Stanier cant be replaced by ANY drummer ever. His tight snaredrum + Bogdan's bass was epic. The "Stop'n go" riffs have influenced so many bands. Hamiltons voice is a bit too clean compared to the studio recordings.. The 'Meantime' album is an all time classic!!
that bass is a masterclass in DIRT tone, it's like every tour they played, the bass got more guttural and Stanier's cymbal stands got higher, bless up.
I just saw them open for KoRn a few months ago and they are surprisingly still sounding really good these days, even though Page is now in his younger 60s!
@@LeadMe2TheBliss Saw them yesterday. Heavy as hell!! Page is still killing it. Stanier got out of Helmet, but the cymbals are still getting higher haha
I saw this tour at Nottingham Rock City basement room. No support. Just them in a packed small room - it was fucking phenomenal. By the end Stanier was almost collapsing, a roadie was holding him up. The sweat was dripping off the cieling and walls. They were off the scale. So glad I was there...
That year at Hultsfredsfestivalen was one of the best. RATM the day before was epic. The story is that we, the audience, jumped so much that it showed on the Richterscale. :)
I don't know what Hamilton did to Bogdan & Stanier, but goddamn. I wish they'd forgive him! Or I don't know, bury the hatchet for a reunion tour. I know the songs are mainly all Page's, but um, John Stanier became one of my top 10 favourite drummers of all time when I heard Helmet. The Deftones didn't even exist to me. Helmet was where it was at. And Bogdan & Stanier are so much of Helmet's sound, that I do listen to new Helmet material, but it's just not the same. AND I'M A FAN OF YES!! THEY'VE CHANGED MEMBERS LIKE UNDERWEAR! It just isn't the same band, even with Page being a riff king, a great lyric writer, and its creative force. It's just not the same. THIS WAS GOLD.
Yeah man I've been on a huge helmet kick and I just read a quote that page said.... "They were a good band and they played my songs well but I could have done it without them." Which is insanely disrespectful and dismissive of John and Henry. I have a band myself and I can play guitar, bass, and drums but have chosen the role as drummer and want to be like our boy John here and carry some dudes that want to lay down some heavy riffs and beefy tracks but it sucks when the guitar player really thinks he's that important compared to the band.... it's like man... no. Not even close. Like you said and I agree with, Helmet without John and Henry should be called something else. My little band kind of has a similar theme and rift happening where our guitarist seems to believe that quote as well. Either way
I was so fortunate enough to see them during this tour for aftertaste. Cuz I didn't see him during meantime or Betty which is my favorite album by them. This was when helmet was helmet with Henry Bogdan on bass and John stainer on drums. I'm not too sure which rhythm guitar since was with them. But God damn they were good back then. When Betty came out they were my favorite band. I miss Henry Bogdan and stainer but stainer been with tomahawk and now he's with that band 'battles'! Which is some really interesting stuff
Sounded like Page Hamilton had a cold or something. The chorus of Unsung was pretty rough. First band I ever saw live, opening for Primus at the Fox in Atlanta
I guess it might be because of not quiet proper technique and loud singing through the whole show + he sometimes slides on the pitch not hitting the right notes due to lack of in-ear monitoring which makes it really difficult to hear what is actually going on with the sound from the band on the stage
This is the most underrated band of (it's) time....While Butt Butt bands with a ONE song catchy sound make waves for days and years and it was not even real meat like this.... I use to say that this band is called Helmet because you pretty much had to have a helmet on during the concert.... Good God)*#)*%& Watch out!

Yup jon stanier is no doubt probably the best time keeping drummer EVER. Check out his weird brainchild "battles" even his homie mike patton thinks battles is weird shit
Funny, a lot of the Helmet fans I know somehow never really knew about Battles and Stanier's involvement- they assumed he stopped after Tomahawk' first run and an occasional TMOC project. Battles is the shit, even they appear to be down to a duo currently. Many tales abound regarding his cymbal height as it ascended over the years lol.
I’m getting ready to get my cherry popped for the first time seeing them. I’m soooo stoked. Omg!!!!!!! I hope they still sound this good. They sound AMAZING! Their sound tech for this? He’s a God!!!!
oHHHH MAN,... Thanks for bringing back the memories of seeing Hemet play at "the old" 9:30 in Washington DC in the mid-1990's!!! I still say Helmet would aways put on the best live performances of that era!
Well he doesn't have any in-ear monitoring though he sings the same way all the time :)) It's one of the reasons imho why Helmet never became massively popular - it's painful to listen to their lives. Great energy and shitty vocals. With all respect to Page.
I had you guys for three concerts this year. Sunstroke- outside Dublin, Hellfest- somewhere in France and in Jersey. The only song this needed was my divorce sing @ExactlyWhatyouwanted Along with this great version of TIC & Birth defect Here's to 2021 and being to be together at such events

I was thinking th same. Th snare and bass sound lit!! 👍🏽
I’ve seen them three times and the sound was amazing every time! One of the best live bands that you can still see
yes. Rare for 1997. I like that snare sound. you never hear it nowadays, everthing is compressed on albums
Stanier’s snare sound is all stanier. No one pops quite as hard

Love Helmet. Even til this day at 40 yrs of age. Nothing like listening to some good old metal. John Steiner is god on a standard kit

Playing the hi-hat from behind his shoulder and smashing up a simple 5 kit like a boss.
These guys sound so much better live than they do on the studio versions.
They don't have some big shot producer hovering around making $500 an hour trying to make him sound like Ozzy Osbourne's band that's why
