Hey, i want to thank you for this demonstration. I used to play a raw dp focused build, but wasn´t enjoying it that much. Elemental bows felt way more fun to me, but didn´t seem to be competitive. With a diablos build i barely beat a teostra within 15 minutes and couldn´t touch a Kushala at all. After playing for some day with a elemental crit build, i just managed to lay a Kushala in 6:30, which is a huge accomplishment for me as a new MH player. Thank you for opening my eyes to this playstyle.
i hope more bow users start using these builds, the playstyle is so much fun and element has served me very well thanks to all your speedrun videos. getting those mighty bow, ballistics and power or normal decorations was rough but super worth it. its super nice you put all that info in one place here as well, i would have killed for this video two weeks ago. thanks for your hard work!
started playing this game for the first time on PC and got mighty bow gem within a day of starting Tempered hunts. super stocked to continue using this build! Thanks for all the great info!
MHW is the first MH game I've mained the bow in, then I found your tutorials showing how great it is. Literally couldn't have gotten luckier picking a weapon.
Excellent stuff. Very informative. I'm so glad to see the community fleshing out the bow. I remember back during the beta days when people thought that the bow was simply going to be reduced down to Dragon Piercer sniping, so I'm glad this wasn't the case. I like that this elemental crit build is also very accessible in that it doesn't require god-tier decorations in order to make viable, meaning that just about anyone can make a build from it right now without RNG grinding for gems. You may not get 2-3 minute kills on Elder Dragons without the Mighty Bow Jewel 2, but even without it you can still kill them in 5-6 minutes, which is still very reasonable.
You are a gentleman and a scholar, sir. I was just starting to get bored with the game but hadn't tried elemental crit out DESPITE exclusively using elemental bows when I bow. I just made my first cera coilbender the other day. I'd been wondering why I couldn't pump my rookie damage numbers from say ~30 per shot on spread to your ~50 even with a mighty bow gem. I tested this out last night briefly and my spreads got to the mid 40s per shot. Can't wait to max the set out later!

The tempered jho speedrun he did was the first solo bow hunt that I've seen that didn't use DP even once. Variety is the spice of death. And yes, I ripped off of doom on that one.

Man such a great video! I’ve been looking into doing more ele builds. This is perfect, my play style fits this so much more. The diablos build isn’t my favorite to play, Dragon pierce leaves me feeling vulnerable
@Phemeto just a tip, the kushala coil is better than the legiana coil, it's the same but with one more free slot....and the anjanath bow is pretty good with dragon pierce and ele crit against val hazaak, with triple augment it might be better than diablos bow
This guide was really helpful on demonstrating and teaching us about using the Element Crit Bow 'playstyle'. Would you consider that it does more damage consistently than using DP with Diablos bow?
Been loving Bow so far. Thanks for showing me the way of Bows and also for the guides. They help a lot. But how do you get the Power Shot so consistent? I always seem to miss one or two arrows.
im a very average MH player i usually just wear the armor with the best defence lol so most of what you said went right over my head. but im gonna try to get this build together i love the bow.
Out of curiosity, why the Hunter's Proudbow II over the Water Shot III, and why the Vaal Hazak bow over the Dragonbone III bow? I get that the Proudbow has higher Elemental damage when fully awoken, but is the extra investment to unlock the element fully worth the extra element damage? And I get that the Hazak bow supports Power Coating and has better Raw, but is the extra 150 Dragon damage not preferable? (I know the decoration slots are different as well) Kinda curious what your thought process was, and what you see in each over their alternatives.

Is It really worth getting the lunastra 2 pc set bonus(increase in stamina cap) for bow builds? considering everything else like rath 2pc set, deco slots needed for spread, normal, bow charge, constitution etc. Should i prioritize it over say constitution lv3? You finally cover the REAL META of bow. Been using elemental set forever now. Your previous guide is more leaning toward the niche builds. In MHW, elemental bow is meta with no contest. If you want to do any speed run, elemental set is pretty much the set to go.
Not really meta, but it's getting there. A lot of people love raw damage and it's most likely just Crit Builds as usual within MH. Honestly, I really want to see more Elemental sets to shine the standard crit builds
What's your build at the end when fighting the nerg with the strikebow? It looks like the Odogaron gauntlets and legs, but im not sure about the coil. If you're using the odogaron gauntlets, are you still using a constitution 3 charm? Because then you have 4/3 constitution, I'm sure I'm just missing something

oh WOW. I didn't realize how much damage I was missing running around with xeno bow / crit set.. it's a good 10-15 damage OFF (per shot and multi shots) from specific elements. thanks for the guide and info. You think there will ever be a time and place for xeno bow? T_T

In your the Saphire Star Video you use the Raw Diablos Bow with the Set for the Elemental crit. Can you explain why you use the armor also for a weapon without elemental dmg? And which decorations do you use for the raw bow? thx :)
hey i've just finished some element builds for the bows and i was hoping you would be able to tell me if critical boost effects the elemental crit damage and also does the circle shot on the bow count as a spread shot because i'm currently wearing the "Lavasioth greaves" for the skill "spread/power shots" if not i'm still going to use the skill because power shots are amazing but just wondered if i was getting an additional bonus to damage?
Very nice video! I'm currently using a similar-ish set with legiana bow but waiting to craft the Kaiser vembraces and get the bow charge plus gem. I haven't managed to craft the other element bows yet but i'll get there, i also have a few armor pieces to craft now thanks to this :)
Can we get a val hazaak bow run? And what do you think is better against him? I was doing okay with the anjanath bow but i think the val hazaak bow should be better because of the elder seal as well but i havent maxed it yet so i wouldnt know. Trying to maximize my dps vs him for decorations farming as he is the easiest elder to farm for me.
Phemeto Personally find the Vaal Hazak bow very nice against him and Kushala. The Average elderseal aura breaks a lot more often than you think and can create openings for dragon pierce.
_ Senikis _ I don't dragon pierce much with elemental bows, the time to charge a lvl 4 DP and and release it is just too much dps loss vs the normal combo imo. I did just get a mighty bow and crit boost jewels so I shall test more today, hopefully can get a val gem to max his bow :')
Quick question, why use the legiana bow over the daora bow? Is the 150 extra ice damage worth that much to lose 20 ish raw damage, 2 gem slots, and 10% affinity?
Do you have any bow augmentation recommendations? I suspect one affinity augment takes precedence, but should I add more attack points or decoration slots afterwards?
Man Ive been going back and forth on constitution lately. I used it religiously on every bow set for most of the game but lately ive felt like the damage is high enough that the monster spends half the time on its back so you dont need the bonus stamina. Standing pelting the weak point doesnt drain much, especially with the juice. Interested to see what shakes out to be the preferred meta.
tbh i dont use water bows really at all. they're bad. I only use proudbow vs teo since im in his face the entire time, but its comparable with legiana anyway.
Ballistics is usefull for power coatings for sure but since i can’t kill an elder before i ran out of power coatings like you do, i have to switch to close range at some point. Ballistics seems to be also shorten close range distance and i realized if i’m a bit away from the monster i can’t get any damage because ballistics shortens the distance for close range even further. It might make close range worse actually. What would be your suggestion? If i ran out of power coatings should i not switch to close range coatings with ballistics or should i not use ballistics at all?
So if I have all the decos that u mentioned the best armor set up to fit it all decos in is the last one u showed? Wit spread and normal up slotted? Just looking for one armor set up so that I can just change my bows.
Great video btw...but there's something bothering me...your Hunters proud bow has a lvl3 slot AND a lvl2 slot...how?even if you augmented it with 3 slots you should have 1 lvl3 1 lvl2 and 1 lvl1
Hey Phemento, amazing video. I was just wondering if it's higher dps to keep starting up the O+R2+R2+O combo over and over on a downed monster or whether it would be better to charge dodge once you reach max charge and follow up with a R2+O dodge and repeat?
Nah I figured that would be the main downside. I've only just started bow and my main downside seems to be stamina management. I'm gonna try using the 4 combo instead. Thanks heaps for the reply mate.
That was one of the better bow vids I have seen. I knew I was on to something when I had the stri know rocking and then tried something different with all the elemental stuff up. Also , I don't think the nergal whisper is any good at all or I m doing it right.
I got the one after that , dooms shaft I believe . It's a lot better. I think I have all the bows now and am going to check if I have those decorations . I knew I was missing something for that consistent up close damage . I have the slide shoot thing down when needed but I m trying to do this style . It seems very effective . Thanks .

I can write something up real quick: Head gears - Azure Rath B (for set bonus and Crit Boost) or Eyepatch (2/3 WE) or Rath helm (atk 2 and a slot, and set bonus) Chest - Rathalos Chest (WE 2/3 and set bonus) Gloves - Teo beta (WE 1/3 and slot) Waist - Odogaron or Nerg, your choice Boots - Black Diablos or Lavasioth (Normal up and spread Up, pick the one you don't have decos for) Charm - FItness charm for 3/5 constitution. Decos - Mighty Bow is top priority, then elemental boosts 3/5, then Normal Up/Spread Up. and then fit in whatever you can from there
Thanks for this! I also tried the death stench waist for more dragon damage and made the kadachi waist for thunder for that extra elemental damage since the belt felt like a free slot that boosts the elemental damage, or is the attack boost much better for stats?
has something about the game changed already?, cos the most damage I do with the rata helm, armor, lavasioth boots and etc is 15-20 ....and I swear I have almost the same setup
Question: is it bad to use DP with ele bow? I have different set for rapid play and DP depending on monster. I use kadachi bow for dp against bageljuice and it works well. I haven't tried using diablos bow against bagel though
1st is ALWAYS affinity. its %10 crit (subsequent affinity augments are 5%). the 2nd/3rd are entirely up to you, crit/slot/damage are all worth about the same in the end.

they're about equal. most of the fight isnt agaisnt weak zones since you break them so easily. so I just kind of went with raw, but either works. they even out
I can’t decide betweeen ratholos helm and rath soul helm. Which one is better? If i use ratholos helm i also use nergigante coil to get at least level 4 attack boost with +5 affinity. If i use rath soul helm it looks like it’s better to put some crit boost gems instead of attack gems to get at least level 2 critical boost. What would be your suggestion? Is there a significant difference? Crit boost gives slighlty better numbers on the training area but on real fights i think attack boost might be better. Still can’t decide between these too.
theres not really going to be MUCH of a difference to be honest. It depends on what decorations you have available. I would prefer azure helm for the Crit Boost personally, but i dont think 2 or 3 points of damage is going to change much
Phemeto I only have 1 attack gem but 3 crit boost gems. I’ll combine 1 or 2 of these gems with azure helm and try it instead of attack boost. Thanks for your reply.
Between rathalos soul for critical boost or rathalos helm for the attack, which ends up being better? Critical boost seems to work well with high affinity but I'm curious about the extra +2 attack skill on rathalos as well. Especially with Nerg waist and 2 attack jewels.
tbh on a crit ele set it doesnt really matter. i use both, it just depends. the extra affinity for atk 4 is really nice, but CB always holds a place in my heart

Phemeto eh kind of. I just made karma and tried it for the first time yesterday. I have been enjoying bow though. I’ve never really tried the range weapons but your videos got me interested. Any other lbg or hbg that would be good to augment? I only have one hero streamstone but probably 6 of the warrior ones
I personally like the Lunastra LBG's and have been making mixed sets around those. Empress Shell "styx" has built in spare shot(Xenojiva Divinity) and RF Thunder and Water ammo, giving it a lot of enemies to choose from. With these 3 LBGs you can pretty much easily kill anything in the game. "Styx", "Ruin" i think the second is called it has RF Fire and Ice. But i usually use Rathbuster for RF Fire. These are fun for me and make more a nice change of pace when I fight different monsters.
Yes this will stack...I have heard that things like crit boost, DO NOT stack on top of elemental bowgun ammo. I obviously am no bow main but i was curious the effects on other elemental weapon types, and wonder if this could be a bug.
I followed this guide and I finally feel like I’m doing damage. I went from doing 18 to 40 per arrow and I swear I tried so many builds. I can’t wait until I get a bow plus gem and I can truly wreck. Just beat a tempered pink rathian and tempered legiana in about 10 mins and most of that was spent finding them lol.
So when farming strictly tempered elders, is it better to go with an element bow or elder seal? E.G., should I use fire for VH or the VH or Nergi bow? for Is it worth it to have elder seal?
I tried making a build like this, but I'm not getting those orange numbers when I hit. Do I have to be using the monster's weakest element or hitting a weak spot?

Hey Phemeto, just curious: when you were referring to the significance of elemental damage, did you mean that for every weapon, or specifically for bows? Because from what I've read the sentiment is the exact opposite for the majority of weapons(i.e. raw is king) with bows being the notable exception. Like, how is elemental damage for lbg for example?
Mark Navera element lbg is pretty good, shots pierce and damage multiple hitzones so it naturally works better vs larger things. You could pretty much use the same setup, just more free room to stack offensive skills because you don't need constitution, spread/rapid shot up or charge plus/mighty bow. Free element is worth considering because extra shots in a clip is more dps, however you need the full 3 points to get an extra shot in element mags. As mentioned, just bring the right element for the hunt and you'll be gucci.
For Bows, elemental is definitely best for one main reason: the number of hits. The raw damage portion of your damage is affected by motion values, or multipliers for each unique attack. A slow attack has higher motion value, and a fast attack has lower motion value. However, the elemental damage portion is not affected by motion values and has a fixed multiplier, regardless of slow or fast attack. What that means is for an elemental Greatsword, each attack will deal different amounts of raw damage per attack, but will always deal the same amount of elemental damage, whether it is a fast swing or fully charged swing. This is why raw is king for most of the slower weapon types, while elemental is king for the fast/multi hitting weapons.
However, keep in mind like Phemeto said, elemental bows are not great for Dragonpierce builds, and the raw Diablos bow is best for DP. The reason for this is because different parts of a monster have different elemental resistances, and most of the time monsters' bodies have higher elemental resistance than their weakspots. Since you aim Dragonpierces down the length of the body, an elemental bow will be handicapped both by the higher elemental resistances of the body and by not hitting weakspots to take advantage of the critical element boost. In conclusion, elemental bows are generally best for Rapid Fire/Power Shot playstyle, while the Diablos bow is best for Dragonpierce builds.
Followed this vid and made sets for each element and theyre awesome! only difference is i dont have those bow charge and ballistics coz i have bad luck on rng lol but on solo play they already kicks ass..
I managed to get both jewels to boost spread & normal shots meaning I don't need any of the black diabbos/Lavasioth leg pieces, what can I use I exchange?(teostra gloves got spread shot boost) so the new leg piece will have lvl 3 slot (I'm leaning toward kushala for evade distance extander, because of this, I lose a slot for ice damage boosting since the ice bow from legiana doesn't have any jewel slot, which is better legiana or kushala? I might try both on the training area but I need comps to craft the later
are buffs like normal up or the sharpshooter food buff active when using power coatings? i mean it says NORMAL arrows so i'd think they mean naked ones
its good for Raw, like Really good. But most monsters take more damage from elemental in world, and DP does no element damage, which is why i don't use it unless im using diablos bow. Its not bad, it still hits like a truck.
I tried this out and it seems not worth it since the Rath set bonus seems to be a 5% base dmg increase on crits, I did limited testing in the training area.
Everyone has always perfect decorations etc. I do not have these things.. I only have the crit thing, and power that's all, not good ones, rest are crap. So how can I make a decent dmg bow build without good decorations ? :(
The cool thing about the crit element bow set is that a good number of the sets that give those skills also come with at least one level of a specific element

This is the way I’ve been playing bow since I hit HR. Rathalos set itself giving Weakness Exploit 3 and Elemental Crit just made it so easy to start.

if you swap out the normal/spread up with handicraft for whites harpness then prob. I don't know much about melee though

In your the Saphire Star Video you use the Raw Diablos Bow with the Set for the Elemental crit. Can you explain why you use the armor also for a weapon without elemental dmg? And which decorations do you use for the raw bow? thx :)
its actually not the same armor set. it uses dober chest and has atk7 on it over ele crit. otherwise its the same though

hey i've just finished some element builds for the bows and i was hoping you would be able to tell me if critical boost effects the elemental crit damage and also does the circle shot on the bow count as a spread shot because i'm currently wearing the "Lavasioth greaves" for the skill "spread/power shots" if not i'm still going to use the skill because power shots are amazing but just wondered if i was getting an additional bonus to damage?
Crit Boost does not boost elemental damage, and yes quick shot and power shot is a spread shot, and will get the 10% bonus from spread up

Very nice video! I'm currently using a similar-ish set with legiana bow but waiting to craft the Kaiser vembraces and get the bow charge plus gem. I haven't managed to craft the other element bows yet but i'll get there, i also have a few armor pieces to craft now thanks to this :)

And what do you think is better against him? I was doing okay with the anjanath bow but i think the val hazaak bow should be better because of the elder seal as well but i havent maxed it yet so i wouldnt know. Trying to maximize my dps vs him for decorations farming as he is the easiest elder to farm for me.
yeah I haven't run Vaal much..i should do that. I would expect Anja to be better but I'll have to test....
Phemeto Personally find the Vaal Hazak bow very nice against him and Kushala. The Average elderseal aura breaks a lot more often than you think and can create openings for dragon pierce.
_ Senikis _ I don't dragon pierce much with elemental bows, the time to charge a lvl 4 DP and and release it is just too much dps loss vs the normal combo imo. I did just get a mighty bow and crit boost jewels so I shall test more today, hopefully can get a val gem to max his bow :')
Quick question, why use the legiana bow over the daora bow? Is the 150 extra ice damage worth that much to lose 20 ish raw damage, 2 gem slots, and 10% affinity?
Do you have any bow augmentation recommendations? I suspect one affinity augment takes precedence, but should I add more attack points or decoration slots afterwards?
Affinity first, after that its up to you. Raw or slot depending on what you need
Man Ive been going back and forth on constitution lately. I used it religiously on every bow set for most of the game but lately ive felt like the damage is high enough that the monster spends half the time on its back so you dont need the bonus stamina. Standing pelting the weak point doesnt drain much, especially with the juice. Interested to see what shakes out to be the preferred meta.
How did you augment/want to augment each elemental bow?
Also, why do you use Proudbow II when in your previous video you advocated for Watershot III?
tbh i dont use water bows really at all. they're bad. I only use proudbow vs teo since im in his face the entire time, but its comparable with legiana anyway.
Ballistics is usefull for power coatings for sure but since i can’t kill an elder before i ran out of power coatings like you do, i have to switch to close range at some point. Ballistics seems to be also shorten close range distance and i realized if i’m a bit away from the monster i can’t get any damage because ballistics shortens the distance for close range even further. It might make close range worse actually. What would be your suggestion? If i ran out of power coatings should i not switch to close range coatings with ballistics or should i not use ballistics at all?
So if I have all the decos that u mentioned the best armor set up to fit it all decos in is the last one u showed? Wit spread and normal up slotted? Just looking for one armor set up so that I can just change my bows.

Great video btw...but there's something bothering me...your Hunters proud bow has a lvl3 slot AND a lvl2 slot...how?even if you augmented it with 3 slots you should have 1 lvl3 1 lvl2 and 1 lvl1
no, the augments just add a level 1 slot, then upgrade the that slot for each additional augment

Hey Phemento, amazing video. I was just wondering if it's higher dps to keep starting up the O+R2+R2+O combo over and over on a downed monster or whether it would be better to charge dodge once you reach max charge and follow up with a R2+O dodge and repeat?
technically yes the better DPS would be the dodge charge R2+O but that eats WAY too much stamina for my taste. go crazy though

That was one of the better bow vids I have seen. I knew I was on to something when I had the stri know rocking and then tried something different with all the elemental stuff up. Also , I don't think the nergal whisper is any good at all or I m doing it right.
Nergal is ok, i mean at the point where you kill Nergigante its probably one of the better bows to use for Raw alone
I got the one after that , dooms shaft I believe . It's a lot better. I think I have all the bows now and am going to check if I have those decorations . I knew I was missing something for that consistent up close damage . I have the slide shoot thing down when needed but I m trying to do this style . It seems very effective . Thanks .

you have to fight a Rathalos. not Pink Rathian or, Azure Rathalos.

Hello, new subscriber and love the material you put out! is there a chance to have the gear/deco's listed out? It currently takes over an hour to fully load the video if the net does drop. I am currently deployed hence the dial up speed
I can write something up real quick:
Head gears - Azure Rath B (for set bonus and Crit Boost) or Eyepatch (2/3 WE) or Rath helm (atk 2 and a slot, and set bonus)
Chest - Rathalos Chest (WE 2/3 and set bonus)
Gloves - Teo beta (WE 1/3 and slot)
Waist - Odogaron or Nerg, your choice
Boots - Black Diablos or Lavasioth (Normal up and spread Up, pick the one you don't have decos for)
Charm - FItness charm for 3/5 constitution.
Decos - Mighty Bow is top priority, then elemental boosts 3/5, then Normal Up/Spread Up. and then fit in whatever you can from there

Thanks for this! I also tried the death stench waist for more dragon damage and made the kadachi waist for thunder for that extra elemental damage since the belt felt like a free slot that boosts the elemental damage, or is the attack boost much better for stats?

dude, i believe stamina consumption max cap is more than 50%, i've try lv5 Consitution + dash juice/eat mushrooms and i saw they're alot different.
if you want to make a vid to prove it, please do. I tried lvl 5 con, and then adding dash juice, you get the same amount of slides

I dont drink dash juice unless im speedrunning tbh. but yeah i do hunt a lot of diablos. you can usually get 6-10 extracts per investigation
You can get it slowly from tailraiders as well, if you're too lazy to farm and don't need to rely on it all the time

Question: is it bad to use DP with ele bow? I have different set for rapid play and DP depending on monster. I use kadachi bow for dp against bageljuice and it works well. I haven't tried using diablos bow against bagel though
As i pointed out, DP has a really low elemental modifier, its really not doing much elemental damage at all
How should I be augmenting my bows for crit elemental bow? I don't know if I should be going for more affinity or for another slot.
1st is ALWAYS affinity. its %10 crit (subsequent affinity augments are 5%). the 2nd/3rd are entirely up to you, crit/slot/damage are all worth about the same in the end.

they're about equal. most of the fight isnt agaisnt weak zones since you break them so easily. so I just kind of went with raw, but either works. they even out

I can’t decide betweeen ratholos helm and rath soul helm. Which one is better? If i use ratholos helm i also use nergigante coil to get at least level 4 attack boost with +5 affinity. If i use rath soul helm it looks like it’s better to put some crit boost gems instead of attack gems to get at least level 2 critical boost. What would be your suggestion? Is there a significant difference? Crit boost gives slighlty better numbers on the training area but on real fights i think attack boost might be better. Still can’t decide between these too.
theres not really going to be MUCH of a difference to be honest. It depends on what decorations you have available. I would prefer azure helm for the Crit Boost personally, but i dont think 2 or 3 points of damage is going to change much

Between rathalos soul for critical boost or rathalos helm for the attack, which ends up being better?
Critical boost seems to work well with high affinity but I'm curious about the extra +2 attack skill on rathalos as well. Especially with Nerg waist and 2 attack jewels.
tbh on a crit ele set it doesnt really matter. i use both, it just depends. the extra affinity for atk 4 is really nice, but CB always holds a place in my heart

yeah thats good if you like LBG. with 40% affinity you just need WE and you're probably fine, no max might
Phemeto eh kind of. I just made karma and tried it for the first time yesterday. I have been enjoying bow though. I’ve never really tried the range weapons but your videos got me interested. Any other lbg or hbg that would be good to augment? I only have one hero streamstone but probably 6 of the warrior ones
I personally like the Lunastra LBG's and have been making mixed sets around those. Empress Shell "styx" has built in spare shot(Xenojiva Divinity) and RF Thunder and Water ammo, giving it a lot of enemies to choose from. With these 3 LBGs you can pretty much easily kill anything in the game. "Styx", "Ruin" i think the second is called it has RF Fire and Ice. But i usually use Rathbuster for RF Fire. These are fun for me and make more a nice change of pace when I fight different monsters.
Btw when ur element damage is orange in color that means ur element is on max cap right? Example Fire 270 highlighted in orange.

Yes this will stack...I have heard that things like crit boost, DO NOT stack on top of elemental bowgun ammo. I obviously am no bow main but i was curious the effects on other elemental weapon types, and wonder if this could be a bug.
I followed this guide and I finally feel like I’m doing damage. I went from doing 18 to 40 per arrow and I swear I tried so many builds. I can’t wait until I get a bow plus gem and I can truly wreck. Just beat a tempered pink rathian and tempered legiana in about 10 mins and most of that was spent finding them lol.

Hey Phemeto, just curious: when you were referring to the significance of elemental damage, did you mean that for every weapon, or specifically for bows? Because from what I've read the sentiment is the exact opposite for the majority of weapons(i.e. raw is king) with bows being the notable exception. Like, how is elemental damage for lbg for example?
Mark Navera element lbg is pretty good, shots pierce and damage multiple hitzones so it naturally works better vs larger things. You could pretty much use the same setup, just more free room to stack offensive skills because you don't need constitution, spread/rapid shot up or charge plus/mighty bow. Free element is worth considering because extra shots in a clip is more dps, however you need the full 3 points to get an extra shot in element mags. As mentioned, just bring the right element for the hunt and you'll be gucci.
For Bows, elemental is definitely best for one main reason: the number of hits. The raw damage portion of your damage is affected by motion values, or multipliers for each unique attack. A slow attack has higher motion value, and a fast attack has lower motion value. However, the elemental damage portion is not affected by motion values and has a fixed multiplier, regardless of slow or fast attack. What that means is for an elemental Greatsword, each attack will deal different amounts of raw damage per attack, but will always deal the same amount of elemental damage, whether it is a fast swing or fully charged swing. This is why raw is king for most of the slower weapon types, while elemental is king for the fast/multi hitting weapons.
However, keep in mind like Phemeto said, elemental bows are not great for Dragonpierce builds, and the raw Diablos bow is best for DP. The reason for this is because different parts of a monster have different elemental resistances, and most of the time monsters' bodies have higher elemental resistance than their weakspots. Since you aim Dragonpierces down the length of the body, an elemental bow will be handicapped both by the higher elemental resistances of the body and by not hitting weakspots to take advantage of the critical element boost.
In conclusion, elemental bows are generally best for Rapid Fire/Power Shot playstyle, while the Diablos bow is best for Dragonpierce builds.
Followed this vid and made sets for each element and theyre awesome! only difference is i dont have those bow charge and ballistics coz i have bad luck on rng lol but on solo play they already kicks ass..

I managed to get both jewels to boost spread & normal shots meaning I don't need any of the black diabbos/Lavasioth leg pieces, what can I use I exchange?(teostra gloves got spread shot boost) so the new leg piece will have lvl 3 slot (I'm leaning toward kushala for evade distance extander, because of this, I lose a slot for ice damage boosting since the ice bow from legiana doesn't have any jewel slot, which is better legiana or kushala? I might try both on the training area but I need comps to craft the later

its good for Raw, like Really good. But most monsters take more damage from elemental in world, and DP does no element damage, which is why i don't use it unless im using diablos bow. Its not bad, it still hits like a truck.

tbh for diablos just replace something with non-ele boost, and swap the elemental decos for atk or crit eye, done

The cool thing about the crit element bow set is that a good number of the sets that give those skills also come with at least one level of a specific element
