"This is a preliminary, temporary version, once I'll get the dual 960s we can attempt to do a better rendition - but for now we hope you enjoy the video".
Thank you, actually Moroder said that the bass drum is a real bass drum (and it sounds indeed like a real bass drum), i.e. coming from a guy playing the kick pedal for 8 minutes. I mentioned that at 2:47 and I don't yet have the dual sequencers to set all this up, although I could have played the bass drum live.
th-cam.com/video/u00wDqSiCnk/w-d-xo.html here's a link to a bbc 40 years i feel love special and at 28.30 he said that every sound came from a moog modular
He meant every sound, but minus the bass drum. The bass drum was drummer Keith Forsey. From this interview: davo mcconville (Noisey): "You made every drum sound on it too?" Giorgio Moroder: "The drums was all except the bass drum. Because the Moog couldn’t give me a punch sound, it would give me “oomph” instead of “dum." So that was the only thing, and that was Keith Forsey." Listen to it. It's a real bass drum. Also, he said he used a polyphonic Italian synth, which is probably the Solina-esque parts: "Then, actually for that one I think I used one of the Italian synthesisers, which had already polyphonic stuff. In the beginning, at least, I think I used that. But the rest was all from the Moog." Source: noisey.vice.com/en_us/article/rz77j6/how-we-made-giorgio-moroder-on-i-feel-love

I don't think I'll ever have kids, but I can't imagine a more wholesome activity than to crank out some mad electronic jams with the kids and a fuck ton of modular and vintage equipment. Also, it's great seeing something like this. A year or so back, I got to see Giorgio Moroder do a DJ set and it was super inspiring hearing I Feel Love during a set from the man himself.

Could you do some Brad Fiedel Terminator 1 stuff with your Oberheim Ob-Xa, Prophet, Emulator, Linn Drum and DMX? That's the official list of what he used. Prophet was a 10. You have a 5?
I would love to - have all the gear but at the moment I don't have a Prophet-5, because I'm looking for a rev 2 (I've had several rev 3s in the past). Once I get a rev 2 I'll make a video, thank you

I have been and still am a huge Donna Summer fan from age 10 to current age of 54. What I can say from what I just heard it was one of the best versions of I Feel Love despite being short on some instruments and it was just as hypnotic just needed Donna Summer's Great Voice on it. If you ever plan on releasing it I would be really happy and grateful for it. Great Job!
Hard to believe this revolutionary song is 40 years old. I still remember the very first time I heard it back then and thought "WOW!" and it still sounds the same to this day.

Nice video! You've inspired me to try a version using my Motif ES and Krome to emulate this and see how close I can get that way. It won't be as good as your way of course. Great to see a father and daughter having a shared hobby and creating something together. 👍
Nice tutorial. Thanks Paolo. I understood you were Italian immediatly because of the coffee... before you were speaking Italian with your daughter... :-D . My first synth when I was 15 years old was a monophonic (I don't remember the brand). Then I had the Korg Poly 800 (there was a reversing EG envelope feature that was great). I still have a Roland D-50, but when I play now I use a Microkorg and a Novation Ultranova (plus a Yamaha stage Piano and a Yamaha PSR-S950). Microkorg is easy to program, while Ultranova is more complicate because you have to navigate in too many menus, but it has very useful live morphing tools with the knobs.
Paolo I don't suppose you could show how Jean Michel Jarre did that quirky bass line on Equinoxe 6 & 7, I've tried myself to recreate it but never quite get there. It seems to use a couple of 32nd notes with slide and modulation.
The vibrato bass is an fast ADSR-controlled LFO on pitch. Modulation depth change is controlled by ADSR triggered from a sequencer on the note start at the same time as normal note ADSR. On a modular synth, you connect sequencer to both ADSR triggers, one ADSR to gain, the other to LFO modulation depth, set LFO to sine, I think 12 Hz and about 1 whole tone depth, connect LFO to pitch modulation control. The base sound is a square wave filtered by a resonant filter.
Ahahahahh, great stuff getting the kids involved. Really cute! You have the most amazing amount of hardware and I love your videos. Keep them coming :D

You will NEVER get a sound like THAT using a software synth! Most hardware synths can't get the sound of a modular system that impressive either! Even on YT that bass sounds amazing!
Said by Giorgio himself, bass drum was the only human played sound used in " I feel love". In fact, he used to record a human drum line alone to use it after in future songs. See "Evolution" and songs of "E=mc2".
Cool video, great cover of the bassline, great presentation, nice assistant with a great name (and it's cool your daughter knows the studio gear). Cool to know the notes of the bass line and the chords. I feel inspired. :) Now I only have to check out how to program the arpegiattor on my Nord Lead 4. ;D
Nice to see you are including your kids into the world of synths :) I have tried this with my son (16), but he wants to play guitar (traitor..lol) My gear seems like black magic to him :(
I hate to make a off-topic comment but... Just listening speaking Italian to your daughter makes me want to keep on doing the same with my kids. They're going to thank us old parents in a couple of years.
Just found this video while searching for ideas on how this bass was made. I managed to get quite close with my MS20. I don’t have a Solina, but I think I’m going to try to see if the miniKorg can do something similar as that sound.
Great video as always. You're acutually the first person/youtuber I follow - each and every video! Wonder how you do what no one else have managed to do?? Honesty, synth's and that european connection perhaps 😊 Nice addition with your daughter. If she sings - put her on some tracks 😊 Great job

I slowly like software synths but man it just can't beat hardware sitting in front modular patch to create you're sound. Seventies man so many golden song.
See "Evolution" and songs of "E=mc2".
complimenti per i video veramente eccezzionali e anche per il tecnico del suono
I have sold my Space Echo 201 for 200 eur some years ago, would I cut my hands now.
Beautiful mix engineer, I feel love bass line technique
Gran video, complimento!
Turn on automatic captions and it translates the bassline as "I don't know"! 😄
That was very nice. I have always liked this song. I always wondered how they created that part. That was nicely done.
Cool video, great cover of the bassline, great presentation, nice assistant with a great name (and it's cool your daughter knows the studio gear). Cool to know the notes of the bass line and the chords. I feel inspired. :) Now I only have to check out how to program the arpegiattor on my Nord Lead 4. ;D
Nice to see you are including your kids into the world of synths :)
I have tried this with my son (16), but he wants to play guitar (traitor..lol)
My gear seems like black magic to him :(
bob frode get him into both dude. Guitar is a great thing to learn :)
Man that sounds great!
Excellent ! Great Job !
Thank you!
Great video as always. You're acutually the first person/youtuber I follow - each and every video! Wonder how you do what no one else have managed to do?? Honesty, synth's and that european connection perhaps 😊 Nice addition with your daughter. If she sings - put her on some tracks 😊 Great job
Hey, thanks! Yeah, I'm just trying to be real, here- and share whatever music experience I've accumulated over the years. Thanks for watching!
