    A great benefit of pellets is that they will fit between the gaps in the grate! therefore you can add more wood without pulling the grate!

    Good video overall, however, the sound effects are annoying. I'll have to try this method using the pellets- good idea !

    Just a note on pellets: don't se the heating pellets as they often include strange sources of wood like wooden floors and old 2x4s etc. Only use cooking/smoking grade pellets. Also some manufacturers use oils to scent their pellets and they are not as good as ones that just use the proper sawdust.
    I have had good luck in my vertical smoker with the PitBoss Brand you used in the video.

      100 percent agree! The heating type will have demo debris and junk in them.

    I just tried this in my charbroil big easy infrared gas grill before I saw your video and I was totally impressed with the flavor. I might never go back to wood chips. I use Kingsford hickory, oak, and cherry blend on baby back ribs.

    Thanks for this as it’s REALLY great and helpful advice - just bought myself four different flavoured sacks of pellets (similar to the one in your vid) and can’t wait to try them out.

    Thank you for the research. I have been toying with this idea. I picked up a "smoke tube" that is said to give up to 5 hours of smoke. I haven't gotten there yet. I'm thinking the qualifier is "up to." Thanks again!

    You safe me some money and time for sure. I have a small Traeger smoker and still have a big bag of pellets. I just bought a Kamoto Joe Classic and I want to smoke some ribs but had no wood. Good thing I check out if I can use the pellets, thanks.

    Lately I have been getting very small wood chunks from my local store. My son wants pulled pork tomorrow. Don’t think those small chunks will work well for a long cook. Bought a bag of pellets and I going to roll with your method tomorrow.

    Thanks very much for this video. I’d just bought a bag of these pellets by mistake thinking they were regular wood chips & was worried that they wouldn’t work on the Big Green Egg when I got home & realised what I’d done. I’m very happy that you had a successful cook & Im going to go ahead & cook with confidence that the results will be awesome. Thanks again. 👍🏽

    I did buy pellets for my smoker box to use on my gas grill but now that I have purchased a Dyna Glow offset vertical smoker I was going to use them, but then I keep hearing about clean smoke versus dirty smoke. Isn't the whole purpose of smoking to get that smoky flavor in your meats? I bought wood chunks and they caught fire like they should and as soon as I closed the firebox door the flame dies down and they begin to smoke and smolder. It could be a problem with my chimney being to restrictive because I feel I have enough of an opening in my firebox vent to draw in air but maybe not enough draw through the chimney. Either way I'm going to try the pellets. Like I said before, I was going to try it but now that I've seen your results, it's a go.
    Thank You for posting this video.

    • @BackdraftBBQ
      @BackdraftBBQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think there is more variety in what you can buy for wood pellets right now, than chunks of wood, and from that side it is better. But, as far as ease and the level of smoke you can get out of them, PASS THE PELLETS, PLEASE!!!

    Great review thanks! Would this work on a offset smoker or would wood chips or chunks be best for that?
    My grandfather purchased a wood smoker a few years back he used it once then passed away unfortunately months later. I had no idea he had one until I visited my grandmothers this past weekend and saw it rusting away in the backyard. Long story short I’m going to try and restore it this weekend and test it out.
    Unfortunately it is a very cheap smoker but either way I figured I’d give it a go.

      Yes they would, you can use them in place of wood chips or chunks. Have fun experimenting!

    Seems the pellets create what most would call a dirty smoke, giving the meat a bitter taste. I'll have to try it sometime and learn for myself. Thanks for posting.

    • @BackdraftBBQ

      NEVER - if you soak wood pellets they turn to sawdust. Just put them right on the coals, it will work great!

      On bags of charcoal, it also does the same, smoking, and grilling meat contains carcinogens

    Just discovered your videos. I usually soak my wood chips before the cook. Have you done that with wood chips or chunk before?

    • @BackdraftBBQ
      @BackdraftBBQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it makes them last a tiny bit longer, but with a BGE it's not the same as with a stick burner (where you have to soak). That is one of the reasons I tried the pellets, I may never go back! Stay safe out there!
