「浮世絵ができるまで ～摺りの工程～」Ukiyo-e from A to Z: The Printing Process of Japanese Woodblock Prints

日本が世界に誇る浮世絵版画。 しかし、その制作工程はあまり知られていないのかもしれません。
「The Great Wave」として世界的に有名な、葛飾北斎（1760～1849）の「冨嶽三十六景・神奈川沖浪裏」。 この作品は絵師が筆で描く肉筆画ではなく、多色摺りの木版画です。 絵師である北斎が下絵を描き、それをもとに版を彫る彫師、複数の版から紙に絵を摺る摺師といった職人達の高い技術によって完成しました。
この動画では、「摺り」の工程をとりあげます。 浮世絵版画の驚くほど精巧な技術は、現在まで日本で受け継がれています。

The ukiyo-e prints are known throughout the world. However, few people are familiar with how these prints were made.
Hokusai’s The Great Wave may resemble a painting, but is in fact a multicolor woodblock print. Ukiyo-e artists like Hokusai made sketches and handed them to a skilled carver to create the blocks used to print them. When the blocks were ready, they were taken to a printer, who used them to create multiple woodblock prints.
This video introduces the printing process of Japanese woodblock prints (ukiyo-e).
The accomplished craftsmanship of ukiyo-e woodblock prints continues to this day in Japan.
