The second installment of my invertibrate collection. Lots of insects and arachnids here, so those of you who get the creeping willies from bugs should steer clear.
This is my favorite video you have done yet! So relaxing, I fall asleep too it all the time. For me the question is who wouldn't want to hang dead bugs on their wall, I am soooo envious of your insect collection...all I have is a lucite pendant with a golden stag beetle and and a bracelet with a carnelian beetle. But it is so much fun to wear them out and see peoples reactions to them...50 percent love it and 50 are terrified!
Hey, just wanted to take a moment to say that you are my FAVORITE whisperer and I appreciate all the time you take into making these videos for us. I always look forward to a new video from you. God bless :)
I can always tell how passionate you are about your interests in all of your videos. I think that's what makes you a good whisperer. I also have to say your very articulate! Ive always found I have a hard time with trying to get out what im saying (brain/mouth disconnect I guess) and I sound a bit ridiculous. I would love to be as passionate and articulate as you, its very refreshing and makes your videos extra enjoyable!
I think this amazing I've watched so many times you almost make me not so afraid....almost please make another one with ur new additions or collection we haven't seen :)
Hello miss ---- fascinating!!!---- You've inspired me to start collecting. I think they are so interesting. Thanks miss, hope you and yours are well x x x
No- I think I'd be pretty freaked out if I saw some of them live. Especially the bees and wasps and scorpions. I don't like pain, particularly. But there's something thrilling about holding them and knowing they can't hurt me.
Believe it or not they're really sweet and gentle animals- one of the most social invertabrates. Can't judge a book by it's cover, even if it's cover is like: If Satan himself had a nightmare- that's what he would dream. lol
I love this video :) SO AMAZING. I live in the desert so tiny scorpions are the ones you have to worry about. Poisonous and IMPOSSIBLE to see. Our Cicadas are pretty amazing though :)
Damn this was cool. I work in a natural history museum, so I could technically see bugs like these every day BUT these are very nicely portrayed so I enjoyed immensely anyway. ^^
HeapOfBones I know that I may have some facts here and there wrong, if you work in a museum, I would honor and respect any corrections, amendments, or additions you have to make. Also, I unashamedly envy your job
SilentCitadel Hohoo, I dunno if I'm qualified to suggest any amendments. I'm not a scientist or researcher or scholar or anything. I'll take the envy though, it's a pretty cool job. :P
We don't have them here on the west coast really- at least I've never seen one- I've only ever heard them on tv or movies!! But I always wanted to see when they all come out at once- that sounds amazing
I think I did quite well considering my fear of spiders. The colorful beetles that you show at around 8-9 minutes remind me of the ones you see in the Lion King. :)
Arachnids is the word you're looking for I believe! I'm so jealous you got to got to that museum exhibition. That sounds amazing, I would have loved it. I also love documentaries on insects and invertabrates. Have you ever seen microcosmos? It's just bugs and music, no speaking at all. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.
I'm not a fan of bugs that are alive...lol But these are very interesting. Well...not that all alive bugs creep me out, but I'd rather not have them ON me. Despite having to control my feeling of things crawling on me sometimes during this vid...This was a great video. LOL! I always learn so much while relaxing!! lol Thank you.
Wow, I had no idea weevils were so beautiful! Amazing! And I have never seen a tailess whip scorpian, so scary looking but fascinating. The leaf insect is my absolute fave of your collection - they have always fascinated me since I was a child. Thank you so much for sharing these with us, and thank you for sharing them while teaching about them too. The more understanding we have, the less we have to fear. I hope you do decide to make more vids of your collection. Glad you're feeling better too!
I cant believe these things are just flying around.. I would die if i saw any of these huge bugs just flying by my face... I scream when I see a really big fly lol
Lovely video! I've been to Naturalis too when they showed the blown up ants and cockroaches. Those were really scary to see in human size. Good thing there aren't bugs that big or we humans would get eaten by them 0.o Naturalis really is a lovely museum. If you ever come to the Netherlands I think you would really like to see their animal collection :D
I knew it was a belostomatidae, but I hadn't been able to narrow it down any more than that, THANK YOU. And I'm thrilled you like my collection- this is only a fraction of it. It's kind of silly how many bugs I have, lol
Did my bad latin pronunciation just melt your heart? lol. Thank you 14. You've been around for a while, and I always appreciate your devotional proclimations. squishy hugs to you.
We wouldn't be alive long without spiders- but I totally feel your animosity- it's a very natural reaction. I get creepy crawlies too, but not when they're behind glass, lol
lovey vid... and a really nice collection indeed. I like insects and other orders (which I cannot name in english right now... like spiders, scorpions) in a sense that I am not that scared of it. Have several books and watch some documantaries on TV. Actually if you really want a freak show you have to blow them up to human standard. :D In a Dutch museum in Leiden (Naturalis) a few years ago they had that kind of exposition. Such a wonderfull experience to see ants and grasshoppers that large.
He's SO awesome isn't he? There's some great youtube videos of people's pet tailless whip scorpions, though none are the same exact species as this guy/ gal (charon grayii)... I would love to try and keep one some day.
This was a beautiful vid, I had a module this year in etymology and found mounting really difficult (I broke LOADS of bugs) is it easier mounting larger ones?
I'm terrified of insects but I still decided to watch this video and I have to say there are some huge bugs in this world. I'm sure a shoe wouldn't do me any good against these guys...
I absolutely hate bugs, but I really enjoyed this video. I find they don't bug me (lol) as much when they aren't alive or moving :P The beetles are beautiful!
Girls can be pretty squeamish. It's always been a pet peeve of mine. We enforce stereotypes about our own gender when we're like that- but I do understand why people are afraid of bugs- it's a deep rooted instinct- But yeah, I do totally love bugs. Thanks Ken, you're awesome. All the best from Oregon.
Omg. I FACED MY FEARS!!! Lol. I cringed the whole time, but I did it!!! The millipede didn't freak me out too badly, mostly because it looks like a bug we have around here. They are considerably smaller though. We call them potato bugs or rollie pollies.
It's interesting that you have a textural aversion to insects but millipedes don't bother you- for many people millipedes are the WORST with all those little legs. Fascinating, if you don't mind me saying so.
They're incredibly gregarious, one of the most social and family oriented invertabrates. I think they'd be a fascinating pet- But I'd rather have a millipede if I were to get an insect pet, something about them is really apprealing to me. Anyway- I watched a bunch of videos of cave spiders/ tailless whip scorpions on here too- they seem really easygoing and friendly, they just look HORRIFYING.
Also there's a thing I like to go to when it happens. It's called the Rock and Fossil Show. They have a stand with mounted bugs, spiders, fish, and even bats! I don't know if they have the stand every year, but I think they do.
I totally understand That's EXACTLY why I made that disclaimer. Never fear though- in the next day or so I'll be making a very special contest vid that has nothing to do with bugs!
Thank you Most of the ones i found so far are well across the world from where I live though :/ I just got my first bug today, An palamnaersus scorpion.
Haha, It's just a regional thing. Like "roof". My partner (from s. carolina) says it like it rythmes with "goof" and I say it like it rythmes with "puff"- There are also a number of other regional variants; Crick vs creek for one. I just speak pretty much like eveyone else in the pacific northwest. My mum said it like that, so that's how I say it. It's possible that we're massacring the pronunciation. I'd be interested to check and see if I've been doing it wrong all this time.
Great video! Although the "mouthparts" of the tailless whip scorpion are actually its pedipalps which is a a fancy term for claws and the feelers are the first set of legs. One you take a closer look at the arachnid family their phisiacal traits are very similar. As a keeper of some I have to nit pick but otherwise you have a wonderful collection
I respect bugs, but I am a bit squeamish of things that sting in real life. Especially wasps & hornets--but they don't freak me out when they're dead, because they pose no threat, lol-
Based on the size and features of your "Water Bug", It's probably a Lethocerus species. My guess would be Lethocerus indicus since they're fairly common in Asia and Asian cuisine. If you already knew that, feel free to ignore this. Just thought I'd try to help you out. You have such a cool collection!
Great video and great collection. Thou I do hope that you dont have a worm one. You know, long...abominable worms closed in boxes...would make me die...
Are you on the east coast? I've hard there are giant millipedes over there. JEALOUS. If you ever find a dead one I'll make it worth your while to send it to me! ha!
I thumbed up-but can't watch :( I have severe arachnophobia. But I look forward to ur next video and THANK YOU for the heads up before I watched the rest of the video. Very much appreciated!
Hello! I was watching a video on Facebook, and it immediatly made me think of this video of yours. It was a video about the unidentified arachnid you are showing at 22:30, which I believe is called an American Whip Spider. The title of the video said "American Whip Spider attacks its owner" and I remembered you said people kept them as house pets. I did some research and they look really similar... I have no idea if I'm right, but since I know you like to learn, I thought you would enjoy hearing this!
You should have been a science teacher. Better still, you should have your own TV show on Discovery Channel or Nat Geo. Your son is indeed fortunate to have a mom who is so remarkably knowledgable. I find your videos fascinating and informative.
I dont want to insult silentcitadel or cause distress, but many of her facts were incorrect. If you gathered information from this, you are misinformed. I am generally curious so I typed in the names on the display specimens to learn more on google and know quite a bit myself from my own amateur studies. Im not expecting citadel to remember every little factoid about every specimen she has, but I cant tolerate misinformation. Sorry to everyone! :-P
Snakes get to me more than bugs...seriously, I'm worse than Indiana Jones. I can't stand being near one, even if it's dead. Bad enough my uncle gave me and my mom a Cobra preserved in a bottle, he told us people in Thailand eat them like that...
Holy moly, this video was so extraordinary! And so informative! And of course, so relaxing! Many women are going on my nerves when freaking out just because of a spider, mouse or whatnot. It's so refreshing to watch a decent lady like yourself to explain calmly and slowly about those critters. Thank you very much Esmeralda! All the best from Germany!
Hahah- I DID warn you! Did you see the title of this video? It is called "Whispering and Bugs" I don't think I could have been any clearer- That sounds really bitchy but I'm actually having a chuckle. Anyway, I know it's weird but if you google search asmr you might find some illuminating information. On a side note, you may have the best user name I've ever seen. I have more videos where I show different parts of my collection, but if the whispering weirds you out, you won't like them.
Worms don't preserve well, otherwise I'd definitely have one. Wet specimins are a whole nother level of biological collecting I'm just not ambitious enough to pursue.
"the creepiest bug I've ever seen"
- C'mon, it can't be that ba-OH MY GOD
This is my favorite video you have done yet! So relaxing, I fall asleep too it all the time. Hello miss ---- fascinating!!!---- You've inspired me to start collecting. I think they are so interesting. Thanks miss, hope you and yours are well x x x
Your country is where the most beautiful and amazing bugs in my entire collection come from.
Your island nation is a JEWEL on this planet.
I hate bugs alive and near me but these are awesome! I love the gross looking spider one with the big arms that people keep as pets hahah
No- I think I'd be pretty freaked out if I saw some of them live. Especially the bees and wasps and scorpions. I don't like pain, particularly.
But there's something thrilling about holding them and knowing they can't hurt me.
So happy this is still up! Thank you 😌
I would probably explode from joy if I ever got to go there.

So glad I found your channel...love your love of insects
Nice relaxing voice as well

Very intresting video! You have à great collection :)
I love the sounds cicadas make
A fascinating video as always. I think your passion about science is one of your most endearing gr
As a current Entm major, I clicked as soon as I saw this in my recommended
Meredith Mitchell invertebrates ftw.

Astonishing the detail it has, isn't it?

Love the blue beetle. :D
:) Thanks! I like to never run out of random stuff to think or talk about.
I used to have some stick insects as pets, they are amazing creatures.
Nature is the best artist ever!
I'm terrified of insects but I still decided to watch this video and I have to say there are some huge bugs in this world. I'm sure a shoe wouldn't do me any good against these guys...

Centpedes are pretty hair raising. I have a giant one but I didn't show it b/c it even creeps me out a little, lol
Wow this makes me want another tapping and scratching video
It's a totally natural reaction. I would never give someone a hard time for not liking bugs. I'm just a big ol science nerd.
It's interesting that you have a textural aversion to insects but millipedes don't bother you- for many people millipedes are the WORST with all those little legs. Fascinating, if you don't mind me saying so.
I'd love to see more bugs!
Creepy usually means interesting in my book. Not always- but often.
Love this one! Where did you get all these?
They're incredibly gregarious, one of the most social and family oriented invertabrates. I think they'd be a fascinating pet- But I'd rather have a millipede if I were to get an insect pet, something about them is really apprealing to me. Also, I think you are dead on about the grasshopper. THANK YOU!
LOVE your voice! wow...and there's something quite 'dark' about this vid...but in the best way possible!!! xx
I never knew pill bugs can get THAT big. Also, I've seen a live tailless whip scorpion at a zoo. It didn't move much though.
Also there's a thing I like to go to when it happens. It's called the Rock and Fossil Show. They have a stand with mounted bugs, spiders, fish, and even bats! I don't know if they have the stand every year, but I think they do.

I have a tarantula in my collection and yeah, he/she is pretty creepy!
Lmfao that ring finger ring on the left hand, I wonder what that is used for
Great video! Although the "mouthparts" of the tailless whip scorpion are actually its pedipalps which is a a fancy term for claws and the feelers are the first set of legs. Scorpius155 THANK you for nitpicking. I always appreciate correct information. I don't mind being wrong, and I love to learn!
Fantastic!
It's Hunger Games polish! lol! It's called Harvest Moon. I loooove it.
I respect bugs, but I am a bit squeamish of things that sting in real life. Especially wasps & hornets--but they don't freak me out when they're dead, because they pose no threat, lol-

awesome video
OM GOSH! Where did you get your interesting bug collection??. I've been looking to start my own bug collection but I can't seem to find any :/
That was so freakin cool
Uh- 20 or 30 bucks- not a ton, but I was really broke at the time I got it. Sometimes 20 bucks means a LOT and sometimes not as much
Great video and great collection.

I cannot watch this. But I love the audio.lol
Thx! Love ur videos-can't wait :)
I do love my absurd collections
it is too bad- but bug farms are very good for the environment so I don't feel particularly guilty about it.
only you can make dead bugs interesting LOL
I thumbed up-but can't watch :( I have severe arachnophobia. But I look forward to ur next video and THANK YOU for the heads up before I watched the rest of the video. Very much appreciated!

Oh you have to show the largest bee & the largest ant in you next bug video!

Tingle tingle and that's just after 10 seconds
Ebay!
Collectables/ animals/ insects and butterflies!
I had a feeling you wouldn't mind this one ;)
That's how I like to play asmr videos- while I'm doing something else that's stressful- to take the edge off.
What research do you do?
