My guest today is Sam Hakimi. An immigrant from Iran, entrepreneur and a Karate black belt. Sam owns and operates "Hustle Striking" boxing and kickboxing gym in Los Angeles. He works with kids and adults and teaches them how to box and stand up for themselves.

This always cracks me up. "If you're gonna choose one?!?". You don't have to choose one!!! If you wanna choose one form of grappling I would say Jiu-Jitsu or Sambo, but if you say you wanna be the best grappler that you can be, train in Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, and Judo!

very interesting take I'd say, and I would also agree however I would argue that karate is martial, if you only trained karate and never mixed it with pure boxing or kickboxing, wrestling etc, that you are still in a very good position to fight someone in hand to hand combat and there is much more to it than just an 'art'. Kumite is a huge component of karate and without practicing what you've learnt and applying it in a real fighting situation such as sparring, then yes you could argue that it may just be an art form.
