    I've been an avid Webflow user for years now as a designer. Just now understanding the power that is Wordpress as a developer. i've been trying to maximize WF design capabilities (unmatched in my humble opinion), with everything Wordpress has to offer in regards to plugins, ecommerce, APIs, etc. I think I've just found the key! Thanks for the great information.

    The question was asked about updating an existing theme. I would be interested in seeing a video of taking a old theme with existing content and updating it with a newly design theme from WF. Any chances of that? I have the opportunity to do that now but I am apprehensive as I do not want to cause any issues to the client existing site or data.

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey if I understand you correctly you client is using a non Udesly/Webflow theme and you want to update it? If so things done in front end/ page builders (i.e. elementor) will need to be manually carried over into Webflow. However post types and the content placed within the Wordpress content admin areas (i.e. product info) will. Hope that makes sense.

  • @kaihi178
    @kaihi178 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks so much; this video is way more in-depth than the ones on Udesly's channel. I have a question if you're able: how does transferring forms and search functions work between Webflow and WordPress using Udesly? Do you have to rebuild them in WordPress, or are they pretty much transferred seamlessly as well?

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you are using the default search functionality then this is transferred automatically and will use WordPress's built in search functionality.. This searches all post types across the site.. If however you only wanted to search products on a certain page Udesly provides a way of creating specialised search results and this can be found in the University documentation. Hope that helps.
      Cheers

    Thanks for the great video, any idea if the contact forms created in webflow would function the same way in Wordpress or would I need to replace them with contact form 7 or something similar? I like the way the contact forms behave a lot more in webflow compared to contact form 7 etc.. Any ideas regarding this would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance 😊

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there.
      There are two sides to this coin. Firstly Yes, the contact forms work and get converted over and are fully operational. However, if you have more advanced requirements, then the recommended approach would be to use a plugin to do the heavy lifting and then embed it with a shortcode.

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there.. simple just go back to Webflow make the amends and re-export.. and install the new theme. Tip if you keep the same theme name in the settings and just change the version number Wordpress should recognise that it’s a updated theme. Also for the headings, paragraphs, images, links etc if you don’t delete or change the binds on the existing elements then your changes made in Wordpress won’t get overwritten. Hope that helps

    I noticed at the end of the video (around 19:19) that when you went into a project page in WordPress all of the fields could be edited in the Gutenberg editor on the back end. How did this get set up in Webflow? Udlsey's documentation on adding attributes is less than clear. But it says that by adding acf:textarea it will show up in the Gutenberg area... so far no luck with that. Is there something that I'm missing? Awesome video!

    The whole Webflow pricing structure seems confusing to me.
    What exactly do I need to be able to build pages, mark something as CMS content so I can use Udesly to export it and make it dynamic in WordPress?
    From my understanding, I would need at least a Starter/Lite ACCOUNT plan, and then the CMS SITE plan. Is that correct?
    I'm looking into using Webflow, but it is important that I can add both static pages and CMS content on Webflow (but not manage it there, just being able to add it for Udesly to recognize it), is that possible with just a Starter/Lite plan and doing the hosting myself?

    Hey there! Thank you so much for these videos they are beyond helpful - I'm so excited about this workflow - I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but let's say I've uploaded the theme I've created in Webflow to Wordpress, and down the road I want to add a new page to the Wordpress site. How would I go about building that page? Does the Udesly front-end editor supply enough tools to do so? Or would you have to build it in Webflow and re-upload updated theme?

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Sam
      You can use Gutenberg blocks on a default page however the Udesly frontend editor only edits the existing page structure built within Webflow.
      So the best pipeline would be to update in Webflow and then upload a new theme with the page. As long as you don't delete or remove elements (headings, images, paragraphs, etc) or remove custom attribute bindings within Webflow then the Front-end editor will remember your changes made on WordPress so that when you upload a new theme all of your content changes on WordPress are not lost.

    This is great, thank you! How easy is it to updated the template? In a couple of months if had to make design updates to a site, would the data stay stored on the Wordpress and connect to a new template?

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Gabriel.. thanks and my pleasure. In terms of updating to a new theme it is a piece of cake.. basically the frontend editor stores any changes you make on Wordpress and then prioritises them when you install an updated theme.. It does so by storing the frontend editor data and links it via a unique identifier per each element.
      If needed you can delete the frontend data and re-import it if required.
      Now IF you were to say delete an object in Webflow and then recreate it this would be considered a "new object" so the data for THIS object would be imported when the updated theme is installed but all of the other elements would still reference the stored data and would be unaffected by the new data imported.
      Hope that makes sense and answers your question

  • @neoniquestudio
    @neoniquestudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey @AlternatePro,
    just came across your channel by accident, great content!
    Udesly seems to be awesome actually! Especially the fact that it´s creating custom acf-contenttypes automatically!
    I have 2 questions, if you have time ...
    1) How is Udesly handling blog-posts? In WF there is not really a "real/default" blog post-type - so I guess Udesly will create a new acf-posttype also for a "blog-collection", am I right? Or in other words: is there a way to use the native WP blog system but prepare everything for this already in WF within a collection? Because of course the WP blog system is more advanced, since this is the core WP functionality. So if a site has a blog, it would be weird to not use it.
    2) If I needed a more sophisticated custom post-type structure in WP, I was using the tools from Types.com in the past. This allows much more complexity than collections in WF. If I want to use this in the WF->Udesly->WP workflow, I guess I would create those elements static in WF and then make the dynamic manually in WP - but I would need to get access to the html level of each page (to be able to add shortcodes etc., create views, etc.) - is this possible? Or is there even another possibility which would make this more automatic/faster?
    Thanks so much! 🙏🏼
    Cheers and greetings to New Zealand, the most beautiful country on this planet! ;-)

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, man.
      The great thing about the Udesly pipeline is that you are only limited by your technical capability.
      It's great for beginners once you learn the ropes but it is very easy to extend the functionality with advanced techniques such as use php embeds, hooks, filters, plugins, etc.
      Many people who come to Udesly think it is a one-button press conversion tool and get a bit frustrated with the process due to this misunderstanding.
      My advice is to treat it like a visual coding / templating system and this is made easier by understanding the platform you are intending to use first so that you know how to build for it (even loosely).. it then makes the whole process much easier.
      To summarise you are building FOR WordPress not building for Webflow and hoping to convert it seamlessly (if that makes sense).
      In terms of your first question (if I am understanding correctly) the Udesly App translates all different CMS Collections either as different Custom Post Types or Custom Taxonomies, based on the CMS field structure, so every page that you can find inside the section CMS Collection Pages, will be converted as a single template or a taxonomy template. And you can use rich text fields to give you the ability to manage content via the standard WordPress content editors.
      I hope that helps answer your questions.

      Sorry, back then I totally missed your response! Many thanks for that!

Since comments are not supported natively in Webflow (which is odd, should be a core functionality for a blog I would think) I am not sure how to approach that ... 🤔

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi nope the animations come across perfectly.. if I was to say one thing that you are ‘losing’ is the ability to make micro changes quickly (I.e. opening a native page builder like elementor and tweaking some design aspect and the saving). with Udesly the process is slightly longer where you need to deploy the code tweaks across from webflow, run conversion and then replace what ever code(or republish a new version of the theme).. but then if you use GitHub you would gain version control. Hi, your best bet would be to rebuild it from scratch in WordPress IF you want to decouple the site completely from Webflow. If you try to do a hybrid site you are going to create headaches down the line.
      However, there is another option which is if you stick with the Webflow to WordPress process. The client can cancel their Webflow hosting plan and just maintain a Webflow account plan ($19 /mo) that allows them to export code (and the Udesly plugin cost - $99 per year).
      SO if your pipeline shifted to using Udesly then the clients cost (assuming you purchase Udesly for your agency) would be $19/mo, server hosting and whatever plugins they need. However the plugin requirements is greatly reduced as so much can be done natively through the Webflow process.
      You then get the best of both worlds. Webflows awesome builder and the flexibility of Wordpress. Hope that helps.

      @@AlternatePro Yeah this helps.. Thanks a lot.. Although not the response I hoped for, hehe. Was hoping there was a way to go around it, even if it means relinking and reassigning features, elements, etc... This is cause the client wants a total hand over of the site when completed.
      But thanks a lot for the response.

Udesly adapter is installed as well... I already tried re-installing the theme, same thing happens... Do I just go do something and come back later? Baha, no clue if I wait or did something wrong..

    • @AlternatePro

      Hi Christopher.. You may need to force the data to be reimported.. there is a Udesly button on the WordPress admin bar (at the top) click that and hit the "force import" option. I have just launched my latest tutorial and at the end of it I use this feature as I had the same issue as I had previously installed a theme.

      Hi there.. hard to tell without seeing the site. There is a a reimport feature which you can try. In the Wordpress admin look for the Udesly link in the banner that runs at the top and then click reimport data..
      Otherwise when converting the theme sometimes the Udesly app needs a page refresh if elements are missing from the design like css for example.

    can you modify the pages of the site on WordPress?

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there.. if you want to change copy and images then yes.. if you want to change the whole layout then unfortunately no .
      You are creating a hardcoded theme with this process which produces a faster theme that is less reliant on plugins . So technically easier to manage and less expensive but the trade off is that you don't have on-page design options like Elementor or Oxygen.
      But making changes to your theme in Webflow and then installing a new theme is a easy process and the frontend editor stores your changes so you don't have to worry about overwriting your work on WordPress when uploading a updated theme.

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi nope you don’t need a specific theme.. but you do have to configure it depending on what / how you are trying to complete.
      You are going to have to do some work to make the theme work in the destination platform and you will need to keep your webflow account / site in the event you want to update or change any major elements of the site.

  • @QLTEQ
    @QLTEQ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How expensive does this become?

    • @AlternatePro
      @AlternatePro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheaper than elementor and a boatload of plugins like crockoblock needed to create anything useful.
      Overall you will be paying for a light account plan on webflow ($16usd per month), Udesly, your hosting cost (I recommend cloudways) and whatever plug-ins you want to use.

    I’m not trying to be negative but I think you should stick to the Webflow to Shopify series.
    Most people leave WordPress for Webflow, what would be the point to convert WF to WP? I guess using the WP plugins maybe.
    Anyway, in my opinion, there are much more people interested in converting Webflow to Shopify (for ecommerce) rather than to WordPress (for plugins), including me.

      Hi guys thanks for the feedback and the idea is to try and help as many people as possible and eventually cover ALL of the supported CMS's .. the awesome thing that Udesly brings to the table that no other "page builder workflow" can bring is flexibility and that is a superpower for growing your agency and giving you choice when building for different clients with different requirments. As this channel evolves and grows I will be upping the number of videos per week which will cover the various CMS's.

      No offense but if it doesn't pertain to your situation why comment? There are plenty of reasons why clients use Wordpress as a CMS (it's a more advanced CMS than WF) so this would be the video for that situation.
