My 12 year old son Ruben and I met Mr. Matt yesterday at the 2020 NRHA Derby in Oklahoma City as we were driving through the parking lot and he was walking out of one of the barns. I could not believe it was him, but I stopped the car , rolled down the window and asked him “ are you Matt Mills, to which he answered, yes I am”. I was so excited just to be in the presence of a legend that I asked him if we could take a picture with him, he is just as humble in person as he is on You Tube and took a few minutes out of his day to talk to us and take some pictures with us. My son was so excited to have met him that he hasn’t stopped talking about Mr. Matt. After seeing his run this morning and scoring an impressive 219.5 all my son talks about is wanting to get home and get to work with our horse. Thank You so much Sir for taking the time to talk to us. You have made 2 new fans. We will be praying that you do extremely well the rest of the week, God Bless.
My pleasure Ruben. I’m so glad you stopped me! Creating more fans of horses and our sport means SO much to me! Please email Me your address at millstraining@aol.com
Matt, one thing that really stands out about your horses... they are so quiet! You can see the time put into each horse. I can only aspire to be as good as you (and your team) excellent example of a great horseman, showman and human. Thank you 💜
absolutely beautiful and stunning quarter horses 😍(they are by far my favorite breed)but I have a heart for all horses, and the quiet communication that you have with your horses is exceptional, I realize that your horses are "performance and show horses," but their demeanor is that of a "pleasure horse," which is truly amazing. It's definitely not difficult to tell that you genuinely love and care for them. I had horses growing up, and my favorite way to ride was always bare back, and I used to love to take them swimming 🤗 keep up the beautiful work with your horses and your team, the quality shines through ❤
This video ramndomly came up on my youtube feed, I'm so glad! I'm going to watch more of your videos and hope to see some great rides. Good luck to you on your upcoming events! What a fantastic facility you have!
Hi again MATT Really nice lineup! Your preparation and forward thinking is so stellar with you. Can only imagine well deserved success... Thx for the overview of the six. Very much enjoy your detailed overviews of each. Keep on keeping on and catcha next go around...
The horses are beyond beautiful! And they all seem calm. I notice a lot of show horses look nervous and upset. These horses almost look like there ready for a nap! Love them all. Great job. What is the average price for one of the horses?
Hopefully TLC is filming and keeping track... We will see you at South Pointe! Lizzie West Bath and Body and Motor City Slime :) hopefully the closer will get off the stage as the promised 11 pm. See you soon at TRM
@@mattmillsreining1 Amanda didn't email me or anything what's a good thing thank goodness for TH-cam never mind about the vendors on the floor who support the show!! Wow that's just very disappointing.
You know the kind of video I would like to see...is for you to talk about your various horses there and their breeding and the tendencies you see because of their breeding and maybe the lines you like best.
Man I look up to you. I dont really know about reining or what im looking at but it’s cool. Do have you clinics or 1 on 1s using one of your horses? I’ll definitely pay for something like that.
I appreciate you! Glad you like it. I don’t offer that service at this time because I’m in the road competing so much! I do have a video subscription on my website. Mattmillsreining.com. I’d love for you to check it out!
You are one of my biggest idols! Do you have any tips on how to get my horse to get a good stop. He is just know learning what whoa means. I would really appreciate it if you could help! 😊
Thanks for watching! Will try to get a Tip of The Week sometime for you. Have you been on my website? Hundreds of tutorials videos on EVERYTHING!! Matt Millstraining.com
Interested to know the reasoning as to why Jessie is not shod in front? I realize that you have fantastic footing in your arena and “walker” areas, and of course the stalls. I am an old lady “Curiosity killed the cat” type!
Great question! So kind of on the lines if it’s not broke, don’t fix! Barefoot allows the horse to naturally keep their hooves even. Also as a bonus with reining horses there is no risk of pulling front shoes off in the sliding stop. AND lol, your farrier Bill is a small bit lower
Is there any live streaming channel, like nrha futurity OKC, where we can watch the show? Where I live there is no access to any TV channel that shows reining competition.
How much would you charge to buy this horse once it’s trained just interested because I’m in Australia and wondering for the difference we charge here?
How do you teach them to slide because I have a two year old stud colt out of a son of shining spark and suzana sparkle and a granddaughter of Smokeys gray and two eyed red buck and we are looking to show it but I just need some tip for sliding
That takes more than I can answer here in one comment! Checkout my video subscription on my website ! Lots of videos on there that should help you! Mattmillsreining.com
Matt, is it okay if I share your videos (not all!) with my facebook friends (share on facebook). I know many would love to see them and perhaps subscribe. TIA! Most of us ride pleasure/all around horses, but we LOVE reining!
Yes they do at times. Typically early in their training. We use bell boots on those. A lot of ours don’t have front shoes so it’s not as big of a deal. Some older ones I don’t use bell boots all the time because they get “ scratches “ out here in our climate and the boots irritate them. Have to kind balance the risk/ reward with that
I don’t. I do teach them how to give to pressure. When a horse is relaxed it will carry it’s head in its natural position. We try to pick horses that’s conformation has them set up to be parallel with the ground. Not all of them do this and that’s ok too
Have you looked at my other vids? Pretty sure I’ve got some! 😎. Let me know if not and what you’re looking to see! 〽️🤙🏾. Also checkout mattmillsreining.com
A lot of these men are too big for their quarters in resigning. Always noticed that. They need taller quarters in competing. Thats a flaw in what they do and a lot of weight and counter balance for their horses to endure. Its practical as to eiding and riders whom are suppose to know better. I folliw Rick Gore and he certainly brings up issues like this. All folks do on this clear truth is complaining then giving valuable facts. This is the law of common sense in psychics. Horses caring the percentage majority of their weight on their front forelegs.
My coach is going to show in that NRHADerby her name is Lauren King if you see her there can you please tell her that room Derby her name is Lauren King if you see her there can you please tell her that rivSays hello that’s so cool
LOL! Nerves are a part of competition in every sport. Without them it wouldn’t interest me! It’s just learning to channel that energy into the moment! Takes a lot of practice ! 🤙🏾💯〽️

We do everything we can do keep them happy! Average price? That’s tough. I’d say 10K - 200K
Hopefully TLC is filming and keeping track... We will see you at South Pointe! Lizzie West Bath and Body and Motor City Slime :) hopefully the closer will get off the stage as the promised 11 pm. See you soon at TRM
Unfortunately they had to postpone TRFAM and TLC til 2021. It should be bigger than last year!!! 💪🏾💯〽️

That’s a great idea. “ Where are they now “. 👍🏾👍🏾
Beautiful horses and awesome spread how many hands do they average you make them look small lol
Thank you. They are not very tall But very strong. I’d say the average is 14.2 - 15.2
I miss you guys being on TV.
So do I! Hopefully 2021 we are back! 🤞🏾

Apache, she just loves you Matt giving you kisses.
Hey Matt what brand of automated water dispensers do you guys use in your stalls?
They are Nelson
Thanks!

Go right ahead! That’s what they are out there for. To help! And to create more fans of Reining! 💯😎〽️
When they spin like that do they ever step on themselves?
Yes they do at times. Typically early in their training. We use bell boots on those. A lot of ours don’t have front shoes so it’s not as big of a deal. Some older ones I don’t use bell boots all the time because they get “ scratches “ out here in our climate and the boots irritate them. Have to kind balance the risk/ reward with that
I have a question Matt why do the horses have their tails wrapped
Just keeps them from getting tangled and dirty. With the sliding stops they tend to get down in try e dirt a lot!
How do you get them to carry their head low?
I don’t. I do teach them how to give to pressure. When a horse is relaxed it will carry it’s head in its natural position. We try to pick horses that’s conformation has them set up to be parallel with the ground. Not all of them do this and that’s ok too
So what horses are actually urs Matt ?????
As much time as I spend with these guys... ALL OF THEM!!
Do you work with non pros or do you just show level 4 pro
".... you know?" 😂😂
That mare be good for a junior?
Yes I think she would
What’s the price on the mare..:she’s lovely but probably way out of my range...I imagine most of your beautiful horses would be
Any thanks for your interest! She’s really a cute mare. What’s your email?

Why you geld does horses?
If they are not going to be used for breeding purposes Or their attitude is affecting my ability to train them
