What a delight of a Symphony! Unique voice of New Zealand, with hints of Sibelius. Thank you wonderful, wonderful Lilburn.
Very beautiful symphony. 3th movement is very airy and representative of the skyes in New-Zeland.
Walton 2nd? ? V. Williams´"Pastorale"? "Saturn" of the Planets of Holst? Nr. 3 of Bruckner? The scaling up of such dramaticism and tension, reminds me something (but no, not the 7th of Sibelius), but I´m unable to precise, sorry. Anyway the "Prelude-Moderato" is outstanding - greatness with G. The Scherzo is a suprising masterpiece and there, yes, there is some Sibelius and even Bartok. It may sound ridiculous but after the Scherzo, sorrym the 3rd and 4th movements are slightly disappointing. My mistake in anticipating something different, full energetic Brahm´s style? My error, mistake, non sense. A great piece, overall.
Also some William Walton, I think.
It's Sibelius. But none the worst for that.
