Everything went smooth. I upgraded my boot drive to from a 512 gb to 2 tb. I also replaced my sata 1 tb drive with a 4 tb ssd. Also put in 64 gb ram. With the whole system running good, there's just no sound. I've read lots of posts about people with no sound after cloning. It says the sound is working, but no sound at all. Any suggestions? I don't really want to take out the drive & put the original back in by opening the laptop again.

As a 35 year Computer expert, I must say this is one of the better videos I've come across. It covers most everything you need to know. Usually these videos miss something, but this one covers a lot of little details.
@@Supahfilm I just commented, I cloned my ~128GB C drive from a 500GB NVMe to a 1TB NVMe, followed this video as it happened and I’ve been using it for a couple hours with no problems
This is by far the easiest and well explained video I have seen in awhile, I was really nervous about cloning my existing NVME to my new one, but this made it so simple and not scary. Thank you so much Charlie!
An absolutely fab tutorial has everything you need to know to clone an NVME. I will be using this to do mine tomorrow when my eyes are fresh. Thank you.
Now THIS is what I call a tutorial! From beginning to end, ALL the steps were concise, straightforward and easy as freak to follow. Thank you so, so much for this video!
If you are cloning to a larger SSD, do not forget to extend the larger SSD’s volume before the cloning process on Reflect. You cannot extend it after the cloning process because it will try to convert it to Dynamic instead of Basic, and then use the remaining storage for “Simple Volume”. After selecting the SSD and deleting the partition, click next but then go back. Left click main partition and make sure it fills the entire space.
You sir, are a blessing. I was initially dreading this action. But thanks to your well methodical explanation I managed to change over from a 500gb to a 1 to ssd. I do had to use the partition program but that was like 5 min worth of time. Thank you again!
Thanks for the video, very helpful. A tip to add: make sure that the unallocated space on the target drive is listed immediately to the right of the C: drive clone on the target drive. Otherwise when you go to Disk Management later and try to rightclick>extend volume, it wont let you extend volume. So in the Clone window of Macrium Reflect you can re-order the partitions, if needed, on the target drive so that the unallocated space is immediately right of C: There is a button called Layout with a wrench icon, or click on a partition and use the Float Left or Float Right buttons. A partition can only be floated left or right if there is empty space next to it. Also, a side note: I got an error several times before I realized that I had to use my usb c port that is labeled as Thunderbolt rather than the other ports (all usb c) which I think are more for display. The cloning process would fail part-way through on those other ports
So I’m not able to extend the drive (I suspect because of the it not being immediately to the right as you mentioned). So what is the fix? Have to wipe the drive and start over?
@@singgreekandhebrew hi I faced the same problem as well and I successfully solve it by using mini tool partition wizard. It allow u to extend c drive even though the unallocated space is not beside of c. Hope this is helpful.
Finally, someone who directly answers all my questions despite how specific they are bc other sources simply just don't explain enough or don't explain the right thing. I've been struggling all day for a easy to understand yet comprehensive walkthrough and you really just knocked the ball out of the park and into the next continent, thank you so much!!!!!!!
A gem of a video! Clear, concise and detailed. I am literally right now building a new system and was wondering what to do with my old 256Gb nvme drive - now it's going to be a super fast external - thank you!
You have explained it very well. Not many people have the ability to narrate in such a smooth way. Also you pointed out the issue with the Orico screw interfering with heat dissipation -- which also shows attention to detail. Wishing you good luck with TH-cam success!
@@TechGuyCharlie i bought a new nvme ssd the original one i had was 128 gb the one i bought is 1 tb do ill be able to put the memory from the original to the new one right? same process everything?
This is the second time I have cloned an SSD to another SSD. First time was a nightmare. Following this guide made it a breeze, all finished in under two hours. Excellent guide!!!
The explaination is so easy to follow and to the point! I upgraded my SSD from 500 GB to 1 TB following your tutorial and it works like a charm. I was also able to repurpose my old SSD using the enclosure and it works perfectly. I was a bit worried that the bitlocker will not let me wipe the old SSD but the diskpart method actually worked! Thank you so much for this video saved me countless hours of running around the internet!
I have just done mine a few days ago using this video as a guide. Macrium does a free trial thing for 30 days now instead of a completely free version, did you have any issues with your hard drive after 30 days or something? I am worried if they installed a lock or something that stops my hard drive from working unless I pay for the software.
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to clone my old SSD perfectly from 128GB to 512GB and it really works so well. It's my first time doing this kind of thing and I was able to do it easily because of this guide. Now I've got more space for my Drive C, and I've got plenty of room for video games. Once again, thank you so much!
Thank you! This is a very nice tutorial. I haven't tried cloning a hard drive since I had an IDE drive and Norton Ghost. Unfortunately, your instructions didn't cover everything I encountered so I'm going to list my issues in case someone else may find them helpful. I'm using an HP Spectre X360 running Windows 11 Pro. I purcahsed a 2TB NVMe drive, upgrading from a 500GB NVMe, and I had purchased a different external NVMe drive (toolless) enclosure. 1. My research showed I should disable BitLocker before I attempt to clone the drive. Done. However, I did NOT disable McAfee or Malwarebytes. 2. The cloning process failed a few times and I finally figured out it was due to power settings. I have my power settings to "always on" but the screen shuts off after 15 minutes. I found a setting that also shuts off power to the USB ports when the screen turns off. I had to disable that setting. 3. After installing the cloned drive, it too, a handful of boots to get it to start properly. First, it seemed that maybe something wasn't connected properly because the power light flashed on then off. After "reconnecting" the HD and the power to the MB, It powered on but gave me an error about the boot device not being available. 2 more boots and the System Repair prompt appeared. I chose the option to let the system repair the boot drive but it said it failed. I rebooted again and IT WORKED! Every subsequent boot has been fine. 4. I cannot extend the partition. The drive has the following partitions, in this order: an EFI system partition, the Windows/C drive, a Recovery partition, then the unallocated space. I couldn't extend the C drive because the recovery partition is in the way. I resolved the issue by changing the unallocated space into a drive letter partition, then moved my file storage to it. After all that, I got what I needed, but I did have to spend time making sure all my programs worked because any file references to my "file storage folder" was moved to the D drive. Now my C and D partitions have PLENTY of empty space, and it seems to be working well. Finally, I'm going to re-enable BitLocker. Thank you again for the comprehensive tutorial!
I think your demo is the best I've seen. You never skipped any of the process and all was well explained, very professional indeed. I really enjoyed watching it. Excellent.
I got redirected to this video about upgrading an HP gaming laptop and it was extremely helpful. You made everything very simple to follow. I did not use the same enclosure, but I found a similar product and now, I've pretty much tripled the space on my computer. Really appreciate it!
I need to upgrade the SSD in my PC, so I have been looking in advance for clone solutions on TH-cam and this is by far the best video I have found. I am fairly sure my machine has a SATA SSD, but I expect the process is exactly the same. Thanks for making this video.
Best instructional on TH-cam. Quick and easy setup for me. I appreciate your pace and walking through every single step as you walk through it. Excellent stuff!
Really good walkthrough. I just replaced my SSD for a 1 TB and followed your steps. At the end I couldn’t extend the partitions because the 'extend' option was disabled, but I figured it out after some research. Thank you!
@@TechGuyCharlie Yes, I had a 10mb partition in between the c:windows and the unallocated partition, therefore it didn’t let me extend to the unallocated one. I used an assistant and solved the problem. Thanks again!
@@35mmfilmroll38 l had the same issue. What was your work around please sir? @Tech Guy Charlie what did you do to move the 900MB between C and the unallocated position? My extend partition is greyed out. Thanks in advance. Love the tutorial. I tried several. This is only one that worked.
for anyone wanting to do this on macrium 8 reflect free, all u gotta do is select all the partitions in the top disk, then press the 'copy partitions' button (dont drag them!!), then press 'shrink/extend to fit target disk' or something, and it'll automatically extend your C drive disk to max. if it doesnt work you can manually extend it by dragging the first 3 partitions, then right clicking the third partition (the C drive for me, also make sure ur recovery partition/any other partitions aren't located to the right of it), click 'partition size and layout', then you should see 2 lines where you can adjust the blue rectangle left and right. move the top one (the one next to the 'size' numbers) all the way to the end and you should see ur partition expand all the way, then press ok
The newly cloned SSD might not boot. It's important to use Macrium Reflect to create a rescue disk (USB or CD/DVD) and have it available before beginning the cloning process. Once the cloning step has been completed, ensure that the rescue disk is inserted and then restart the computer. Make the computer go to the BIOS boot menu. (On Dell computers, begin tapping the F12 key as soon as the Dell logo appears.) Select the rescue disk as the boot disk. Once Macrium opens from the rescue disk, select "Fix Windows book problems" from the menu at the left. Then just click Next and Finish as they appear. This will ensure that the newly cloned SSD will boot correctly. Close the app when Macrium has finished this step. The computer will reboot. Finally, shut the computer down. Then swap the old SSD for the new SSD. Your computer should be ready to run.
Exactly. Happened to me when I followed the video. Everything went good, all nicely cloned. Then I swapped the drive physically, but it continued booting on the old one. I changed the booting order in the BIOS, it booted fine. I erased the old drive and... didn't boot again. I tried to fix it in command line with a rescue disk: it was trying to boot in the wrong partition: I chose the proper one but it would still say that no OS was found. Tried to fix it anyhow and no luck (I didn't try what you explain, as in panic I didn't read your comment in time). Long story short: I luckily managed to copy the data to the old drive (in command line) and ended up reinstalling Windows. I was lucky, but you must really keep in mind that this may go wrong. I would suggest to manually backup your stuff and just make a clean Windows installation: honestly speaking, in my case, Windows runs faster now and some audio / driver issues were fixed by reinstalling everything. Windows also takes like 5' to install in these new faster drives, so I would say it's easier, safer, and faster. P.S.: Nevertheless, the video is really well done, very well explained. All the steps are clear and easy to follow.
Thank you for this in depth tutorial, I was actually hesitating on buying an Nvme enclosure but soon realized that through that enclosure i can use the old nvme ssd as an external drive. Thanks again 😁
Awesome tutorial, quick question. Im at the extend volume part and it wont give me the option to extend volume. It only says shrink volume is available. Any thoughts? I installed a 1 TB samsung 970 evo plus m.2 nvme
This video was very complete and helped me a lot. I went from a 500 to a 2 TB using an external SSK enclosure. However, two things did throw me that wasn't touched on in your video: 1) my PC didn't see my new NVME when it was in the SSK no matter what I did, whether setting that USB to HD in BIOS, or using different windows utilities like Device Manager, Disk Mgmt. Fortunately my laptop saw it and I could format the NVME there. 2) the process took 24+ hours, despite me excluding a 200MB partition form the 500MB. The PC USB port was a 3.1 and the SSK is a 3.2, but I was shocked it took that long. All's well that ends well though. Thanks.
Extremely well explained and well-articulated! Great job, Charlie! I'll give this a try on my replacement Dell 7750 laptop that came pre-installed with only 256GB nVMe Windows 10 boot drive. I have 4 nVMe slots, with 3 slots occupied (boot drive 256GB, 2nd and 3rd slots with 512GB each). I will use the 4th free slot to install a new 1TB nVMe to clone my 256GB, so will not need to purchase the nVMe enclosure. Thank you!
Excellent instructional video. So many "instructional" videos on TH-cam skip steps, are unclear, rushed, or non-sense. This video did none of those things. Thank you.
I know this is 2 years old, but I just wanted to say thanks for the video. I used your tips and software choice to clone my laptop from a 500GB to 2TB drive and it worked perfectly!
With fingers crossed, I'm about to follow your tutorial. I ordered a larger 2tb NVMe M.2 SSD only to find that I had just one M.2 slot. My specs said I could add multiple SSD drives, and I did not fully check the motherboard before ordering. So I plan to install the larger drive and use the old ssd as an external drive in the enclosure.
This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen. Going through each step with clear explanations. Loved the little extra bits of information towards the end. Thank you
Glad the video was helpful, by the way I have a newer video on this same topic, which is slightly more streamlined, you wont have to go through the disk management thing. th-cam.com/video/uE9xMNidGEo/w-d-xo.html

Best tutorial video I have ever watched on cloning an SSD most don't show how to reset and use the old SSD as external. And your step by step tutorial is as always amazing, not letting out a single step. Great video as always❤️
This is quite literally the proper way to do it, although I missed a step, sometimes you wont be able to extend volume because a recovery partition is in its way, made a separate video about that lol. and you are being too kind! ❤️
Wow! I purchased a different brand of software to clone my nvme SSD and couldn't complete the clone because that particular software kept giving me an error message after 70% completion. After the 4th error, I gave up on it, researched in Google and found Tech Guy Charlie's video. I tried the Macrium software and since it was already late last night, I let it run while I was asleep. I woke up and the cloning was completed without an error. Thank you TCG for sharing and creating this video for everybody!🙏👍🙋♂️
This is not a tutorial... This is THE tutorial! Great job mate. Just a note that happened to me. When I tried to extend the volume, this option was greyed and not available. This was because I had a recovery partition between the new C: and the not allocated space. This combination not allows the windows tool to extend the volume, as it can be only done if the partition are adjacent. I followed a Microsoft guide using AOMEI disk partition manager and everything worked like a charm.
I know this is an old video but I am back to use it again for my daughter's computer. You are to the point, detailed and very clear with your information. thank you for the great content!
I am speechless! Tech Guy Charlie .... THANK YOU! I followed your instructions exactly and the upgrade went PERFECTLY. When I was finished cloning and replaced the SSD in my computer, I ran into the grayed out "extend volume" issue. I was just about to leave a comment hoping you would see it so I could get some help. Well, you already took care of it by providing another link with additional instructions. I had 3 recovery partitions. I deleted each one and now can I see the full storage space of the new SSD when I look at This PC. Your instructions were super easy to follow. You went at a great pace and didn't speak so technical. I've now subscribed to your page. I also want to upgrade my internal HDD for an SSD but need to research how to clone that. Do I even need to clone it? I use that second internal drive to store photos, music files, documents and downloads. All of that is backed up onto an external hard drive. My issue is that there is only one power supply in my Dell Inspiron 3670. Could I just remove the old HDD, drop in a new SSD and copy my files onto it from the external backup drive? Would I need to somehow initialize the new SSD drive? I'm going to search your videos to see if you've already made a tutorial on this. Again, I can't thank you enough!!!!! -Cathy
Thank you, Cathy! You have no idea how much your comment means to me. ❤️ And, If your computer doesn't have a 2nd power connector, just replace the old HDD with a new SSD, you will need to initialize it and it will work fine. As for copying files, just drag and drop them from your backup external drive onto the new drive, you can also clone the HDD onto the SSD, but copying and pasting from an external drive seems faster.
Thanks for a clear and accurate tutorial! I went from a crowded 512gb to a roomy 2tb in just a few hours, and most of that was watching Macrium work. Easy!
Just wanted to thank you for this extremely helpful video. I purchased a new m.2 drive but had no idea how to transfer my data from the old one to the new one. Your instructions were so easy to understand. I can't thank you enough. :)
I'm no computer whizz but will give most tasks a go. This video i can can highly recommend. I updated my Asus Zenbook 256 GB HD to an SSD ITB. I did watch the video recommending the use of a HD Enclosure so waited till that arrived. Followed the instructions and presto my Zenbooks working like new. Cost was HD 1TB $35 AUD and the enclosure an Orico M.2 NVme USB C for $30 AUD from Amazon. I expect i would have paid around $80 + all the bits if I had taken it in to a PC centre. Thanks Charlie!!
This totally worked for me...one thing I had was the recovery partition in the way of the extension. I had to use diskpart to get rid of the recovery partition and then it worked as demonstrated here. Great video!!
This is the best computer video I have ever seen. You manage too cover everything and doesn’t talk in circle like most computer video’s on yt. Thanks for help with my problem. You have earned a new subscriber from me👍
Very well done - step by step. If only other "how to" videos were as easy to follow as yours ! The only thing I would suggest is that as your viewers have downloaded Macrium Reflect for the cloning I would suggest first making an image to another external drive with Macrium before re-formatting the old drive. If you have any issues with the new drive you will still have your old image to re-install from.
Its actually a really good idea, in fact, I have done exactly that! I always keep a backup image of the C drive on an large external drive just in case something goes wrong.
I wanted to upgrade my SSD, but I'm not sure how. I'm thinking using the enclosure and yes I was right. Glad I found your tutorial. Thanks a lot! I'm gonna try this out.
This is a *_VERY GOOD VIDEO_* on the process of cloning from one *_SSD to another SSD._* What I liked was how you took the *_TIME_* to go into the *_FINER DETAILS_* of the cloning process. I will watch your updated video. Thank You for producing these *_VIDEOS!!!_*
Hey, your comment means a LOT! Thank you! I tried my best to make the process as simple as possible. By the way I have an updated tutorial on the channel, I've streamlined the process even further.
Just leave your OS on the old drive as a backup. I also recommend putting your documents ( and music, videos etc. ) on a seperate partition. If you ever have to reinstall your OS you won't have to backup those files as they are on another partition. You can also install a Linux distribution on your external drive. Or ChromeOS. Relatively small compared to Windows. 50 Gb should be enough. Make the rest of the drive an NTFS partition. You can then select your bootmedium in the BIOS ( internal disk or USB Device ). Have fun with exploring something new. Good tutoral.Thank you for posting it. Tip for future video: you can recommend the usage of a seperate partition for 'my documents' etc. and explain how users can do that.
That is actually a good idea, I have done this exact same thing on my desktop PC, although important documents and files are on a separate drive, the concept is same as what you've suggested, makes it very easy to re-install windows. I might cover this topic in future video.
I have a problem where u could help me out. So i did everything exactly as in zhe video but it didnt let me boot windows. So theres the unallocated partition and the cloned partition. Windows didnt boot so i used a bootstick to install windows on the unallocated space since i thought theyre connected. Now everything worked but my windows doesnt have any data on it since its in the seperate partition. Is there any way to get my data back or retrieve the data from the cloned partition since the data itself is still there just not loaded with windows
If you haven’t upgraded your memory and put in a fast ssd already do it now. My inspiron used to take minutes to log in and was painfully slow to use on any website- now it boots up in less than five seconds and all delays are gone. I should’ve done this upgrade two years ago. I barely used my laptop for the last nine months. Bonus is that the battery now lasts twice as long! Thanks for the video!
I’ve been kinda hesitant about upgrading my ssd, glad I came across this video. I shouldn’t of cheaped out when I bought my laptop, should of just went with the 2TB ssd right off the rip. I’ve done upgraded my ram, time to update my ssd. Nice video bud.
thank for your guidance i was able to clone the SSDs successfully, I'm using Dell laptop and after I installed the new cloned SSD to the laptop, it tried to boot into Diagnosis repair but thankfully after several restarts, it can boot into Windows without loosing data.
With this step by step guide you prevented a marital spat my friend.... thank you ..when we started the cloning process the cable was loose in our usb and it said CLONE FAILED" in bright red letters ..so we rewound the video and started from scratch we had to confirm the data erasure....
I had trouble because I had two sata drives attached and the msi motherboard would only look for a boot manager in the sata drives first. I unplugged the other drives, it booted and I saved that setup in the bios. Then plugged in the other two drives. Great tutorial
This was mazing - after trawling the internet and being led down rabbit holes that led to "free" software that didn't work this was actually made by a human being who understands his audience - thank you.
So happy I found your tutorial! I receive my first new computer in 9 years this Saturday, and already have 2x 2T drives to swap out with the 1T that it comes with! Having the 1TB to use as an external drive gives me an easy way to store and transfer video files from my phone to the new computer for editing. Love it! Thank you so much! SUBSCRIBED!
Round 1: What is left unsaid was dealing with Bitlocker encrypted drives. I was certainly able to clone the 1Tb original SSD (90% full) to a new 2Tb SSD without any difficulty using the same Orico drive enclosure and a new HP FX900 Pro SSD with Macrium Reflect v8 -- which now includes a setting that will allow you to seamlessly "expand" the unused space in a larger SSD when cloning the smaller SSD. It took just over 90 minutes using a USB 2.0 port. The new 2Tb drive showed the full available space along with the three small cloned partitions intact And when I opened up my laptop and swapped out the two SSD boards, then put it all back together, the laptop booted right up! ** But . . . my 1Tb internal (D:) HDD (where nearly all of my documents and most programs are installed -- but backed up to Carbonite) was not accessible thanks to Bitlocker encryption -- and, of course, I had no idea where to find my encryption key. And after installing the old 1Tb SSD in the Orico enclosure, thinking maybe I could get to the key, I was also greeted with an inaccessible F: (USB) disk drive (which has a different key). As I was about to start the Macrium cloning process, Macrium or Bitlocker alerted me to the fact that the new clone would not be encrypted -- no big deal -- but I never stopped to think that the HDD which was not being swapped out would not be accessible. Same with the old SSD. There is nothing in this Tech Guy Charlie's video (which is excellent otherwise) or the Macrium Reflect v8 video posted by Macrium (which is also excellent), that discusses how to deal with this serious concern (but Macrium has turned off comments to its video, so I cannot post about this matter there). Round 2: Back to Square One . . . Had to open up the laptop again, remove the new 2Tb SSD, reinstall the old 1Tb SSD, and recovered the Bitlocker keys. Not wanting to "suspend" encryption only to discover after swapping out the SSDs again a new experience involving some other roadblock, I chose instead to decrypt both the 1Tb SSD and the 1Tb HDD. This process is going to take several hours (it's been running about an hour now and the SSD shows 29% complete, as I type this comment -- 7-26-22 at 1845 PDT -- and I'm sure the HDD will still be decrypting when the SSD is finished) I will return to this post when the entire process is finished and post an update. Round 3: SSD decryption took 3 hours. The D; drive with much lower read/write speed is still in the decryption process at 2130 PDT. Round 4: D: drive decryption completed sometime between midnight and 3am. Opened up the laptop one more time, swapped out the SSDs, buttoned everything back together and . . . voila! Everything working as it should with a new 2Tb SSD as the operating system drive. D: drive fully accessible. 100% happy camper now.
Thank you for sharing. I almost clone to a new ssd without decrypting. I swear i came across a short video about decrypting your bit locker before cloning but wasnt sure if i really need to. Your comment should be right at the top for everyone to see.
Just to let you know, your introduction was helpful. Thanks! I will save your video for later, as I'm going to replace my 2TB NVMe SSD with a new 4TB one. Thanks again for your most useful video.
Fabulous how-to guide, works exactly as you describe. One small issue to add, is if you have an encrypted drive. I postponed encryption for the cloning and it seems to have worked perfectly. Thanks for a very decent tutorial.
On target ssd, click delete partition, then click 'copy partitions' and exact partitions.. Make sure that extra storage in grey is exactly to the right of C:'s copy. If something else is right, click the thing in the way, then select 'float right or float left'
Thank you so much! This tutorial is perfect and it all worked perfectly! I used it to clone a 460GB regular SSD to a 960GB SSD (non NVMe, both of them), using an external SATA to USB port. Took a few hours (around 4 hours) to copy 450GBs of data but it`s all here and I`m now enjoying a breezy 400 more GBs of space! =)

An absolutely fab tutorial has everything you need to know to clone an NVME. I will be using this to do mine tomorrow when my eyes are fresh. Thank you.
Charley, Thank You for all you do. You have saved my bacon numerous times. This is but one of them. Cheers!
Thank you!! This means a lot! 😊😊
@@TechGuyCharlie *My pleasure.*
Now THIS is what I call a tutorial! From beginning to end, ALL the steps were concise, straightforward and easy as freak to follow. Thank you so, so much for this video!
Super glad the video was helpful. 😊
Left click main partition and make sure it fills the entire space.
but?

You sir, are a blessing. I was initially dreading this action. But thanks to your well methodical explanation I managed to change over from a 500gb to a 1 to ssd. I do had to use the partition program but that was like 5 min worth of time. Thank you again!
That is so nice to hear!! Thank you! 😊 glad the video was helpful.
This was the only suitable tutorial I could find on TH-cam - still works in 2023! Thank you.
Thanks for the video, very helpful. A tip to add: make sure that the unallocated space on the target drive is listed immediately to the right of the C: drive clone on the target drive. Otherwise when you go to Disk Management later and try to rightclick>extend volume, it wont let you extend volume. So in the Clone window of Macrium Reflect you can re-order the partitions, if needed, on the target drive so that the unallocated space is immediately right of C:
There is a button called Layout with a wrench icon, or click on a partition and use the Float Left or Float Right buttons. A partition can only be floated left or right if there is empty space next to it.
Also, a side note: I got an error several times before I realized that I had to use my usb c port that is labeled as Thunderbolt rather than the other ports (all usb c) which I think are more for display. The cloning process would fail part-way through on those other ports
wish I saw this comment before I cloned
do you mean place the new ssd by the one you are cloning right?
So I’m not able to extend the drive (I suspect because of the it not being immediately to the right as you mentioned). So what is the fix? Have to wipe the drive and start over?
@@singgreekandhebrew hi I faced the same problem as well and I successfully solve it by using mini tool partition wizard. It allow u to extend c drive even though the unallocated space is not beside of c. Hope this is helpful.

Great work. Very helpful.
Thank you Darrin!! Much appreciated! 😊
Thank you, I am glad the video was helpful. 😊
Thank you!! This means a lot and I will be doing an updated version of this video very soon, streamlined and clarifed a few things 😊
The trial version of Macrium allowed you to clone to the new NVME SSD?
@@TechGuyCharlie i bought a new nvme ssd the original one i had was 128 gb the one i bought is 1 tb do ill be able to put the memory from the original to the new one right? same process everything?
This is the second time I have cloned an SSD to another SSD. First time was a nightmare. Following this guide made it a breeze, all finished in under two hours. Excellent guide!!!
Did you have to reinstall windows or any programs at all?
@@88keys74 No. This makes an exact clone of your old hard drive. So it's like you are just putting the old one back in but with extra space.
How did you download Reflect 7? because right now the website shows Reflect 8 only.
I have just done mine a few days ago using this video as a guide. Macrium does a free trial thing for 30 days now instead of a completely free version, did you have any issues with your hard drive after 30 days or something? I am worried if they installed a lock or something that stops my hard drive from working unless I pay for the software.
Thanks!
Thank you Robert, this means a lot!
I am really glad to hear that! 😊
Excellent.
As Ted said, I've been doing this since MS-DOS days circa 1989-1990 and this is one of the better video's I've seen in a while...Kudos!
Thank you! 😊
Thank you!! I am so glad the video was helpful!
I went through about 10 videos. Finally found one that explains everything perfectly and covers all potential questions. Well done!
Really good walkthrough. I just replaced my SSD for a 1 TB and followed your steps. At the end I couldn’t extend the partitions because the 'extend' option was disabled, but I figured it out after some research. Thank you!
Ah, yes the button gets disabled in some rare cases, to fix that I unusually use aomei partition assistant. But I am glad the video was helpful 😊
This video helped me when changing my old ssd drive and it is highly detailed description of the process. Thank You.
Wow! This was by far the most comprehensive & concise step by step guide for cloning and even repurposing the old drives. THANK YOU!! 🙏🏾
This is without a doubt one of the best videos on TH-cam re: SSD upgrades
Your instructions are EXCEPTIONAL. Not everyone gives the right amount of details and steps the way you did. Thanks!!
for anyone wanting to do this on macrium 8 reflect free, all u gotta do is select all the partitions in the top disk, then press the 'copy partitions' button (dont drag them!!), then press 'shrink/extend to fit target disk' or something, and it'll automatically extend your C drive disk to max.
if it doesnt work you can manually extend it by dragging the first 3 partitions, then right clicking the third partition (the C drive for me, also make sure ur recovery partition/any other partitions aren't located to the right of it), click 'partition size and layout', then you should see 2 lines where you can adjust the blue rectangle left and right. move the top one (the one next to the 'size' numbers) all the way to the end and you should see ur partition expand all the way, then press ok
Five-star quality tutorial right here! I'm actually looking forward to upgrading my laptop's ssd now. Thank you for your work sir.
Excellent, clear, straightforward explanations without unnecessary jabbering. Other TH-camrs should do this.
A very comprehensive tutorial video. Thank you for making the cloning process so much easier and covering everything needed.
Glad you found the video to be helpful. 😊
Thanks for the guide. I have replaced my old 250gb M2 SSD with a 1TB M2 SSD. Thanks to your video I was able to clone all my data. Love you
Awesome tutorial, quick question.
Thank you.
I am glad the video was helpful 😊
Really appreciate this tutorial, I initially thought this was going to be a super impossible task but you made it very easy. Thanks alot!!
I know this is 2 years old, but I just wanted to say thanks for the video. I used your tips and software choice to clone my laptop from a 500GB to 2TB drive and it worked perfectly!
Very nicely demonstrated. Made a rather complex process look so simple and easy to understand. Covered every detail necessary. Kudos!!! With thanks.
Glad it was helpful! 😊
This video was beautiful, thank you so much for making the process so clear and understandable

Another satisfied customer. Keep up the -good- *great* work!
And, If your computer doesn't have a 2nd power connector, just replace the old HDD with a new SSD, you will need to initialize it and it will work fine. As for copying files, just drag and drop them from your backup external drive onto the new drive, you can also clone the HDD onto the SSD, but copying and pasting from an external drive seems faster.

This is by far the best tutorial for cloning drives. Clear and direct to the point. Good job!

Thanks for the video!

thank for your guidance i was able to clone the SSDs successfully, I'm using Dell laptop and after I installed the new cloned SSD to the laptop, it tried to boot into Diagnosis repair but thankfully after several restarts, it can boot into Windows without loosing data.

SUBSCRIBED!
thank you so much! cloned my 256gb SSD into a 1tb one successfully like literally step by step in your video. so helpful!
This guy is the GOAT of detailed explanations, well deserved recognition and subbed
Thanks for the video. It works. Don't forget to turn on device encryption after finishing up.
Thank you. Your tone and patiently explaining in detail is excellent even for beginners.
You're very welcome! 😊
Worked so nicely, I am really happy - I was ready in 2 hours (cloning took 1:45), and now I have 750 GB more :D
Awesome!!
I have been looking for a clear video like this for ever.... unfortunately, I have already done all I could do wrong. Thanks a lot
Sounds great! Glad you were able to upgrade without any hiccup! 😊
@@TechGuyCharlie yep! No more Notion complaining about lack of space for this guy 👍🏽👍🏽
Excellent video. Will follow these steps to upgrade my 250gb SSD to a 1TB one. Definitely much more confident about doing it now.
Thank you for this video. In my desktop, the 256GB nvme ssd (c drive) is almost full and I am going to replace it with a 1TB. Fortunately I have two m.2 slots, so I don't need the USB enclosure. Your instructions were simple, very easy to follow, and super well organized. Thanks for taking the time to add the extra info, like if the new drive isn't showing the full 1TB. I never would have known that I had to reallocate the empty space. This video was perfect, and just what I needed. Thank you so much. Liked and subbed!
Very good breakdown, with all smaller details mentioned that many tutorials skip over.
Thank you for an EXCELLENT video! THIS is how you do an instructional video!
dude this is probably the best video I've seen and you've gone through the questions I kept wondering about, I shall be upgrading soon and will use this guide to clone :DD
i actually just watched that video for fun but in the end it helped me to introduce my new ssd to my desktop. thank you
Appreciate the video, extremely helpful! I just upgraded my ssd to a larger version and this video was perfect. Clear, concise and you literally answered every question I had as you were going through the steps.
Thank you Kevin! I hope you were able to upgrade the storage without any hiccups.
For anyone who did this and Can't extend the drive when you go back into windows with the new drive, the Free version of NiUbi Partition editor will let you move the unallocated partition to the right of the c: drive then you can resize C: to include the unallocated space.
The most useful video for anyone who has got a new laptop and want to upgrade ❤️❤️❤️❤️thank you so much
