My Honda Civic looks better than It ever has! Absolutely amazing work on the car and of course this vid!. Love You guys and Thanks Again! to the whole team at Chicago Auto Pros
Another CTR with a killer ceramic coating! The car looks great. I agree with you Honda Pro Jason. Phoenix Yellow should have been an original color. Thanks Jason for explaining the coating process. Super informative
Really good instructions in applying the coating. I find it a bit funny in that you (and we) say that our first towel is wiping off the coating. We are wiping off the carrier fluid hopefully as the coating hopefully is bonding and only a minor amount in the carrier.
Very good video because it's very different seeing someone do it that isn't a pro like we are usually accustom to ... We think it's just go boom on panel but there are plenty of little things that add up ...
So ceramic doesn’t even protect against swirl marks? The swirls are cut straight through the ceramic? I’m confused cause I thought the thin layer or ceramic would hold the light touched swirls,
I love your content. I’m opening up a shop in Florida and I wanted to know if you could help me out with a few things I still need help. For example a good spot free rinse system for my shop. I appreciate your help!
I never quite understood paint meters and how they are useful. They can’t measure how much clearcoat which is the only measurement you need to know. 15mils of original paint and new paint but how many mils of the top coat clearcoat over the yellow? Nonetheless great job!
You can ballpark the clearcoat by comparing the panels thickness with the door jambs. Manufacturers and repair shops usually save clearcoat in these areas since it doesn’t need as much protection. If you have 100 microns on the panels and 70 microns in the door jambs, you know how much room you have to work.
Nah you gotta toss them or use them for lesser jobs, definitely do not use that on paint again. Even after washing there’s chances the ceramic has hardened in the towel and you’ll be scratching the life out your hard work
So you polished off the original coating, not just removing the swirls from it, but removed it completely? Is it not possible to polish out light scratches/swirls from the original coating without removing it? If so, that would be way more cost effective than stripping and reapplying...especially if the original coating is still performing well.
As a detailer and consumer PPF's are always nice to have but are expensive. It really is up to the person if they want to spend the extra money to get a PPF. The last few I did were for customers that were taking nicer cars to the track and were going to get beat on. PPF and coating them. The way PPF is designed you barely know its there.
After owning a car fully wrapped in PPF, I probably won't ever own another vehicle that isn't fully wrapped (unless it's a beater or already chipped up). Yes, the cost is substantial. $5k+ is a lot to swallow when you're buying a new car for ~$50k. But for someone like me who is pretty OCD, the peace of mind is worth every dollar spent.
so the swirl marks were on the ceramic coating not on the clear coat? when you polished the car you removed only the ceramic coating or was clear coat also removed? Trying to understand if the ceramic coat is truly a "sacrificial layer" then none of the swirls should have reached the clear coat correct?
They removed just the ceramic coating. The clear coat is a part of the paint. And you are correct, none of the swirls should have been on the paint itself...which has me wondering why the ceramic coat couldn't have just been repaired with a light polish.
Ceramic coating is not measurable by a paint thickness gauge. On a microscopic level it is much thicker than a wax or sealant. Most likely the ceramic coating took the brunt of the swirling but thickness of the layer of ceramic coating is nowhere near the thickness of the clear coat. We still removed clear coat but probably not as much with the ceramic coating on the car. Hope that makes sense.
great video. i actually dont understand why the owner got so much crap when he explained what he did to the car. maybe i understood what hes trying to do and mainly people who got mad didnt understand enough???? but yea the car is awesome and the CF roof is legit.
In place of re-applying a new ceramic coating, based on how the paint looks and black trim, would it make more sense and save the customer some $$, and to try a ceramic coating polish that should be able to correct all these marks without applying a new coating, such as Carpro Essense Plus, designed for ceramic coated vehicles without going to the expense of a new coating, or perhaps the swirl marks are too deep that require polishing and re-application of a new coating?
So if this car is a repaint, then there is no reference point to determine the amount of clear coat, only the total paint depth. Not that would be a worry, but it’s wise to know the painter to find out how much clear was put on and how much sanding was done in finishing. With that being said, could a DeFelsco 200-B be used to measure 3 layers on the plastic bumper to determine the actual amount of clear? Of course only if the plastic was painted and finished equal to the rest of the car?
My thoughts exactly. The title implies they're just removing swirls from the ceramic coat, not completely removing the ceramic coat. If the original coating still works, why can't it just be corrected with a light polish? Removing a ceramic coat isn't easy...
It's not tho, they removed the scratches from the previous coating by polishing. Anything that the DA polisher touches will essentially remove, even ceramic coatings. You cant get away with removijg moderate swirls on a coated car without removing the coating as well.
Worst thing you could do is show someone their swirl marks. Normal people don’t notice this, and most of the time it doesn’t bother them. Now, look what you’ve done. Jason, you’re screwed for life. Welcome to OCD.
My name is Sasikumar. I live in India (keralam). I have been working in the detailing industry for the last 19 years. ceramic, Graphene, interior cleaning, Headlight restore etc. Can you give me a job if your company has a vacancy? I'm a big family. Also, there are some debts that the family has. So please help me.

Awesome looking car, you visited one of the best in the industry. CAP always delivers top notch work 👍
Fantastic car and the coating being used is insane
thank you

Thanks for watching!
HondaPro, we love a short king 👑🤟🏼👍🏼🔥🔥🔥
Really cool Honda that looks great going around the track. Jason put on a master class in applying a coating. Thank you for the video.

man, i have been watching detailers on youtube but this is another level!
Love the way they go with you every step of the way and explain everything to you and to help you understand everything, very very good video thanzks
That Fiesta ST in the background 😎
Bah! Ford!
You picked the right place to have your car coated fantastic job looks so nice 👍🏻👌🏻🇨🇦
Very good video because it's very different seeing someone do it that isn't a pro like we are usually accustom to ... We think it's just go boom on panel but there are plenty of little things that add up ...
i agree and I also learned a ton from them
Any idea what the original ceramic was?
So ceramic doesn’t even protect against swirl marks? The swirls are cut straight through the ceramic? I’m confused cause I thought the thin layer or ceramic would hold the light touched swirls,

I love thumbnail lol
Love your guys videos. You don't hide anything.
So a ppc can take a ceramic coating off
Which coating is it i mean brand

@@akrdetailing2694 nice
Would you recommend not to park under sunny condition? And what if it rains while im driving during the first two weeks after coating?
Great job
Really cool video and super fresh Civic!
The microfiber towel that had been used to buff the coating can be rewash and reused or its need to be dispose ?
Nah you gotta toss them or use them for lesser jobs, definitely do not use that on paint again. Even after washing there’s chances the ceramic has hardened in the towel and you’ll be scratching the life out your hard work
Looks awesome, great work.
Thanks! 💙
Using the coarse wool and compound finished up good enough to eliminate a second step? If so very impressive
Who is the guy with the white tee?
thats me
Nice car and nice job :)
What polish did you use?
What coating did it have prior ?
CQuarts finest
When it comes to the pad does it have to be wet or dry when applying it with the coating?

Is it not possible to polish out light scratches/swirls from the original coating without removing it? Any idea what the original ceramic coating was? Was it also CSU? Lasting 4 years with that kind of abuse is pretty impressive for most products.
Question: For a car like that would you recommend getting PPF to further protect it against those love marks?
As a detailer and consumer PPF's are always nice to have but are expensive. It really is up to the person if they want to spend the extra money to get a PPF. The last few I did were for customers that were taking nicer cars to the track and were going to get beat on. PPF and coating them. The way PPF is designed you barely know its there.

So PPF would have prevented the swirl marks? I need to know!
Most likely yes.
Man I really want one of those badly... I'm about to break my own rules and go into debt for it.. lol
why not just wrap it with PPF ?
so the swirl marks were on the ceramic coating not on the clear coat? when you polished the car you removed only the ceramic coating or was clear coat also removed? Trying to understand if the ceramic coat is truly a "sacrificial layer" then none of the swirls should have reached the clear coat correct?

What ratio of ISA to distilled water do you use for post-polish prep?
No fucking way..I got to see the limited Phoenix yellow
Does this one have the electric motors on it for AWD?
It did for a short time. It was for SEMA but has since been removed
Would having the vehicle PPF’d have help this? As you said - this is not a normal owner such as myself but I’d notice the swirls and diminished shine.
yes, most PPF brands are self healing now as well. however there are even some self healing ceramic coatings out there too
Nice! The car was 1-stepped with blue wool and blue compound? Must have been hard paint.
It was on hard side and the RUPES compounds finish really well.
Thumbnail looks like Jason is squatting his car lol
if he has the money to repaint the entire vehicle, he should get PPF on the entire vehicle
great video. i actually dont understand why the owner got so much crap when he explained what he did to the car. maybe i understood what hes trying to do and mainly people who got mad didnt understand enough???? but yea the car is awesome and the CF roof is legit.
Just because the car was so new and he was tearing it all apart.
If my math is right, 4 years ago to now, washed over thousands and thousands of times. That is equals to 1-2 washes per day.
Only way to remove swirl marks or any other defect is to polish and any polishing will remove the coating.
Would Carpro Essence Pro have taken the light love marks away and not required a New Ceramic Coating application?
Nope, any polishing and you’re coating is gone.
👌🏽
So if this car is a repaint, then there is no reference point to determine the amount of clear coat, only the total paint depth. What u wont do 4 love
thousands of times??? what year is this.... thats literally multiple washes a day...
he had to be a little pissed when he went thru all that trouble of getting it painted and then they started making it in yellow anyways
Yeah but several years later
This dude is a little extra….washed “thousands” of times?
In 4 years too… 😂
Nose pero el titulo del reportaje está mal . Fue un trabajo completamente Nuevo
My thoughts exactly. The title implies they're just removing swirls from the ceramic coat, not completely removing the ceramic coat. If the original coating still works, why can't it just be corrected with a light polish? Removing a ceramic coat isn't easy...
The title is totally misleading. You’re not removing scratches from the ceramic coating, you’re removing the ceramic coating and re-COATING
It's not tho, they removed the scratches from the previous coating by polishing. Anything that the DA polisher touches will essentially remove, even ceramic coatings. You cant get away with removijg moderate swirls on a coated car without removing the coating as well.
The title says "on a ceramic coated vehicle" not "from the ceramic coating".
Worst thing you could do is show someone their swirl marks. Normal people don’t notice this, and most of the time it doesn’t bother them. Now, look what you’ve done. Jason, you’re screwed for life. Welcome to OCD.
