was not due to medical reasons. That is a trait of a good officer.

So glad the investigator pushed the doctor to do a diligent examination. Hate that they tend to presume just because a standard test comes back normal. If it were up to the doctor the young man would have ended up in prison, thankfully the investigator had a sense about what he's seen or heard and experience to push on.

The last story is so sad. That kid Danny looks like a truly loving person. I'm really touched by this one.

I had Mono when I was 13 and EBV as well as CFS...it took years to get better. I'm glad I was too young to drive at the time! Prayers for this family as you never "get over" the death of a child.

At least you got better. My sleepingdisorder may stem from EBV or mono and is not getting better 24y after my first sleepattack. No need to day I don't drive.
Near my house in the country a young man drove off the road in the early morning hours and into a deep ditch and the car was on it's nose almost upside down. The young man was killed instantly. The crash wasn't found until morning when drivers were on their way to work. It turned out that the driver was not drunk, had no alcohol or drugs in his system and that he was fatigued and fell asleep at the wheel on a very dimly lit country road. He drove long distances for his work and probably did not realize how tired he was.
Seems she may have succumbed to the extreme heat....that coupled with humidity and being out in it can make you tired.
The investigator in Mr Morris case is an absolute gem! Such a dedication! He needs all the praise!
Wow I like this officer for his persistence to get the truth and going against the docs. This goes to show to always pursue the truth no matter what any experts says.
My mom has chronic EBV infection after getting it when she was 14. It has triggered fibromyalgia, ankylosing spondylitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. She’s 42 and has been completely disabled by the autoimmune disorders that EBV triggered. She still has EBV in her bloodstream, her body has never been able to fight it off fully. It bugs me when people act like Mono is just a small thing, when in reality, a lot of people end up with lifelong damage because of it. EBV is no joke. EBV is also seen in PANDAS/PANS, specifically PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome, when the immune system attacks the brain causing encephalitis, neurological symptoms like seizures and paralysis, psychiatric symptoms like psychosis, anxiety, OCD)

The experience that officer had and his ability to read people gave him more insight than a Dr who was ready to send an innocent man to prison. God bless that young man and his family, they were and still are hurt so much. Perhaps it's a comfort it wasn't due to someone's selfish behaviour.

I was involved in a rear end crash, we were stopped for the bus and we got rear ended and pushed into a delivery truck we pushed the truck into another truck. We only walked away sore and a few bruises

I think the guy who thinks a civic weighs 40k lbs might have been the drunk driving the red mail van in the 1st clip, or was playing beer pong 2 weeks straight with the 2 guys working with the girl painting.

I think it’s cause no one in that situation was really right & it was a shitshow. However idk how the guy with the red truck admitted to drinking & driving yet didn’t get a dui, same with the other driver.
Very strange, usually the dui wouldn't have a connection, each driver would have to be charged, each driver would have a day in court. No connection. The case of the hit and run with involentary manslaughter would be treated seperately.

Just what is it with people not wearing their damned seat-belt! Yes, it adds a couple extra seconds to your drive, but it's a life saver in the majority of cases.
But all the stories (factual. Some caught on video) when person got killed because of seat belt restricting them to dodge incoming g projectile?

It doesn't even add ANY time to the drive, and if it's cold and you're letting the car warm up it won't even add any time to getting ready for the drive.

Maureen's story is incredibly sad - sounds like she had everything going for her, but just...fell asleep. It's so important to just PULL OVER if you're too drowsy and take a nap in your car, or have someone come get you. It's just not worth the risk.
She was under the influence of drink. That didn't help either

I find there is a real lack of discussion around the condition of the windscreen when driving into the sun. I know in my experience that many people drive with very dirty windscreens even though their commute takes them into the sun for the majority of the drive home. The officer mentioned wearing sunglasses and using the visor but didn't say anything about ensuring the windscreen was clean and clear. Just something to consider.
I haven’t actually watched this video yet, but the title reminded me of how I was briefly on a medication that would sometimes make it very difficult to keep my eyes open while driving. It felt like my eyes kept crossing before they shut. I never felt drowsy or like I was going to actually fall asleep, but it was undoubtedly hazardous. There was nothing I could do to prevent it either.. I tried shifting my focus frequently, blinking more, moving around a lot to keep my blood flowing, playing upbeat music, drinking coffee, staying hydrated, using eye drops, getting plenty of sleep, having my eyes examined, etc.. Nothing worked, and I could barely predict when it would happen. Needless to say, I am not on that medication anymore.
It was an SSRI, for anyone wondering.
Having medications put you on the verge of falling asleep is scary when you're the one driving. It's happened to me too on ssri's. I'm glad you no longer have to worry about falling asleep because of those medicines

The guy driving the Red box truck from the first case, was involved with second case. His truck is sitting outside the moms house at 20:43
Great observation. Looks like the crew was using the truck for the filming sequences and it was brought to the mother’s house with possibly equipment in it. It allows me to think that the first two cases were filmed back to back.
At first I thought that, but in the next few scenes it shows a white house with a red roof, so maybe it's the house not the truck.

How did the guy in the red truck from the first crash not get charged with a DUI?! He admitted to drinking & driving! I get that he wasn’t responsible for the crash/death but he still admitted to driving under the influence.
But it can't be proved - they couldn't have got any blood or breath samples from him until some time later, and he told them he'd been drinking since the crash. You can't convict someone on just a verbal confession.

A teenage girl rear-ended me a few months ago. It wasn't bad but when I got out to check on her she was passed out. She ended up coming to right before EMS and she didn't remember anything. I didn't know what to think but I did believe her. Maybe she was ill and didn't know it.
I have neuro cardiogenic syncope. Diagnosed at 18 when I failed a fully table test. They gave me a pacemaker and I'm all good now. I had been passing out several times a week. Now I haven't passed out in over a year (so happens from time to time but not nearly as bad as it was).
The man fighting for the neurological exam is a damn good cop.

The interesting thing to me is that they even tested the gal who was impaled by tree for anything other than toxicology. I don't work as accident investigator so don't know what is routine. But if they hadn't tested for viruses... they never would've known.. very interesting and good call made by whoever ordered test !
I had 3 cousin that were in an accident back in 1992. All 3 had been drinking on Christmas day. My cousin that was driving had got into a fight with his girlfriend and wanted to race her to her house. They were in an accident the car had rolled 9 times 2 of them were thrown out of the car and the 1 cousin that had died was crushed by the car as it rolled he was pronounced dead at the scene. It was a terrible loss because my aunt and uncle had me tell my grandparents that they lost their grandson the night before.

I feel sorry for that last guy not only does he get scrutinised and accused of killing someone else but discovers at the end of it all he has not 1 but 2 life long medical issues! He then also has to live with the fact that he killed someone 😥

Alot of these episodes involve someone being ejected, just wear your seatbelts people, it takes less than a second and will literally save your life, don't be stupid.
No one held responsible for the first case? That makes my blood boil. Although he should have been wearing a seat belt, the two people driving were drunk.

Finally, a case in which the L.E. official does a much better job than the doctor! Doctors need to do better for their patients-stop thinking just about the bottom line and running them through like cattle!
I'm just super glad that an innocent individual wasn't held criminally responsible, thus possibly ruining his whole life!
However, this case was still certainly heartbreaking. It's too bad that it took the loss of one innocent young man's life who was just doing his job in order for another to discover an undiagnosed medical condition.
That is one thing bad about having cruise control on, you can fall asleep and just run off or into something without any sign of breaking.
Did they question the man in the hospital where he was heading to and from. I would think that would help since they knew what direction the truck was going.

Wow! They had a trial and the jury found him not guilty! Amazing! But for the fact he was drinking and loss control of his car, his friend would have no been alive. Even if the other guy was drinking, bottom line, he didn’t cause the accident.

I've actually fallen asleep twice at the wheel. First time I did that, I was on a curve of an onramp to a state freeway. This was actually during construction of the expressway. It was late. I briefly fell asleep, and didn't feel my car veer to the left side concrete barrier. I hear a loud bang, and I snap awake. I found a spot to get out, and the check the damage. Amazingly, it had barely any damage done to it, with a couple scrapes on the rim, and a couple tears on the tire. Second time happened at the same time of night, on the same area. However, I was actually in my dad's car. Same scenario, I got out to check the damage. It appeared to have the same damage. However, the next morning, my dad drove the car, and felt something wrong. I apparently had dislocated a part of the ball bearings. Even then, he never knew what happened.
I sure am glad I watched this episode; my granddaughter has had infectious mono, and once you have it, it may get better but it doesn't go away. Since it's in her system, she can have it again.
I have neuro orthostatic hypotension and haven't driven since being diagnosed.

I know exactly what happened to the young girl who ran off the road for apparently no reason. It happened to me . It had been really hot for the previous few days and I was working outside. This made me dehydrated and unaware of how badly. I drank a single glass of cold beer and within 15 minutes ,I passed out. It is not the only time I have had proper hydration issues through the years but it was the first. That is why I remember it so well.
I know exactly too. I got dehydration from very hot summer while driving a motorcycle. I feel dizzy, the world spinning non-stop for 15 minutes long. Thank God I still can stop in the sideways, drank water a lot and prevent much more dangerous accidents
Strobe type lighting can bring on a schizophrenic episode. Driving down a treelined road on a sunny day could create that effect from sunlight to shade and back again.
Yes, I have this problem. I have to close my eyes tightly. I cannot drive during certain times of the day.
The driver has to thankful to God that the officer had medical background.
I was in a Honda Civic, it was a crowded roadway. Just ahead of me was a large dump truck, stopped in my lane. A female police officer was writing a ticket for the vehicle in front of the truck. There was no room to get around the truck. All of a sudden I was rear ended by a white van. The van hit me with such force I was pushed into the back of the truck. Whoever was driving the white van noticed his chance, pulled around me, the truck and the car ahead. I got out and yelled at the police officer to chase that hit and run. She paid no attention to me, just kept writing her ticket. My car was badly damaged. Both front and rear were collapsed. There was no damage to the dump truck. Never the less, the truck driver and I exchanged information and I was able to limp away with my front fender was striking the tire, making a grinding sound.
Wow, what an amazing police officer.

Sad I too suffer from mental illness, but I no longer hear voices, hate or want to get even even with people.
It all started with me blessing people,, then Jesus came into my life. I stopped using my meds( something I would never think of doing) but God made me feel so good.
Some absolutely wonderful things started happening , with some not so good( mainly doing things of a slightly embarrassing nature, that most people who do these acts would not be embarrassed about,)
After about a year, off my meds, I felt like I was physically dying from extreme exercise and extremely limited sleep. I was manic the whole time!
I quickly returned to my meds, and I am still on them. I am basically a new person! I tend to love people more, It is beautiful not to have conversations in my head with hundreds of people, some telling me to harm others
, My brain is at peace now thanks to God!
I view it as a miracle!

In the first one, how is the truck driver not considered at fault? You're required to keep a safe stopping distance from the vehicle in front of you, and if you hit someone who slams on the breaks or spins out in front of you, that's your fault.

Mr. Higgins looked like he was “very drunk” even when speaking to law enforcement….and he fled the scene of the accident! And the other driver involved in this accident was also under the influence of alcohol. Very sad that his friend died for not wearing a seatbelt. Very tragic indeed. Wow! And this man was not found guilty or responsible for the accident whatsoever. Incredible just incredible. SMH 🤦♀️. Where is the justice for the deceased??? Unbelievable jury decision in this case, just unbelievable. What the hell were they thinking? Makes me sick and angry 😡

Work construction from 4-5am to 5-6pm and see how likely sleep can play into the scenario at 6pm.
While I am glad that the investigator in the last story went the extra mile, I sure hope the guy who hit the kid isn’t allowed to drive anymore with his medical condition (the blood pressure one)
This was such an interesting episode! There are so many other things I should have been doing but I sat and watched the entire thing. I wonder if the driver (Mr. Morris) ended up losing his license due to his diagnosis? I was hoping they might say something about that.

I would think that the truck driver was partially responsible and the driver with the friend, was partially responsible. Not 100% one or the other.

I was in a horrible accident with my seat belt on - the impact was so severe that I was ejected from the vehicle - my neck was bruised where I was ripped from the seatbelt. So unfortunately the seatbelt failed for me.
This guy should have been found guilty for his alcohol level. My 16 year old niece was killed by a drunk driver. He got 4 months for good behavior. The man murdered my niece by drinking anyone that kills should be sent to jail on murder. You never expect it to happen to someone in your family.
Am just upset and sad and unhappy that all these important people are dying and am just sad all these people are losing there loved ones including me.
I fell asleep driving before I hit a pole a tree in the fence I don’t know what happened I don’t remember where I crashed I didn’t remember nothing All I remember was people yelling get out the car it’s going to start on fire I was all confused all I’m gonna say is if you’re tired don’t ever get behind the wheel because it can happen to you I didn’t think it could but it happened to me
april love HTD4life&ROLOFAM I did the same, fell asleep at the wheel when I was 22. Totaled my car, never drove tired again.

how is he not using it properly? It's only a demo, but you set it in whatever position is neccesary to prevent you from being dazzled by the sun. Please explain what would have been correct, in your informed opinion.
@@johnarmstrong7729 well in driving school we were taught to push it back toward the windshield, not have it up and down, which does obstruct your vision of the road a bit.
@@xstarkidx8064 yes your correct especially for tall people. I have to push it all the way to the windscreen to see properly.

In the last story the Dr.'s educated arrogance could have ruined that guy. Thankfully the officer persisted. We had an EMT stand up to an emergency Dr.(yelled at him) and save our son's life.
I used to haul newspapers at night. For 24 hrs. At one time I drove 300 miles a night. I've hit 17 deer and totaled a few vehicles.
One night I got out late and was hurrying to catch up. I drove about 15 miles when I came upon a van tipped over in the middle of the four lane highway. It was in the west bound lanes and I was heading East. I could have easily just kept going but something told me this was no minor accident. I turned around to check it out. My Metro was packed to the roof with Newspapers and I couldn't find my flashlight. As I walked up to the van I got an Erie feeling. The headlights were on and the radio was playing. It was pitch dark and the highway was desolate. I peered in through the windshield but couldn't see inside. I went back to my car to search for the flashlight. Couldn't find it anywhere. Then I noticed a bloody rag in the middle of the highway. It was located underneath the van if it wasn't on its side. Does that make sense?
My first thought was that the driver was injured and took off on foot or was given a lift. I had to get going but decided to call 911 and report what I saw. They dispatched a deputy right away.
When he arrived he literally ran up to the van and looked inside with a big Maglite. I was right behind the deputy and he quickly pushed me away. "Its a good thing you couldn't find your flashlight", he remarked. I later found out the driver was decapitated by being partially ejected and the heavy van crushed him as it slid down the highway. It was a gruesome scene.
But something amazing happened about a month later. I began to see skid marks in the exact area of the accident. Then I remembered years ago before my wife passed away that we lived only a couple of miles away from the exact spot. Once in the middle of the night a co worker of my wife's came pounding at our door needing help. She had hit a deer and had disabled her van.
In the years since then, I had learned this highway like the back of my hand. And if there ever was an "expert" when it come to hitting deer it was me.
Thats when I put it together. After I had filed the report with the trooper. But I didn't figure it out right away. Then I realized why God had helped me to figure it out. That night I called the man's wife and told her what had happened. Her husband had swerved to miss a deer and was partially ejected. The final piece to the puzzle had been "WHY DID HE SWERVE" ?. I felt strange calling his wife to tell her this but I thought I would want to know if I were in her position.
I think I learned a few things from this.But the greatest lesson is that we need to be patient and the whole picture will emerge.
