Boring is getting to be just about my speed. As I’m getting older, I find large cities to be ridiculously fast paced, and enjoy the comfortable refuge of small towns. The history of these places is simply fascinating.
Be careful what you wish for: Pocatello is situated on a high semi-arid desert. It’s either hot or it’s cold. Spring and fall are usually short in duration.
"The Railroad" is the Union Pacific and Pocatello is a major division point and yards--and a very nice train station. It was built in the 1880s as a branch of UP's transcontinental mainline connecting Wyoming to Oregon and Butte, MT. Legend has it that the local Indian chief liked pork and tallow the settlers brought in, so his nickname was "Pork'n'tallow."
I live in Pocatello, Born and raised. I have lived in other places, but Pocatello seems to always draw me back somehow. It's so nice to get up in the morning and look out the window to see the beautiful mountain view. Yes, it is a boring town but it is a unique place for sure. I'm surprised you didn't show more of the university campus. It has many historic buildings and the Holt Arena, the first domed college stadium in the world. It would have also been nice to see you visit the Portneuf Wellness Complex and amphitheater, rather than showing so much of the clean museum. That said, I really enjoyed your spotlight of my hometown!
@@SinghCapital You should make it a destination sometime rather than just driving through, especially if you appreciate natural beauty. We have that in abundance here. You need to get off the interstate to see the real Idaho though. My nephew lives in Spokane. Nice city.
Looks chill like Omaha, though even quieter. I think I could settle down there if I wanted to move and yes I say the same thing to Joe all the time though no response spend more time in the city and actually explore it now that you have been on for over a year and did all the quick run thrus.
Thanks, Joe & Nicole , I love your channel. There is something about your video, the comintary style that I find very relaxing & calming and informative. It was a great presentation! Take care, Joe & Nicole , enjoy your break, I will be looking forward to your return. ❤
Have you ate at the Taco Time there? It use to be an old radio station & my Dad helped build it. The building was in the back & they brought it closer to the road on a new foundation. He even changed the original floor plan to accommodate the restrooms & put the walk in cooler closer to the the drive-thru window. He slept in the basement & it was fun to visit him where I would sit on a saddle & eat a toco. He even turned an old gas station in Blackfoot into a Taco Time. Also restored the Taco Time in Rexburg after the Teton dam flood. I’ve been to the house of clean but didn’t go in because it was closed. I delivered an old vacuum that my Aunt donated. Only time I ever stop in Pokey is getting gas on my way to Montana for a family reunion.
Spent some time in Pocatello back in 1988, on a student exchange. Went to Pocatello High School (9:41). However, I was there in winter. Everything gray. Nice to see Pocatello as it looks in summer.
When I was a student at USU 90 miles south, Pocatello was the party town we went to---with all the taverns and ISU gatherings. And traffic is not so serene up north on Yellowstone Avenue where the chains are.
in fact I feel so relaxed seeing all your videos -as most of them show non-noisy places, trees, deserts, mountains and long lonely roads. I sincerely appreciate your efforts. regards
Born and raised in Pocatello. Went away for 22 years in the service. Saw many places, and many cities. None of them were like Pocatello. The Monarch Building you saw burned several years ago. The new owners tried to raise money to restore it. It has a historical significance. Saw many movies in the Chief Theater.

I’d live in this city! It’s gorgeous ! I love the Hotel Yellowstone and the high school. The murals are fantastic. The museum is real cool! Doesn’t look boring to me! Thank you for a great video!
My family lived on the west side of town for a short time when I was 12, and a girl was kidnapped and murdered that went to my school. It just wasn’t the same after that. I went back last summer, and this place still gives me the creeps. Nice video though.
Boring is in the mind of the beholder. I have visited many tiny and small towns in many areas and there is always something interesting or someone who did something interesting. Stop in a small restaurant at first light for breakfast , sit down and chat with the people. You would be amazed how nice these places are as seen through their eyes! Cheers, Rik Spector
I played football at Idaho State and graduated in 2000. Came back to CA and haven't been back to Poky since. I would like to go back there sometime for a homecoming game and just see how the town looks now.
Pocatello High School 9:26 YES What a beautiful building! I had a chance 2 visit Idaho & stopped and stayed in Wallace, Twin Falls, & Boise. Fortunately the Boise River Festival was going on while there. 👌 Had not stopped or remember passing through Pocatello & now wish I did
That wagon pulled vacuum cleaner was sold for a Business as a town service, not for private civilian ownership. They would go around and vacuum furniture or clean door entry way carpets or vacuum the front entry way of hotels or prestigious office buildings. Lawyers and Politicians would get their carpet vacuumed in their offices. Pretty much what most people vacuum today, only that wagon was the only vacuum in town. 😁
My mate was a kirby service engineer apparently when you bought a kirby it came with a life time garrante like snap on tools 😮and serviced every year no charge that's why thay were very expensive
I don’t know why but one of my favourite parts of your vidoes now is when you go out to eat and show and react to the food lol usually looks good and is interesting lol
I spent my 6th birthday in Pocatello. We were taking the train to Oregon & we had a layover there. I got a chocolate milkshake & a Cottie game. The population then was about 26,000. Been in Oregon 70 years now.
On a road trip from Northern California to Montana with my mother and one of her sisters, we drove through Pocatello Idaho. I was about Five and remember making a joke about "Poking someone's Tello" when we got there.
Buster Brown had his own TV show in the 1950s. It is "here's my dog Tighe (like railroad tie)). Show featured Froggy the gremlin and Smilin Ed, the host.
I am not from Pocatello but it is my favorite town after moving a lot then going in to the service. I love all the hiking, I think it's much prettier outside of down town. After living near Chicago and on the east coast the winters don't feel that bad.
Pocatello looks very nice and it does seem peaceful, a great place to live. I really like what they did with the drainpipe in the mural too. lol That was cute. Have a great day and safe travels
Boring is better than living in a tourist trap with a high cost of living just because of the increase in people moving into a once slow and peaceful Village. We finally sold our historic home and moved into the country with lower property taxes, less traffic, quiet and safer. Anyone remember the "Green Acre" television program well that is us today...God Bless and have a very Merry Christmas everyone.
You seen prices lately rent is ridiculous. Wages are low house prices are through the roof. A lot of us are stuck here cause we can’t afford to move out.
I moved to Poki like 10 years ago, it is more interesting than Malad Idaho. Fun Fact: Poki is where Idaho's first Elevator was... at least according to the guy that owns it.
This is my hometown! Pocatello is not boring, it is quaint city with small town feel. This town is full of good people and it is surrounded by natural beauty and outdoor activities. Thanks for sharing our rich history. I would be happy to show you other parts of our community. Come back for a visit anytime. Be well.
What a beautiful town ! Love that you give statistics on the towns you travel through . I get so hungry seeing the great restaurants you and Nic eat at ! Thanks for letting us all tag along on the journey
I was born and raised here and moved back from vegas here about 2 months ago.. I have an amazing house that is twice as size and half the price. It is an amazing place and allowed me to retire at 35. The funny part of this is I know the owner of the house of clean cause my dad owned to the longest owned company of central vacs.. He just sold it last year to retire.
I live in Pocatello, actually I live on the Indian reservation, but my address from the post office says Pocatello. I love the peaceful pace. I ride a dirt bike, and quads, there are some beautiful ATV trails all around Poky, and in Idaho in general. I suppose that if you are the kind of person that needs to be entertained, Poky might seem boring. However, if you like the outdoors, you will love it here except for winter. Today it is suppose to get up to 39 degrees. Last night it was 13 degrees. I was riding my quad on an ATV trail 4 years ago, and in a straight line, I was only 1 mile from Poky. I came around a corner and there standing in the trail was the biggest Bull Moose I had ever seen. I did not know what to do, so I turned off the quad and just sat there. He looked at me and then moseyed away, without a care in the world. He was as big as a horse!! I have lived in Oregon (Born there) Washington, Nevada, California, and Idaho. My favorite 2 states are Idaho and Nevada. We don't have homeless pooping in the streets or living on the sidewalks here. We do have a little crime here, but not as bad as the big cities. 3 years ago I finely had to start locking up my shop. I was sad about that!!!
Hi wonderful couple. U gave me a surprise vid to watch on a Wednesday! Yay! I could definitely retire in Pocatello, my kind of calm & stats. Another great vid🥰 Thank you Joe & Nicole.

Pocatello High was renovated (again, there have been several) in 1939. The first part of that structure was built in 1892. There are 4 museums and a zoo in Pocatello. The two engines you saw in the mural are on display in lower Ross Park.

Hello Joe and Nicol I have Always wait to see your videos they are interesting and educational, I can't travel due to health issues, but with your videos I travel with you both, keep up the good work. 😅😅
A lot of US towns and cities are pretty dull but that doesn’t make them bad places to live. I have been to many places with lots to see and do for the visitor that l wouldn’t want to live there.
I visited Wallace Idaho and found it charming with great huckleberry milkshakes! Buster Brown was one of my childhood favorites. I was over the moon when my parents brought me my first pair of Buster Brown shoes. There were Buster Brown shoe stores in my city in Connecticut 😊❤
Very nice video! I live in twin falls and am very grateful to be an idahoan. Buster Brown's dog's name is pronounced 'Tie-g' (long I.. btw, some useful information right there lol)
Inspired by your videos we are coming to the end of a 4 week road trip through 12 states. There's now 6000 more miles on the rental car and it's been amazing. I'm drawn to the little towns lije Yazoo and Broken Arrow 👌
Joe and Nic. Try Northern Idaho. You go up there and I guarantee you 💯 % that you'd fall in love with it. Only one drawback for us was, the snow and ice in the Winter time. Oh, it's very pretty but, slipping on the ice is no fun. I've spent weeks/months in the hospital recuperating from broken bones. We are now classified as Snow Birds in Arizona.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTripwhen you come back, an interesting place to visit, outside of Athol, is Farragut State Park. It's an old WW2 Submarine training camp. There's a Museum that tells a lot of history of the camp. IIRC, there were 40,000 plus Sailors who trained there during the war years.
What a lovely interesting town, loved all of the signs on the buildings and the historic street lighting. It's about the same size and population as my town in the UK. However it was the story of the theatre that hit home. Here is a cut and paste from an article about one here, the similarities are remarkable. The Regal Super Cinema opened on 31st May 1937 with Will Hay in “Good Morning Boys”. Seating was provided for 1,000 in the stalls and 350 in the circle. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. In late-1963 it was closed to enable the stage to be enlarged and the installation of equipment from the closed New Theatre. It re-opened on 26th December 1963 as the Regal Theatre with the pantomime “Babes in the Wood”. Stage shows and films then continued until it was closed on 3rd July 1976 with a screening of the Swedish sex film “Anita” starring Christina Lindberg. In 1979 it was converted into small shops in the lower stalls. The circle area became a 200-seat Regal Cinema from 9th May 1983 when it re-opened with “Airplane 2”. Films ceased on 4th January 2001 with a screening of “Charlie’s Angels”. It was converted into a night club. In mid-2002 a serious fire later occurred and the building was demolished around 2006. The site is now a car park.
The first vacuum cleaner shown (circa 1901) likely was not privately owned but carted about by a sales service person who'd run the tube into the home and do the cleaning for the customer. The apparatus was too big to take into the house. The second one shown (circa 1906) showed a major technological advancement in reduced size so that it could be kept by a private homeowner, perhaps in a carriage house or a shed. Despite the large rooftop sign, the Yellowstone Hotel may no longer be such, although its upper floors surely seem in use and must be because the building's owner would not be able to financially maintain the building solely from the rent of the ground floor restaurant. If it were still active, Pocadello would be yet another distant U.S. city in which I could suppose myself spending several pleasant days.
A really interesting video, and a beautiful city, with a nice relaxed atmosphere. It's very sad that the beautiful old theatre is gone, but I love the old signage and the mosaic. The residential area is lovely, and I agree with you about preferring a peaceful life, very calming. The museum is awesome, I've never seen one like it !! Thanks so much, Joe and Nic, I really enjoyed this video.😊❤
Boring is a self-imposed punishment of a small mind. I earned my pharmacy degree at Idaho State and it has served me very well for more years than I care to count. Pocky was a perfect college town. Thanks for the look around.
A very clean and nice town, no,litter all over the place, I’m 59 years old, I’m done with the drama and nightlife, been there, done that. We have a boring life anyway, ha, I like quiet also , it’s very quiet where I live in a very nice neighborhood in Philly, it’s not all like Kensington! I’m monitoring the weather in Pocatello, just for the hell of it, our winters have been mild for the last couple of years, we’ve had some doozies of snowstorms here! Nice video, Happy Trails, y’all !

Most days, you can go to the Museum Of Clean and have this quite large building all to yourself. It’s kind of fun.
I really enjoyed this road trip thanks for taking us along
Very nice video! I live in twin falls and am very grateful to be an idahoan.
Buster Brown's dog's name is pronounced 'Tie-g' (long I.. btw, some useful information right there lol)
Inspired by your videos we are coming to the end of a 4 week road trip through 12 states. There's now 6000 more miles on the rental car and it's been amazing. I'm drawn to the little towns lije Yazoo and Broken Arrow 👌
That is awesome!
We will be heading to north Idaho next summer. :)
Nice town! I'll take the snow and cold over crime any day!
Old Town with The Yellowstone is on the south side of the tracks, I call the north side by the courthouse, ISU, and Museum downtown.
Beautiful, clean, uncluttered city. Really nice to see this kind of civic pride.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
I got a kick out of seeing an artist rendition of Kurt Vonnegut in the mural. One of his most popular sayings were "So it goes"
Dynamite shrimp sound good 😋 the gumbo looks good. Prices are about medium. Food looks delicious 😋

In Utah you can be a Jewish and a Gentile at the same time!
Boring is a self-imposed punishment of a small mind. I earned my pharmacy degree at Idaho State and it has served me very well for more years than I care to count. Pocky was a perfect college town. Thanks for the look around.
I take it you've never been to Boring, OR. It's literally named Boring. I owned a cabinet shop there for years.
I am a Pocatello resident. Boring but peaceful. People are generally neighborly
