This is one of the better videos about playing guitar that I have seen in a while! I completely agree with you. It's not just guitar. This is great advice when it comes to learning how to do anything. If you try to force something, not only will you learn slowly but it more than likely will make you start to hate whatever it is you set out to get better at! Everyone learns differently. Until you realize what way you learn best, you will struggle to learn anything.
Enjoying the hell out of this lesson! This is such a great track and yet I've always had the sense Zep shied away from it as being part of their catalog. I just think it's got such a feel good vibe and groove. So glad to get to play it, thanks Sped!
Stoked for you Mathew. Maybe if the song had come earlier in their career it’d have had the time to frown on them? I think it’s really clever and fun to play.
Showing the C shape and the F shape Triad chords for the Outro riff helped me figure the part out and understand what and why it works. Can’t say thank you enough
Excellent lesson and great video as always Sped! I really appreciate the concise and accurate information you present regarding Zep tunes. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Keep that dry English humor coming! 😁Cheers from across the pond!
Only 5 minutes in, and this is why you are SOOOO much better than a LOT of the other guitar tutorial videos i have ever watched/learned from!!! i have ALWAYS heard that one extra chord pop in the main climbing riff and it threw me off!!!...(but occasionally i think Jimmy drops it, so that makes me crazy!!!...) Your teaching abilities, and putting in the extra touches, put you on the level of a guy named Michael Casswell, who was the most musical guitar instructor, of the vid company "Lick Library"... Sadly he has passed away, but i say "musical guitar instructor" because, while there are other more shredder/technical guys in that company, Michael explained the structure, and the supporting parts, that made up THE SONG!!!..not just licks... Well done lad, carry on...👍🎸
Ah thank you so much! I am not familiar with the late Michael Casswell. I will try to remember to check out some stuff online. I am so glad that you dig my style and I hope you have fun learning from my other vids too.
I like the section where you say."I've joined the band I can do what I want" that's the right attitude to have when learning music. It's nice to know the tune properly but music is about creativity and feeling. I really liked your take on the riff it sounds fun and fits well. First time watching your videos and I gotta say you are one worth our time watching. Thank you man.
Fantastic lesson! One suggestion…during the samba section instead of the first mute hit the C on the 6th string 8th fret. Also during the bouncy acoustic riff, instead of going to the B on the 3rd string, try this alternative: go an octave higher to the B on the 1st string 7th fret and descend using 6ths between the 1st and 3rd strings.
Great video Sped. Love the drum sound & groove on this song. Years ago I had two old pedals from mxr that I used with my bass. One was an envelope filter the other was called a blue box which actually gave me that exact octave sound that’s on that solo. Happy birthday mate. Best to you & Gab.
Thank you Joe! Yeah Bonzo is outstanding on this, when is he not though? Yeah that octave sound it sweet and fat. I tried to emulate it quickly for that riff after the solo. Just for the quick example. Hope you liked the video.

Great instruction. Drummer in my band can play the Bonham shuffle in that song like no one's business so we gonna jam this one out and see what we can make of it. I like that's it's all in triads, take me away from away just doing bar chords all the time.
I know what you mean about channeling Page. I have so many bootleg albums, watched so many vids of Page throughout his career, seen him live through the 80s 90s I almost ooze him when I play 😮. Of course I not a hangnail compared to him 😂. Love to emulate him on electric
Oh really? I honestly don't check them. I just go with my ear and a gut feeling. But like I said in the video, if the notes are right and it's played somewhere else on the neck then we're still making progress! This felt and sounded right to me though.
I'm a bit late to the party with this one but, hey, it's my band I can do what I want. I really like the way you modify the guitar part to make it more fun to play on your own, the vast majority of us out here are lone players without JPJ in the wardrobe waiting to pop out and play piano whenever it suits us. You really worked all this out in only two days?! You're even cleverer than I thought. This is such a good tune, happy and upbeat and possibly my favourite drum rhythm of all. Must try and work out a passable version to play on cajon.
Getting ready to cover this. You have awesome explanations of these Zep songs and I think your Black Dog solo was the definitive reference for that, the right notes, bends, feel, and best positions. This lesson is equally useful. The talk of the "sneaky Am" threw me off though. I see that as an FMAJ7. I see the progression as straight up the chord scale... C-Dm7-Em7-FMAJ7-G. The FMAJ7 eliminates the need to throw a "sneaky Am" in there. It makes this elementary in every part (including the single note line choices). The main chord riff works on the 2-3-4 strings or on the 1-2-3 strings (which novice players might find easier because you can just lay your fingers across the 5th fret 1-2-3 for the FMAJ7). Btw, don't put me in the category of nitpicking commenter. I am just sharing my thoughts (as you asked). The second section was super helpful. The mod you made is a good one, especially for playing this without keys as I am about to do. The "Samba Section", I think is better played with an open C, and then F and G on the 1-2-3-4 strings (1st and 3rd frets respectively), and again allowing for the FMAJ7 to be played from (or before) that G by quickly barring the 1-2-3 strings on the 5th fret. Also, the fuller chords fill up the "Bamba Section" better and especially building back to the main riff. The single note licks you worked out are also awesome and helpful. Thanks again. Rock on.
A really underrated song. Thanks for this brilliant lesson, Sped. With practice I have managed to incorporate the am inversion into the main riff. Cheers 🤟🏼

This would have been while I was driving a route in 2013 or so.I was shocked at first, but then, Pagey is a gifted musical thief!
I wonder if the first three chords are not C Dm Em (raise the 5th a whole tone on the F and G triads) .... I played them along with the recording and sounded right to me but not sure. The Am triad is a nice subtlety I had not noticed. Thank you. Keep up the Zep...
