    Music Box is truly her PEAK, strong and full lows, supported belting with amazing resonance and vibrato, head voice is fuller than the other eras, her whistle were at the best.
    Pitch, stamina, breath support, agility, transitions, everything was so well balanced and perfectly executed. We should inspire in MB for our techniques.

    I think a lot of people forgot that mariah admitted to smoking before her first album came out. I think that added the coarser "smoky" tone to her voice. Then with proper treatment and a different mask placement we got music box and daydream

She had everything during that era-strong and full lows, supported, resonant belting with amazing vibrato, head voice was fuller than the other eras, her whistles were at its peak. Vocal fatigue and mental stress changed her tone in the butterfly and rainbow eras
    . She recovered during Glitter and Charmbracelet era but was overworked again in TEOM. If TEOM flopped, she could have kept the charmbracelet vocal for a decade at least.

    • @whitepaper5241
      @whitepaper5241 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thing is, TEOM was a massive success in 2005, and in that same year, her vocals were just as consistent as they were during Charmbracelet era. But she went on tour in 2006, knowing full well her voice was dry, raspy, tired and inconsistent. The only thing that makes her voice worse is the fact that she doesn't train her voice really well by hiring a vocal coach who can understand her current voice and all the potentials that she has with it.

    The lows were the most troubled. She couldn't support them. And she used a low larynx on them.

    Respectfully, i think you're confusing raised larynx with nasality. It shouldn't be a crutch but nasality (I'm moderation) bridges the chest voice to head voice. It also can cancel out difficult consonants and glottals that normally pause airflow while singing

  • @jadepatrick7644
    @jadepatrick7644 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would argue the debut 1990-94. And we have to take into account the "production" side. She also says herself Tommy intended to smooth her out to make her more mainstream. Pop singers typically sing with a moderately raised larynx ranging around 50/50 mix. Her nasal has always been on point, to me. I can't help but imagine tommy requiring her to some strict vocal coaching which probably was miserable but helped her stamina.

    Her voice after 92 into 93 gained a lot of weight too because it was changing. Your voice matures all the way through your 30s, so that super thin tone she had between 90 and 92 was also something she probably grew out of. We know this because over the entirety of her career her voice has always added on more and more weight as time has gone on. Even without purposefully changing her technique (because Mimi in reality hasn't changed her technique since the mid-90s as her voice has naturally gotten heavier with age which is her biggest downfall), her voice became a lot heavier and deeper as seen with how her voice gained more bulk from 97 through Charm.

      I disagree with you in Music Box era being the most inconsistent in terms of technique. As this video mentioned her technical problems in the Debut era were with overdrive-ish belts along with less vocal freedom on certain notes, while in Music Box era, she did a better job/the best job she has done in her career with singing as free with minimal/unnecessary tension as much as possible. Her technique was the most refined in 1993. Her lows were good, her mid-belts were the best, and her upper-belts were the best it had been along with her upper-belts in Daydream. Even in the tour when she encountered some choices while sick, for instance with dodging and vocal changes, her technique was still the most polished, and was as polished as it was in earlier promotional performances. In 1994, the performances she did were definitely not as good as the ones in 1993. Her upper-belts weren't as consistent. In Daydream era, her upper-belts are more consistent and she sang a lot of good upper-belts in performances/concerts, but her voice started to be introduced to unnecessary tensions like tense, thin, and squeezed notes. Her voice started to encounter problems like these in some performances in 1994. Her voice in Emotions era was the most polished after Music Box era, but still dealt with some problems she faced pre-1993 with technique and her technique as a whole-era wasn't as consistent as 1993, as you can see with what TQOL pointed out in this video.

      @@ce3540 I shouldn't have mentioned her debut in my comment because she was trying to figure out her voice in a live setting. But I didn't necessarily mean her technique, but her overall voice and registers. Her technique during MB was very clean and I feel it set her at vocalist status instead of just a great singer. So I agree with you there. But I feel that Emotions era, overall, had more consistency from bottom to top. I can't see MB era performing If Its Over like the Grammys performance. Above E5 (and sometimes D5) was pretty inconsistent for MB. Emotions era, she displayed power AND range in her belts effortlessly. Her lows were really strong, and whistles were actually neck and neck. MB era low and Mid belts and clarity were the highlight of the era, but to me, that's really about it. 95-96 may not have had the lows like MB, or didn't focus as much on whistles, but the clarity, fluidity, RESONANCE, And upper belts were on point 90 percent of the time.

      @@AnonymousXtinaSinger using "if it's over" as an example is not good idea because the Grammys is the only time she sang that song successfully.
      All the other performances of that song have rough, tense, and strained vocals.
      Her lows, belts, hv and whistles were all good during music box. She was consistent up till F5. She also had the least amount of pitch issues compared to all the other eras.

      @@michaelwatson5722 Thank you. I HATE THAT THEY PIVOT EVERYTHING around one performance as if she did not sing as good in 91, her can't let go at Arsenio hall is underrated
