Caleb blends so well with the ensemble! Nice to hear a trumpeter that can make Brandenburg sound like chamber music rather than a trumpet solo with chamber music accompaniment.
Caleb just gets better and better! It’s sheer joy for me, as an underachieving trumpet player, to listen to him play. I marvel at how effortless his playing is. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting him, he’s a super nice guy!!
This is the best performance I have ever heard of the trumpet part: perfectly in line with the other solo instruments. So incredibly hard to play that high on a trumpet and not over power a flute and oboe (and violin too). Incredible.
Do you think it's also over powering something here? th-cam.com/video/mXUW1HHnPRg/w-d-xo.html Of course the trumpet is naturally dominant, that is also something to keep in mind. But maybe we need some gender studies on the trumpet 😀
Whoa. Totally forgot that Bach wrote this masterpiece. Wonderful to be reminded that this man's musical capacities were indeed vast. Bravo to all who played this jewel of a piece with great aplomb and expertise! The through-line was passed from instrument to instrument with such panache and confidence.
I have heard many live performances and recordings of this, but this is the only one I have ever heard in which the trumpet player is in tune. Now, of course, the natural trumpet was not "well-tempered" so Bach never heard it with the intonation we have today. Caleb is a virtuoso master of the piccolo trumpet.
THIS is the performance that trumpet students should listen to as an example. This sort of perfect intonation is hard to achieve, especially on the higher trumpets. Ultra high level of technique and musicianship. I don't know if Bach ever heard it by anyone this talented, perhaps. But unfortunately, never on an instrument that it made it possible to play like this. It might be how he heard it in his head.
Excellent playing Caleb, would love to hear you on the natural trumpet! As brilliant as you are, the modern trumpet timbre is overpowering the other soloists slightly. This remark is not intended to criticise your superb performance, which is truly fabulous.
Thats how the brandenburg concerto should be played, when bach originally wrote it for the F baroque trumpet, which is a delicate trumpet and not a strident one
I remember seeing an Ice Bucket Challenge video of Caleb playing this. Imagine trying to nail those high Gs as ice water is being poured onto your head!
Sorry to be such a nerd, but he’s playing that on a C Pic, right (not a Bb)? He’s just actually playing in F, not G (were it a Bb). Just kind of blew me away. I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a C pic (although I’m sure they’re made)
I just don't get why is there a conductor. In the baroque period the basso continuo - the harpsichordist - was the director and just for the starting speed. I don't like his "dance" in front of the orchestra
it's not a trumpet concerto... on the contrary i'm impressed how well the ensemble fits together here despite using modern instruments (in which usually the piccolo trumpet overpowers the rest of the ensemble)
Es gibt nicht viele Trompeter auf dieser Welt, die dieses Konzert öffentlich spielen können.
Deshalb: Bravo!

yes that's a good quality
Especially with modern trumpet

What was once said of Maurice Andre can now be said of Mr. Hudson---his trumpet sings with the delicacy of a violin.
that's not the same style
Also because the way to play baroque has evolved
I like this version better compared to MA, the style are more flowting and soft.
Bravo pulito preciso ottima articolazione giusto suono per il brano equilibrato ottima musica Bach sarebbe contento
Gotta be one of Bach's best compositions ... and this is one of the best performances of it !! Thank you so much !!

Beautiful sound and style! The whole group has such a wonderful blend!
Thank you kindly!
Wow !! Great performance
So great, bravo!

Sound's clear as violin!!!
Bravo Mr. Hudson! Great sound on the picc
Absolutely clean high notes!!!
Great player. He appears to be getting better and better - surely considered as one of the greats.
Simply wonderful 👏

Gorgeous, Talented Hunk on Trumpet!
What a groove baby!!!
Sublime!
Beautiful 😎🎺❤️
Perfeito! Caleb é irretocável!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love Chelsea and I love this music, it fits the whole ambiance of the Bergamot cafe whilst munching a fruit tart!!!

Bravo man!
👍👍👍👏👏👏🎺🎺🎺

Yea, Caleb! Can you tell us a little about that horn you’re playing? Sweet.
GREAT !😀
Thank you for listening!
Bravo
Thank you for listening!
Msravilhoso! ! Neto. Brasil
Brasil too here but i m a trumpeter and a chivalrous knight
I don't think anybody here really knows how hard that is to play on Picc without a clam. That was amazing to hear and beautiful.
however it isn't perfect
I don't do this perfectly neither though
yeah it's hard, I never heard a perfect version
Excelent!
Wow that's a lot of work I don't even hav a herald picalo trumpet
une trompette de gloire
👏

I wonder if the key change had an effect on the general blend and was a purposeful musical choice...
I think it's easier to play high concert G on C picc than the dreaded A on Bb
Reinhold Friedrich plays it on C pic and that is (in my opinion) the best Brandenburg 2 ever been played. :-)
magiking96 I’ll look for that. He’s a trumpet god.
Looks like a Schilke C5-4C.
fantastic well done
megadeth
Thank you for listening!
im going to touch you
1967; Paul McCartney listens and… “Penny Lane…!”
It's that a Piccolo in F?
what type of trumpet he playing doe?
I think its called a Harold Trumpet but I'm not completely sure
Looks like a Schilke C5-4C.
It's a Yamaha 9910 C Piccolo

Is there a recording of all 3 movements?
Thanks so much for listening! At the moment, we don't have one... :(
Penny Lane etc
je suis injuste vous etes très bon Moi je suis incapable de le jouer vu mon age
bien caleb mais écoutez maurice andre en58 et vous verrez qu'il vous rest des progrés à faire
That was pretty good. Too bad the rest of the ensemble overpowers the piccolo trumpet solo.

😂😂
pas mal pour un amateur c'est pas maurice andre mais pas trop mal mais il y'a encore des progrès à faire il faut travailler
Please play a natural trumpet- the valved trumpet is so shrill! Also, please use baroque instruments - this is out of balance - no!
lol
Brilliant!
Thank you for listening!
