Rick Moranis is a good actor. He left acting to be a full-time father to his 2 kids after his wife passed away from cancer. He hasn't really missed acting but declared he has not retired from it. Now that his kids are grown up and on their own, he's considering returning to acting IF.... a part that he REALLY wants comes his way.
He was assaulted in New York and my dream of him making another movie is down the drain but I am happy that his family gets more time with him dude has been around since the 50's and gave us family comedies, adult comedies, and children comedies Rick Moranis gave us laughter for ages and made me feel better that I had to wear glasses
It’s even better to find out that everything Rick and Dave say in their Bob and Doug sketches was improvised. Rick Moranis is a genius at improvising. In the movie Spaceballs, he improvised the scene where Dark Helmet is playing with his dolls, which makes the scene all the more hilarious.
Rick Moranis; A TRUE GENIUS!!!!! So much so; he's ENTERTAINMENT ROYALTY!!!!! Just like his fellow "McKenzie Bro" (Dave "Doug McKenzie") Thomas & HIS REAL-LIFE BRO (IAN THOMAS; SIMPLY THE BEST SINGER/SONGWRITER EVER)!!!!! Ian's my CHILDHOOD IDOL!!!!!
To think that Rick & Dave just came up with something to fill the Canadian Content gap would become SCTV's largest sensation is mind boggling to say the least. It was always my favorite part of the show, is one of my favorite movies, and I quote Bob & Doug McKenzie pretty much daily.
I'm originally from the Pacific Northwest, and my observation has been that Canadians and Americans are the same regionally, from a cultural point of view. People from Alberta and B.C. are going to have similar memories and lifestyles to folks from Montana/Idaho/Washington/Oregon, and you can extrapolate that to folks from North Dakota/Minnesota//Saskatchewan/Manitoba; Toronoto//Buffalo/Detroit/Cleveland so on and so forth. The BIG differences are Ice Hockey culture, being nice to each other, population effects (America has 322million people, and Canada has 35million), and climate. If you have read this far, thank you for your time.
Yeah, It wasn't until I watched a Canadian show about a gas station I realized the Great Plains extends far into canada and they share alot of same, plains, culture. I didnt really think anything else was over there but I hadn't really put much thought into Canadian geography
Rick Moranis illustrated how seemingly ridiculous the Canadian Government is from his, and possibly other Canadians', point of view. The content of SCTV couldn't be more Canadian than having wonderful Canadian comedic talent like Moranis, Dave Thomas, John Candy, Eugeny Levy, Joe Flaherty, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, and Andrea Martin. But, in their infinite wisdom, they took a suggestion from Moranis and Thomas that became legendary comedic gold to both Canadian and non-Canadian hosers everywhere, eh. Now I'm gonna get my back bacon and beer, and I'm gonna take off, eh!
Cool! BTW, the host of 'Don't Just Sit There' was Matt Brown, who later co-hosted the pilot episode of the 'Wild and Crazy Kids'. In 1998, he later hosted the Discovery Kids game show 'Zap It'. Thanks for posting.
Good question, I have wondered about that myself. I know there are some difference in how they talk, even if it's not easy to hear. From outsiders that is I suppose, I'm European ( Not French ;)
Poor Moranis, poor kid... this whole format is a disaster, lmao. Looks like Nickelodeon was trying to get a little of the MTV demo by borrowing some of their format but it just doesn't work when your audience is kids age 5-12.
I don't know. I think the Canadian Government did a great job. But, like all government programs, it wasn't on purpose. If they hadn't had that silly rule, the Hosers would never have seen the light of day. It really worked well in the music industry. Americans would have never heard of Anne Murray, Paul Anka, Gordon Lightfoot, The Guess Who, and Justin Bieber. Oh, wait, the rule was gone when Justin Bieber showed up. What does that tell you?
The CRTC canadian content rule doesnt just apply if the artist was born in Canada. It has to be majority of the final product I.e. the song written produced and sung by canadians. Bieber's music doesnt count anymore because its written by majority americans (Americans help him write the songs) and produced/recorded in America and his band/back up singers are American so it isnt canadian.
Interestingly enough, Rick Moranis and Geddy Lee went to school together. Hence Geddy's participation on the 'Take Off' single from the Great White North album by Bob and Doug.
When Geddy says "Ten bucks is ten bucks," it's a callback to something much earlier on the album when Bob and Doug tell the listeners that their lawyer told them he would pay them ten bucks-- EACH-- to do the album, "so we're not morons!" I have often hidden the Geddy quote in artwork. One time I drew some fake money for a project, and even though it wasn't going to be seen very close on camera, I enjoyed putting in little jokes for my own amusement. Where it should have said 'E pluribus unum', I put 'Ten bucks is ten bucks ~G. Lee'.

Rick Moranis is awesome! Guy has never gotten enough credit for how talented he is.
Likewise w/the Thomas Brothers (Dave & Ian).

Canada has RUSH, beats all american bands. Heck beats all bands.

Did not know that and I know a lot about RUSH. Thanks for the info. Very interesting.
