About Kung Jin and Kung Lao confusion: it's not exactly impossible for Jin to idolise Lao even if he never met him in person. It's completely normal for family members to honour the memory and look up to their deceased relatives, especially if they were great people like Kung Lao is. But I have to agree that Jin always felt a bit older compared to his teammates, I guess it has something to do with his face probably. Anyway, great video and happy birthday!
He was actually a lil kid when kung loa was killed by shoa kahn in mk 9 if I'm not mistaken. I might be wrong but this was referenced somewhere i seen & i was shocked so i think he is the oldest of the kombat kids
You can actually tell Shujinko's age accurately after every timeskip by checking the in-game calendar. The game starts at the date "1/1/1". For simplicity's sake, let's assume Shujinko's birthday is January 1st. Meaning he just turned 13. After the training with Bo Rai Cho, it's Year 6, Shujinko is now aged 18. This is confirmed further by the game itself telling you that 5 years have passed. When Shujinko collects the Chaosrealm Kamidogu, he enters a time-altering pool, he is unaware of many years passing by. According to the calendar, the year is 16, meaning Shujinko should be 28. Mentally, he's still 18. Shujinko eventually trains with Nightwolf to purify his soul. The year is 27, he is now 39. After he is imprisoned for the unforgiveable crime of skipping a curfew, the year is 47, meaning he should be 59. To recap, Kid: 13 Young Adult: 18 Adult: 28 Middle Age: 39 Old: 59 Then again, as you said, Deception's timeline is weird, you go from pre-MK1 to post-MKDA in a matter of minutes.

Hey, happy birthday! Thanks for the fun video and kudos on the info. In regards to that statement of Shujinko's journey being 40 years long, I recall Ed talking about the character, might have been his bio card, and stating that when he's the old man, that's when he's unlocked for the arcade mode. That MIGHT be where the length of the journey is mentioned.
It could just be that NRS isn't using the ages presented in that comic for their lore. "Over 50" is a pretty safe assumption if you don't know how old he was before a 30 year time jump.

For Shujinko, the information about how long his quest took might be in one of the Bio cards or the updated History of Mortal Kombat video from Deception. I remember 40 years as well.

One thing to note about Liu Kang and Goro, them being Champions of Mortal Kombat. That carried the whole not aging thing. This would make Liu Kang, at the time of his death in Deadly Alliance, only 34 chronologically while he's 24 physically. For Goro, it's unclear if 2000 is his physical or chronological age. At the time of OG MK, he'd either be 2000 chronologically and 1550 physically or 2450 chronologically and 2000 physically. A GamePro magazine from around the time of MK2 stated Shang Tsung's young form in that game was 19. Kung Lao they've never been clear with if he was younger or older than Liu Kang by any amount. It always seemed like maybe they were the same age. However, John Tobias said back in 2021 that Lao was intended to be a few years older than Liu Kang. Whether or that is still intended, who knows, but let's roll with it. "Few" is probably gonna have a different meaning to different people. For sake of argument, I'll say it's a range of 2-4 years. So Kung Lao was born sometime between 1964-1966 and is 2-4 years older than Liu Kang as a result.

Wonky timeline, as you said. 1901: Beginning of Konquest mode; Shujinko is 13 1906: Five years pass while training with Bo' Rai Cho; Shujinko is 18 1916: Ten years pass while in Chaosrealm after gaining the Kamidogu (still 1906 right before the Kamidogu is obtained, and it's 1916 after the aging); Shujinko is 28 biologically, 18 mentally 1927: Eleven years pass while training with Nightwolf; Shujinko is 39 biologically, 29 mentally 1947: Twenty years pass while Shujinko is in Orderrealm jail; Shujinko is 59 biologically, 39 mentally I hope this helps!
Happy birthday, 4thSnake. I've always enjoyed your videos about Mortal Kombat and actually made me interested in the lore a lot more. There is a lot of great stories in the MK universe that I feel the Netherrealm games ever even touched upon, such as the Dragon King, Armageddon or even the multiverse. A great video, by the way.
I've memories of MK: Special Forces being set 5 years before the tournament (1987) as stated in the manual of the game, but cannot confirm this info online. In MK X Johnny is 50-something as stated in his bio. In MK 11 Young Kano tells his older self: "Over 50 years old and still a ripper!" Sonya DOB is 06/21/1967.
After watching this video, I'm reminded that NetherRealm squandered a huge opportunity by not setting Mortal 1 Kombat's release date on September 13th instead of the 19th. That would have made it thirty years to the day since Mortal Monday.

MK 11 shows Sonya's bio information, which features her DoB: June 21, 1967. Enlistment at August 14, 1989. Became general at April 15, 2007.
