learning the basics of skiing is easy, learning advanced skiing is hard. Learning the basics of boarding is hard, but once you have that down, boarding advanced is easy.
Which is why 90% of all snowboarders that I observe on the mountain can't even ride or carve correctly lol. I still rarely actually see snowboarders who can ride advanced correctly. With correct weight positioning, correct carving techniques, correct body alignment etc. Maybe 1 out of 100 snowboarders have all this. Most of snowboarders on the mountains ride with counter rotation and poor techniques. So I kinda disagree to this old statement. And also, there are too many dimensions on a mountain to just put it black and white, you talking about groomers? Park? Tree runs? Park with a snowboard will pretty much always be harder, to coordinate your body sideways midair will always feel more unnatural, to do spins sideways (360 etc) will always feel more unnatural. Doing backflips from a sideway position will always feel more unnatural etc. Next point, Ice: Riding on ice will always be easier with skiis because you have twice the edge (i have skiid as well), And now what about Treeruns? treeruns is also a bit more challenging with a snowboard, if you need to break the speed with skiis in a narrow tree run you can basically just ''pizza'' out of the danger to slow down the speed to avoid hitting a tree or losing control, snowboards are so wide so we don't always have the slow down options while running trees, lot of times we just end up going faster and faster, and won't be able to break the speed until we get out of the tree mass. We just have to endure the narrow tree trail and accept the speed that we have until we get out, sounds easy right.. Imagine this in a advanced tree terrain with lot's of rocks and narrow tree paths where you can't break the speed at all, sounds fun right. // Snowboardinstructor and have been riding for 15 years, no hate just facts! I skied for the first time on Thursday it was fun and 9 bruises later I am wanting to get my own (I rented) I passed the bunny hill in 5 tries but when ever I went to stop I just kept going no matter how much I pressed, probably because it wasn't snow, it was ice cubes
You really have to dig your ski's in on ice slopes. Otherwise, you slide like you said. There is a big difference between pressing and digging though :) Another thing you can do is what I like to call slide-stop-turns. These are where you slide into a really hard and sharp turn then end facing the other direction. Really helps in narrow paths when you can't slide for an extended distance.

If you’re young and have no fear you could learn to ski and jump in the same day. i used to be a ski instructor then I went through some surgeries I’m trying to get myself in shape to get back on the slopes so this video was very encouraging for me thank you for reminding me how much I missed it. I learned skiing long ago and the fact that the mountain was real close helped . Beginners do the snowplow to slow down but there are other ways to brake but that comes later The thing that I remember being told is to keep my legs bent and not to be nervous when looking down the mountain. Small hills are great for learning to ski backwards but going faster is where most of the fun is . To take turns shift your weight and put more weight on the inside edge of ski .

Yea once you fall a couple times. Get snow inside your gloves and have to spend the rest of the day with wet hands. You will realize that your jacket should actually be underneath your gloves.
I am a ski racer and I can asure you that is not easy. I broke 4 bones in one same hear but I continue fighting to get in first place. Skiing is not only about your skills but it is more about your actitude to keep trying and stand up every time you fail.
