This makes Morro look younger than the show managed to. We're told Morro died young, but in the show, you can't really see it due to the dark greens and constant darkness. You managed to showcase his youth without taking away the darkness so we can see the duality of his character. A kid who went down a dark path and was consumed by it. I can't help but think of how Morro is simultaneously the same as Lloyd while also being his opposite. Both unleashed evil on the world due to ignorance, and both fought to fix what they'd done. Both know what it's like to be homeless. Both were taken in by Master Wu. But Lloyd never wanted to be a ninja period, let alone the green ninja. He made his mistakes because there was no one who cared enough to stop him, whereas Morro abandoned his mentor in anger only to make a mistake that got him killed, desperate to become the green ninja. Morro was allowed and encouraged to play as a child, choosing to train instead, but Lloyd was forced to put training first and literally miss his whole childhood in order to be the green ninja, even when he wanted to play or have fun. It's hard to tell which one had it worse, and yet swapping their roles still wouldn't mend their problems or make them happier. Neither of them would get what they wanted.
Do you remember in one of the episodes (not his season but idk which one) Morro was a good guy trying to help the ninja? But Morro really needed to get more show time, he was the COOLEST character!

The fact that at 2:18 it showed Morro holding the sword, seeing his death is such a creative and wonderful idea! I mean that in the least creepy way possible, and I’m not going to act like this animation didn’t make me cry. 30 seconds in I was already in tears- I feel like I can relate to Morro’s character a ton.
2:46-2:54 this scene is so amazing. The imagery and Morro’s facial expression tell so much in such a short amount of time. You can see the cursed realm flash over top of Styx. Showing how Morro has a unpolished his goal of bringing the same pain and misery he suffered to the real of Ninjago. And he smiles at this, finally others will share in his pain. But it serves a double meaning. As Morro’s smile disappears he realizes that he’s right back where he started. He’s still a slave of the cursed realm, a prisoner to his horrors. Unleashing the preeminent on the world didn’t make his situation any better, it just made things worse for everyone else. He’s just as unhappy now as he ever was. And for just a moment, he realizes how meaningless his whole mission was. He was hurting and he wanted to make everyone else hurt too, but that didn’t make him happy.
I cried when I watched this- I feel so sorry for Morro, he suffered so much and died so young. He was never given a second chance and deserved better. His story is so unique compared to any other villain story in ninjago I’ve seen- he went through betrayal by the protagonist’s *mentor* but died so young and came back only to find he was replaced and that no one knew of him or who he was. I wish Morro could have had a better life and actually have a childhood. He’s a brilliant character too- being an elemental master himself, and taking over La-Lloyd to altogether fulfill his dreams. This is why I don’t actually like Wu, Wu set him up so that in the end it wasn’t the same with Kai’s sadness for not being the green ninja, but instead it was him having spent most of his life training and working hard for it to turn out to have been nothing. I feel this was a set up aswell, as the green ninja has the combined elements of ice, fire, lightning, and earth. Not wind.
Me and all of my friends always say Morro was the best villain in Ninjago. He was complete character arc with a compelling and reasonable story. People relate to him. 😭😭
I saw this on Tumblr and I came here again so I could come into the comment section and cry. Seeing Morro’s backstory when I was like, 13 years old had an effect on me as a kid. Seeing it again from this perspective really just adds to the gut-punch feeling.
Honestly I'm surprised that they never revived Morro. I think it's for the best, he was a very impactful villain, but I'm surprised they haven't tried to capitalize on his popularity.

Morro’s backstory is sad, he wanted to be the green ninja, then he died, and then he didn’t even get to live as a ghost, he just died AGAIN. It is really deep if you think about it.
Alright, I have returned to write an essay about this. So, number one, I absolutely love your style. The characters have so much expression in every panel; it's incredible. The expressions are also so precise. I can tell when a character is frustrated, devastated, gleeful, and much more. Also, the background greens are amazing. I love how you mostly stick to shades of yellow and green to set the tone of each scene. The ghosts look so good? I know they're not as detailed as the main characters, but they still look fantastic. Especially the shot at 0:50. Speaking of, there are some shots that are delightfully large in scale such as when Morro first arrives in the Cursed Realm and when the Preeminent appears at at 2:35. I'm not an artist, so I don't know the specifics, but the sense of scale is present in so many of these shots, and it's great. There are also just so many different angles that are used here for the full effect. I really like use of angulo picado (don't know the English term, but it's where the audience is looking down at a character) and angulo contrapicado (audience looking up at a character) in this. Also! The music! And how it's perfectly timed with the animatic! Especially when there are the little "duhduhduhduh" portions with different flashing images. Especially especially where it cuts between a determined and smug Morro and his skeleton at 0:42. It adds to the piece so much. The Golden Weapons fading in color when the singer's voice drops slightly on "here?" Magnificent. Also, going back to the moment when the Preeminent enters the realm, having that happen with the beat dropping and the scream in the music? Amazing. Inspired. Show-stopping. And just as someone who really likes season five, this is a wonderful summary of events from Morro's perspective. He's probably one of my favorite villains simply because of how the writers thought through his motivation and backstory and how those things would affect him and lead to him causing problems. And this animatic encapsulates all of that perfectly while also being really fun. It also includes just so many great moments like Morro throwing a windmill at people. Also, I didn't mention it before, but I love the detail where he sees his fate in the sword. And finally, the kite. It's such a great way to bookend the animatic while including a small detail from the show, and I just love it. So, yeah, top tier animatic. I have watched it many times.

Okay, I have to say, I LOVE THIS SO MUCH AHHHH YOUR ART STTYLE IS SO EXPRESSIBE AND I LOVE THAT IT STARTS AND ENDS WITH THE SAME KITE, AND HOW YOU DRAW MORRO. he looks like a kid/young teen WHICH I LOVE because he probably WAS A TEEN WHEN HE DIED- AND I LOVE JUST. ALL THE DETAILS YOU PUT IN LTO THIS!! ESPECIALLY THE WAY YOU DID THE TRANSITION, LIKE THE INE WHEN HE GETS THE STAFF FROM WU, OR THE ICE BREAKING. THE LIGHTING DOR THE INVINCABLE LINE IS SUCH A COOL ADDON, AND I LOVE THE IDEA OF MORRO SEEING HIS DEATH IN THE SWORD OF SANCTUARY- AND JUST. ALL THE EXPRESSION YOU MANAGED TO DISPLAY!!! the ghosts coming out of the preeminent feel overwhelming and the ANGER ON MORROS FACE AS HE LEAVES THE MONASTERY!!!!1! (I suggest a fic to you about morro, its lloyd and morro centric, written amazingly and its a morro redemption arc fic. 10\10 recommend, its called "Land of the living" on ao3!! Your animatic reminded me of it)
