The paver with the ladybug is a Dutch concept to draw awareness to pointless violence, bullying and aggression. How interesting that it founds its way to Portugal!
They are placed all over the country near schools, stations and municipalities etc. The ladybug was chosen as they represent love and luck!
Oh wow! We had no idea that there was a meaning behind this and used to symbolize something so important.
The previous owner was from the Netherlands 😉
The previous owners were Dutch I believe. They also brought the clay, maybe to Make more ladybug tiles?
Thank you for that information!
Quick thought: you should create a book with all the stories you heard about this mill. It'll be a nice thing to give away to the next owner if you ever sell or just a nice document to share with the local council or if you plan on receiving field trips from schools around Portugal. It'd also be a nice thing to pass on to your children if you'll never move. These tiny bits of history tend to be lost and the more I grow old the more I appreciate these nuggets.
This is one of the most transformative episodes yet. It is all coming together. An uncluttered space is a beautiful space. For the first time I can really see how amazing your home is going to be. I think it should be featured in "Better Homes and Gardens". I know you still want to travel some in the future, but I don't know if I would want to leave the peace and beauty of your castle.
we wonder the same thing! a happy, peaceful "problem" we are ok with working through 🥰🙏🏰
I’m so glad they aren’t covering all of the walls in plaster. I love the look you’ve chosen for the interior of the mill. The history is so interesting and important. It’s amazing how much larger the area looks now that everything has been moved out from the main room! It’s going to be so beautiful!
The old stone walls are charming and add so much character. There is no way we could. ✨🏰
@@Mrandmrsadventure will you be sealing the old stone to cut down on dust when you need to brush them off? It already looks so beautiful and charming! ❤
@Mrandmrsadventure
I love the fact you both will let contractors add their artesian flares to the project. More historical preservation for the future tours of our children/ peoples. The Mill is a history lesson in itself. 💜
A future book perhaps?
@@gafairbanks2434 Yes! You must be reading our minds... 🏰
It's incredible how quickly projects get completed with a skilled & experienced crew of hardworking tradesmen.
These guys are amazing!
At least two of the masters are Ukrainians.
I love watching them do their craft.
With a building that old, you are never an "owner" but a custodian for the time being, and I love that you are approaching the renovations in this way. You are putting your own touches on it, while at the same time, honoring those that came before you. This alone says you were the right people to take on this mammoth project. Kudos to the both of you.
When you are finished can you send me those Ukrainian builders to my house? They are awesome! And cheerful as well … your mill is looking great! The flowers and the kittens give the house a homey vibe 🥰😽🌷
It’s wonderful seeing the “Masters” at work.❤
Have you considered putting a small hidden light inside of the mill stone before you put some glass over the hole? To illuminate it and make it a feature
LOVE THIS IDEA ✨💡✨
U guys have the best crews working for u.. U must be impressed with the crews work ethic.. Everything is looking great.. See u next Sunday!!!
Thank you for the beautiful classical music.
I enjoyed the classical music. Sounded great.
love hearing that you loved hearing it!! 🎶✨
Loved the classical music as well!!!❤️
@@joycedistMEEEE TOOOO🎉🎉
That opening shot was gorgeous. It's a long journey to completion, but then all of sudden it's seems you'll be standing in your completed achievement. 😺
Watching these guys work is just amazing. They are amazing at what they do. Love the aesthetic you guys have chosen. The artistry involved with their work is just😮. It's all coming together so well. I think the ladybug tile should def be a feature somewhere
Entryway, patio, kitchen, somewhere. I like the TV above the door idea.
The plaster and strip of stones in the theater room looks so GOOD...wow...SO EXCITING OXOXOX
ahhh, thank you lovely!!! 😘😘
@@Mrandmrsadventureyou sould put library there, under the strip of stone you put bookshelves all around, in the middle something to sit on
So many good choices for good reasons! Saving the history for future generations. Well done!
You don't want a TV that high up. I did and regretted it
Definitely hard on the neck having a TV that high. Maybe they can have some sort of curtains to cover the TV when not in use. Or a pull down screen from the ceiling that essentially acts as a facade to cover that section of the wall where the TV is mounted.
@@katesummerlin That's a creative idea to put curtains 😊
You could build a curved wooden seating bench to go around the big watermill protrusion next to the mill table for your morning coffee ;)
It’s amazing to see how fast and nicely the guys are working. Now we are able to guess what your home will look like. I’m very impatient to see the achievement. I remember how wild and frighten the cats were and now they get into the van and even sleep with you. It’s a good thing that you adopted us, I think they are precious companions. 👍🇫🇷
😻 They sure are!
Thoroughly enjoying your videos! Love the progress made and the transformation in the water mill. Love it, it has so much character! Need to congratulate you on acquiring such a good building team... you were fortunately to have found them! Respect for those fine hard-working Ukrainian people. All the best from South Africa .
Loveeee that youve kept stone and added plaster, gives it so much more character, it truly is going to be magical! The small piece of glass for the mill stone a light shining under it would be amazing☺ Those guys are worth their weight in gold for the work theyre doing! Takecare of each other. Love Rose xx
Each week the mill moves closer to being livable. Unique touches and accents are starting to be revealed.
I love the time lapse. And cleaning years of leftover treasures 😂❤ great vlog as always, family. ❤🙏
Love it all! So many important choices to be made it’s a bit mind boggling to me, but you two are the perfect people for this important transformation. I am constantly amazed at the talent and superb craftsmanship of the men working there. This has just been such a wonderful channel to follow and I look forward to each Sunday. Hugs and love to you and the kitties.🤗👍👍🥰🙏
Thank you so much!! The guys will be back again tomorrow and we can’t wait to share what happens next 🤗🙏✨ Next Sunday though will be about our Iceland travels. We just came back from a week of being there and captured some beautiful adventures for you all to share in and enjoy ❤️😍😽
@@Mrandmrsadventure oh wow, wonderful place! Tara, John and the boys were there too, did you see each other?😊
@@Bindismom Nope, but we laughed together that we both had trips there nearly at the same time. 🇮🇸😁
I absolutely love the way you are getting that plastering done. That band of rocks exposed in theater room is wonderful. That river clay will be a good coating on some of the surfaces too. I think it could be sculpted into the house in a myriad of ways. That of course can wait until much later. When you transfer it to the new containers keep some out to play with.
yes, yes, YES! You "get" it and us 🤗😘
@@Mrandmrsadventure You might consider getting a Muriel painted on that big hump in the kitchen area, maybe have painted terraces, native wildflowers and trees, the river bed n stream flowing, even cliff behind the mill, the kitties, your dragon garden; you can see where I’m going with this; make it your bright cheery place to start the day. I just feel it’s a special part of the mill and a scenery artist could add the special touch to the HUMP😂❤.
What an exciting episode! I love seeing the plaster going on! I am so happy for your relationship with the cats!🐈 It’s beautiful! ❤
A lot of plastering to do...btw in Portugal we use 3 diferent stages of plaster inside walls 1 chapisco or very liquid scarse coat of cement plaster to improve adhesion 2 mortar plaster with a proper sand to regularize and straighten the imperfections of the walls 3 the finish plaster with fine sand and in some cases lime stucco plaster to let the wall became smooths like silk ...after the finishing plaster if you use a good quality plastic paint the walls will turn beautiful...
You must be very happy at all the work that's been done...it looks amazing to see the inside becoming a home you will absolutely love..
The tile at 6:18 is from the Netherlands. These where introduced in 2001 and placed in all different cities to remind people about acts of violence that happened. People getting bullied(around school areas) or people getting seriously injured because of violence (around bars in city centres) They are called "Lieveheersbeestje tegen geweld"
This is a beauty in the making. Love how you are preserving the history.
Watching other diy channels I remember some that say exposed brick/stones/plaster can be very dusty. You may want to find a product to seal them. It is coming along beautifully. I love the shabby chique look -mix of old & new.
From feral to sleeping with you!! What a journey of love on both your parts :)
🥹 we are blessed by them 😘😘
The tradesman did the a great job. It would be awesome to have all of their names inscribed somewhere in the house - even if it would be on a piece of wood hanging - The Hands that built our Home. Its a beautiful way of gratitude for future generations...and a great conversational piece for guests when they enjoy your home.
You guys are smart to hire help to get this major home project renovation completed sooner & the way you want it done. its easy to end up doing DIY home renovation projects like yours for years & years & years which leads to lots of stress & missing out on life.
Your artist home renovation crew is doing an exceptional job!! 🇵🇹💪❤
Thank you for reconfirming our choices. We know our limitations and are lucky to have great help. ✨🏰🇵🇹
My thought is that you leave your hand prints and paw prints in a corner of where your welcome mat would be. I grew into an adult and after 40 years it's nice to see them at our front door! 🥰
I love watching what you are doing and how much respect you have for the land and those who work to make it happen. These men are masters of their trade. To know they can watch now and share with their friends and families is really a treasure. Can't wait to see more.💖💕💖
Beautiful work. Love those two pieces of classical music. Happy to see the ladybug tile and hope you’ll find a beautiful place to display it. See you next week.
You definitely should do concrete counter tops. They are beautiful and durable ❤
It´s an option.. but we have also beautifull countertops made of polished granite ...that will last forever....
This is my favorite video to date. Watching the rooms come together with plaster.....AMAZING
I love the ceiling it is so beautiful. It is all coming together it's going to be a beautiful home for you kids when it's finished. I allways look forward for your videos to see what is next.❤
Wow. It's really coming together. Keeping some of the original stones showing is absolutely gorgeous.
The mix of old stone and platter is looking great! So much better than covering it all up.
Have you thought about making the doors at the end of the video into glass french doors so you could see out from the kitchen/dining area? It would bring alot of that natural light in also.
The water mill is looking great
It is looking so beautiful already. I can see what you see. Great progress. 💎🙏💕🐨
You guys are probably going to be living in the watermill this summer. We can already see the progress. It's coming along great!
We will see 🏰
The boys are cracking on with it. Fab job 👏 👍
from the mill to the castle, when this is finished you will enjoy the beauty you are building, BRAVO,❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🤍👍👍🌻🌼🌷🪴🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
17:50 Amazing musical choice ! And extremely rare on a YT renovation video... Who's the classical music nerd among you 2 ??? ❤❤❤ For those interested it's the Novelette op.21 n°2 by Schumann yeah i'm a nerd 😁
I’ve been an Electrician in Canada for 25 years now and I find it so interesting to learn how it’s done in other parts of the world regarding home construction methods. More of the electrical work please. By the way I’m incredibly impressed with you two and the work you do.
My wife and I have property in Greece on Corfu Island and we hope to one day soon do the same that you are doing.
Beautiful transformation ❤
Thank you both so much for taking us along on this part of your adventure in Portugal. What a journey! It's so exciting watching all of the changes everywhere, and seeing your vision unfolding in the videos!
🐞🌻🌸🌼🍀🏵️🌺💮🥀🌷🌹🐝
GAS....IS the Best! Wise Choice.
It's getting so real now. Busting to see here shining 😊❤
You're so blessed to have been able to find so many incredible and talented people to help in bringing your vision for the mill and property to life. And the mill was blessed to have you become it's new stewards.
How exciting ❤❤❤. There is an acid mix you can buy to wash the stones with it really brings out their color .❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
11:08 - Hey, that's a good thing, Drew! At least you'll know the walls can handle shelves or other things when you want to hang them. 😉
32:10 - And don't forget that you're doing it with the help of some very special people that had to leave their country because of the madman that lives next door. Slava Ukraini! 💙💛
Glad you are leaving some stonework exposed. Very interesting. Wow! It is coming along beautifully.
You can really start to see the vision now. Just beautiful 😍
I absolutely love your vision of the kitchen and it's walls. I'm excited for the next phase ❤
The plant with the caterpillars is from the mustard family. It is an invasive form called hedge mustard. The caterpillars will become small, white butterflies.
I love that you share all this amazing work. The mill is turning out so beautifully. Bravo to you both and the amazing artisans that have been working so hard and with enthusiasm and joy as well in their crafts. Can’t wait to see each episode! 😍 Grandma Debbie 33:13
I really like to hear the Portuguese llanguage being used and the occasional printed translation. Very nice. Great changes taking place. Just image trying to do it yourselves! It's so good to see you are surrounded by good people. Yes, we're inspired.👋💕
loving the time capsule like finishes you are putting on the old mill, it honours those who came before & i think she (the mill) appreciates it, as she seems to be coming alive
the lady bird paver is unique & should be one of the steps to the front of your house coming into the house? that's if you pave both doorways
loving the renovations & how easy going the workers are for you to have those wonderful features around the house
thanx so much for sharing
Just a friendly note. Avoid laser beams coming straight into your camera lens. It will damage the sensor of your camera.
Nice to see the wide open spaces in your home ...to be. It gives a lot better perspective of you plans.
The more they got further with this projekt, the more you you can see how big it is, it`s massiv, but you see the progress and it`s getting a home ! I´m following you till it`s ready. Greetings from Hamburg
Love your construction team so much! I wish we could get to know them better directly. Their positive attitudes, building skills, teamwork, and love of music are awesome.
28:18 right wall you can paint all white. And put a projector to the kitchen and voila! you have a giant tv 🤗
Thanks for sharing another informative and fun episode. We are amazed each time with how much has been accomplished. Love from Tomar.🥰
Progressing well.
Ok. I can see it now. I had no idea how amazing your future home will be. Wow. Looking forward to seeing this evolve. Been cheering you on since 30K... Congrats... enjoy the wind at your back!
Wow! We had just finished our Sprinter van build back then. Glad you can see the beauty of our magic mill! We can feel the vibes of cheer through the screen 🌟
So excited to see your home finished. Lov❤e all the work you've done to the land protecting the home. Keep up the great work.
Things are really shaping up,we have been waiting you guys for a couple of months and love your channel. The mason are something else, these guys really work 😊
House coming along nicely.
I have never seen such hard working men look so happy and cheerful, because, what they are doing is without a doubt intensive labour work!
It is starting to look incredible! Can’t wait to see the finish product
Love ur videos. Watching from Ireland. The worker's are amazing 👏
Great Video!!! Home is coming along beautifully!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Beginning to take shape. Have you considered having a unit made for the tv on a motor to lift it up. There are many options. Stay safe J.
It was an idea that we have heard and considered. Less moving parts the better.
It’s looking great!
For your island, if you want or need more counter space and have the room, then have a gate leg on the island to give you more counter space.
Looking GREAT! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
love it; ''when you have music it's not work!" es verdad.as for me; when your work is music it's definately not work. love the theater rock exposed, look forward to one day performing there
A suggestion on your TV problem. Get a framed tv with programmed piece of art and your TV goes from a problem to a feature. Just a suggestion.
You could put an operable sky light on top of the pit and an opening to the living space inside and use as a solar chimney and for natural light
Best workers I’ve ever seen, it’s happening how exciting. I look forward every Monday for your new episode
WOW what a team you have working on your water mill. They are fantastic... Please tell them that! Can't wait for the next chapter. Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦🎉🎉🎉🎉
You should build a deck where the gas line comes out and hook up a gas grill to cook outside.
I love everything you are doing with the mill house.❤
Amazing progress looking real good
Great times things are going to get done😁
Wow! What a transformation! Those guys are top notch!
the old mill is starting to look amazing all your dreams and wishes are coming true awesome you guys
💫
I admire your courage to do all this. I can't wait to see the end result. I wish you good luck.
Looking at the pedestal over the top of the water I remember a pub in an old mill in the UK that had a glass top that looked down on the water going through, you could put led,s to light up below and a small battery/solar pump to give the effect of water flowing
That's a fun idea 💡
It’s gonna be the most unique space ever thanks for sharing❤️
WOW so much progress so fast! It's so beautiful. I can't wait to watch you build your dream.
What a great work ethic your team of builders have. They really got a lot done this week. Another step forward in the development. I think you may need another container to put all the stuff you took out of the house to stop it getting ruined 😊😊😊😊
I find it amazing how all the work is done by hand, with hand tools, very cool.
I love are doing with the combination of bare stone and plaster…it’s going to look amazing!
Its coming together really well and its very exciting to see more and more of what it will turn out like. Though I am suprised you didnt use lime on the stone. Cant wait to see your next vid.
