      Hey that's cool you're in Tucson too! Good luck at your next appointment. I'll be 1 year on T this month! There's a support group here also where you can ask questions and meet other trans guys and nonbinary people. Feel free to reach out if you need anything.

    I'm worried about my blood draw but I know I'll get through it. I just have a tendency to concentrate on the actual needle pulling blood and the feeling is beyond unpleasant 😅

      That gave me the chills. I usually try to think about anything else or my wife will talk to me and ask me questions so my mind is elsewhere. You'll do good, remember, it is only a temporary feeling. Good luck!

    sorry if this is too personal of a question, but my first meeting is on the 30th and I was wondering if you had previously been going to a therapist for gender related reasons, since you were able to get it about a month after the first appointment. Ive heard you have to go to one for 6 months and another for any amount of time to get two referrals, or could that have to do with the age range of minor and adult? Also congrats on almost 1 year on T!!

    • @vltracade6347
      @vltracade6347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw a gender therapist once a year prior to starting T. The requirements can vary by state/country and I could easily see more requirements being in place for minors to begin hormones. The healthcare provider I see uses "informed consent" when prescribing hormones. They basically go over all of the changes and effects of hormones to inform you so you can consent to taking them. They still care about your overall health and safety etc.
      It is common to need a referral/letter from a therapist to get top surgery or other gender related surgeries. It may even be required by your insurance if you're trying to get it covered.
      If you have more questions let me know, I'm happy to answer them if I can. Hit my 1 year today so thank you! Also, good luck at your appointment coming up!

    How in depth are the physical exams for the prep of testosterone? Other than the blood tests

    • @vltracade6347
      @vltracade6347 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My doctor asked about my general health and family history as it was my first time ever seeing them. She also asked a few questions about my decision to transition likely to just see if I had actually thought about it and understood its implications. Bloodwork. That was it.

    How many days or weeks did it take for your blood results to come back?

    • @vltracade6347
      @vltracade6347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I usually get the results from my doctor within a week.

    Did you talk with insurance before your appointment or how did that go?

    • @cadesomers5220
      @cadesomers5220 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried to talk to my insurance but it didn't help much. Honestly, most things are covered by copay because it is a regular doctors appointment, the bloodwork/labs are mostly covered by insurance I usually have to pay around $50 to do it every 6 months. My prescription is covered as well so it is usually around $8-$10 per vial of testosterone which lasts me 4 doses.

    I'm turning 18 in 9 months, I'm not out, I don't have a job or health insurance....everything just feels so far out of reach.

    • @vltracade6347
      @vltracade6347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I felt that way before too. When you look at everything there is in front of you it can be overwhelming. Try and just look at what your next step is and do it one step at a time. I am happy to talk to you about anything and listen if you'd like. Just let me know and we can move this to fb messenger or IG or something.
