They can get eye infections from the substrate getting to dry. Resulting in dust. Particularly cedar mulch. Organic top soil or organic potting soil mixed with coconut coir/ fiber. Or mixed with sphagnum moss is much safer for them and won't impact them if accidentally swallowed. On top of eye infectionsthe can also get respiratory infections which the are prone to from dusty substrates. Like your vids keep it up!

Probably an upper respiratory infection. She got an anabiotic and I got meds to give her. She’s doing better.

I love you table set ups. Is there a reason you don’t want your boxies to brumate? My have gone under outside, I know its too cold where you live, but I’m in California. My hatchlings have been brought into the house.

I haven’t had them long enough to know if they are healthy enough. It is suggested to keep them a year before brumation.

Regarding your Russians: You have too many tortoises in too small of a space. There's no opportunity for your females to escape the males, who generally are very aggressive/territorial and will constantly try to breed. It's very likely that this is causing stress for your females and eventually the health issues you are seeing. I'd separate the tortoises and seek to have a higher ratio of females in the group. This is just my experience with Russians and tortoises in general. Nothing personal, just trying to help. I'm pulling for your breeding project to be successful! Would love to see more Russian breeders here in the US.

Thanks for your impute! I do know the enclosure is a little small for them if they where to be in there permanently. And, the male that is with the two females is a dud male. He is not mature enough to successfully breed the females, making him not want to breed very often. My other male I did need to separate because of aggression.

Hey man, if you are going to keep Russians in a group, I would recommend at least three females to one male. The males will spend much of their time chasing the females and this can put a lot of stress on them and cause them to get sick. Having more females will help to divide the attention up.
