I think Daniel had a crush on Emma on the first two HP movies, then, I think it became mutual during POA and GOF and I think that they might have dated for a short period of time as well, but they were both very private about it... for exemple in this interview in Japan, Emma shows that she has definitely a crush on Dan... she acts like a teenager trying not to give away that she has a crush or is dating someone and only comments "I genuinely like him". I definitely think that they sort of dated or were at least assessing wether dating each other would be a clever move... to me, they seem like very rational people and It wouldn't surprise me if they decided to date someone not that related to this HP universe and fandom since being a couple in HP , might have been too overwhelming... then, they also met new people with whom it was easier to get involved with... and so, they kind of just kept being friends and now they've become a little bit strangers to each other... as far as I know, they don't talk or have much contact with each other nowadays... and I think this is normal too!! What amazes me that it never came out in the open, had it not been for these clips, we might have never known. Dan always liked Emma and that was obvious even at the end as he, as both Harry/any other role and himself, are notoriously bad at hiding their feelings on and off screen. Emma didn’t notice him too much at the start, and in 3-4 it was obvious she reciprocated, even if that faded away for her later. I am sure they discussed it, even if they didn’t act on it due to compatibility reasons. And I hope they do meet again in the future even if only for professional reasons.

I wonder how strict the contracts were though, like part of them hiding their relationship was also because of their contractual boundations to the films, HP was one of the biggest franchises, with a lot of money depending upon these actors, their chemistry in the films as well, may be the makers didn’t want canon pairings ruined for the audience and also a no dating rule might have been in their contracts so that their personal relationship doesn’t affect their dynamics onscreen, since they all had to work together for so many years. I swear I have seen some of the movie clips a lot of times and Dan and Emma secretly communicated in one of those through some hand gestures and eye movements, I couldn’t believe my eyes but then I thought maybe that’s how they communicated a lot of times on the set. Since a lot of media was present on sets too which used to take their pics and interview them, also because the cast and crew were present all the time as well, may be they just didn’t want many people to know about their relationship, we have seen numerous instances of them acting a little more than friendly in those BTS clips, and it was going on since a long time, the looks they always gave each other were not platonic, since I presume they didn’t want to be risk seen together in the outside world, the film set was their “romantic little world as well”.
