Thank you for the scorekeeping lesson and appreciate the old school fantasy lineup. Nails, Schmidt, Mr. Padre and Benito is a plus for a Phillies/Padres fan.
While coaching, I have seen so many crazy things that I couldn't believe happened and that were very difficult to score. So that I didn't have to do it, I have taught several people to do it all they way from 8U baseball on up to 14U. What I remind my scorer is that there will be several plays over the course of a season where you will see things that you will never see again. For those, don't worry so much, just do your best. For the routine plays, over time, you will learn how to score them, and eventually the routine stuff will be easy. The most important thing though is if you are not sure, ask the umpire if the run counted. If there is one thing that you need to get right it, is the score. Good luck!!
Thanks a bunch for the video! I'm headed to Spring Training in a few weeks and want to pick up scorekeeping this season, so this was extremely helpful. Also I appreciate the absolutely insane lineup.
I truly appreciate this!! I know baseball very well so I volunteered last minute for my local league who needed someone. I would’ve been so lost just looking at this paper….
According to a scorekeeper friend of mine, you would go to the 2nd inning column (if it happens in the 1st inning, for example), and cross out the 2 at the top there and write 1 over it again. Basically shifting all the innings down by one column.
this is really helpful!! thank you so much, baseball season is starting and i’m scoring for my school. i’m moving form scoring from basketball to baseball, and it’s very different😹. Thank you so much!!
Scorebook should tell a story. We would keep track of balls, strikes, and fouls, direction of hits (we usually drew a line where ball was hit), and RBIs. At the end of an inning we would draw two diagonal lines in the corner to denote last hitter, and then switch over to next inning. We kept a separate sheet to track number of pitches.
There are ways to add data but I was trying to keep it as simple as possible. In little league, sometimes a coach has to scramble to find someone to keep score. This was designed so the coach can share this link to a novice so he can go back to pregame warm-ups instead of having to teach them in person.
I have a question.. so what if all players had a turn to hit now we start back to the first player again. How does that play out if it's still in the same inning?
You start marking the next column.. For instance, on book, if everyone in the 2nd inning hits, continue the 2nd inning in the 3rd column; just cross off the "3" and write "2" so you know you're still in the second inning.
Had to learn quick & helped although I did watch 3 times till I fully understood it. Wasn’t perfect on first game but understandable lol I’ve gotten a lot better. Thanks
Great start for learning to keep score. Must emphasize that this is extremely basic and perfectly fine for anything below Little League. By 12U (middle school) and certainly by high school, your scorekeeping skills must include much more than is shown here. Understanding and covering things like Reach on Error (ROE), reaching on Fielders Choice (FC), pitch count, stolen base/caught stealing, and more, is critical for being able to present meaningful team and player stats. By high school, your technique should be thorough enough to allow you to accurately and easily feed your results into the Max Preps reporting system. Use of Max Preps for game reporting is required for official high school scorekeeping in many states.
Record the batter-runner as reaching on a fielder's choice (FC). Record the out on the runner who was actually put out. (Ex. 6-4 FC) Properly recording a fielder's choice requires corresponding entries on two lines for two players (or three if it is a double play)
After a lot of searching I found the score sheets in the Rawlings "System 17" Scorebook match this one almost exactly. Maybe they've had a slight update since this video was made (there's no "Pitching Totals" line at the bottom of the Pitcher information at the bottom of the page).
Requires using new pages. Several years ago, there was actually a high school softball state playoff game in N.C. that lasted 26 innings over 3 days! Both teams had exceptional pitching!
Pitcher A pitches to Batter 1 who flies out to right field. Batter 2 reaches on base on balls. Batter 3 doubles, Batter 2 reaches third base. Pitcher B relieves Pitcher A. Pitcher B pitches to Batter 3 and the ball reaches the backstop. We’ll call it a passed ball to take Pitcher B out of this scenario. (If it is deemed a wild pitch the impact on earned runs is the same). Batter 2 scores on the passed ball. Batter 3 advances to third on the passed ball. Batter 4 grounds to the pitcher and is thrown out at first, but Batter 2 scores on a fielder’s choice. Batter 5 grounds out to short and the inning is ended. What runs are earned in the above scenario, if any? (Rule 9.16 in the rule book, Earned Runs and Runs Allowed)
#1. Learn the rule book! Watch lots of games so you know how to apply the rules to scoring. Be fair. Dont score all your team hits if its an error! Happy scoring!😊
I don’t get it. Does anyone Ever go through old score cards and recreate the game in their mind? No. So what’s the point other than keeping yourself busy through a long, boring game? Go Phils! 👍🏼 Sick lineup though Dykstra 4 Brett 5 Schmidt 20 Puckett 34 Fielder 45 Gwynn 19 Bonilla 24 Santiago 00
You must have a knowlege of the rule book to score properly or you will short change the players. You will not be accurate. Its a process of watching games on tv and learning how to apply the rule book.
Thank you for the scorekeeping lesson and appreciate the old school fantasy lineup. Nails, Schmidt, Mr. Padre and Benito is a plus for a Phillies/Padres fan.
This is a great how to video. Thorough enough to help someone be successful.

My Grandpa has scorebooks from 12 years ago! We go to the Buffalo Bisons baseball games all the time and he showed me how to keep score.
I don't understand baseball at all!
Thanks a bunch for the video! I'm headed to Spring Training in a few weeks and want to pick up scorekeeping this season, so this was extremely helpful. Also I appreciate the absolutely insane lineup.

Great video! This really helped explain the idea to my daughters. We are getting ready to go to a baseball game tonight, Go Rockies! ⚾
Dude’s little league team is stacked
I have to be the scorekeeper for my brother's team so this is helpful, thanks. Also what would you do if the order repeats itself?
According to a scorekeeper friend of mine, you would go to the 2nd inning column (if it happens in the 1st inning, for example), and cross out the 2 at the top there and write 1 over it again. Basically shifting all the innings down by one column.
Thank you! My brother's first game is in a few hours
How did you do ?
Same
@@eris3899yeah. We want to know how the score keeping went?
Kept my first scorecard last night LSU vs Vandy. Thanks for teaching me how to do it lol
this is really helpful!! thank you so much, baseball season is starting and i’m scoring for my school. i’m moving form scoring from basketball to baseball, and it’s very different😹. Thank you so much!!
I am scheduled to keep score for my son's game. This is extremely helpful.

I am the person he is referring to that the coach has asked at the last second. Thanks! ;)
This was incredibly helpful thanks

Nicely done. I always used a frontward "K" for struck out looking and a backward one for struck out swinging.
Technically should be the other way around. Backwards K for looking
Watched this for a refresher on how to keep score. Respect for this line up 😂
I LOVE the ball players names! I mean, not enough Giants on there, so that is disappointing. But you did get Benito Santiago!
How do you record it if the team bats around? They only have one box per inning, that could get really messy.
Tomorrow is my first time scorekeeping and this is super helpful thank you 👍
I dont even watch or play baseball like that but I love learning something new. Thanks!
Had to learn quick & helped although I did watch 3 times till I fully understood it. Wasn’t perfect on first game but understandable lol I’ve gotten a lot better. Thanks
Thank you! I volunteered to keep the book for pee wee baseball and I had no idea what I'd gotten myself into...
That line up is a monster!😂
thanks for this 1 question thou8gh in minor league or rookie league and the batting order repeats itself on the same inning what do u do then?
Move over into the next column, and cross out the 2, shifting everything along one
What about like a pop fly out to the center fielder. Just right the llayers position number in the middle and mark the out?

Helpful and quick, now I want to try in my softball league. Thanks!
If somebody tags up after a deep ball fly out, how do u mark that?
What do you do if you go through your batting lineup in 1 inning and a guy is going up for a 2nd at bat in the same inning?
So helpful thanks. Kids entering 10u and I haven’t been a baseball mom since he was 5 and I vowed to never do it again. Now he’s older here I am again
How would you mark a sac fly?
Will LOVED THIS vid and thanks for the knowledge drop
But what do you do with a batter hits twice in one inning Plss reply
Tony Gwynn batting 6th should be criminal.
Thanks. Nice work!
What to you do if they bat around in the same inning
Great basic instructions!! And great to use famous names :).
What would you do if someone gets out when he is running to second on a force

Just curious, what is the exact type of scorecard you’re using? Can I find it online? I really like the style of it

if the game goes to extra innings where do you tally them
Some scorebooks have more than nine innings but I don’t know what you would do with this one
The standard score book has I think 12 or 11 innings at always what I use so that usually covers it
Requires using new pages. Several years ago, there was actually a high school softball state playoff game in N.C. that lasted 26 innings over 3 days! Both teams had exceptional pitching!
Good quick lesson, thnx
Which scorebook is this?
Thanks Coach!
Thanks for the video. Baseball score keeping is needlessly convoluted
How does Gaetti not score from 2nd on Kirby’s base hit? COME ON WHEELS!!
Strike out swinging is K, strike out not swinging is a backwards K, right?
what happens if they hit around the order?
just start a new inning and rename the innings at the top.
Where do you buy this scoring sheet book?
What if a player gets multiple at bats in the same inning?
That would happen if they do the lineup all over again. If that does happen, just rename the inning at the top to the one you're currently on.
What if a batter bat's twice in an inning?
Standard practice is to go to the next column and manually change inning numbers in the column headings.
What about pitch count?
What about a double play?
What score book we you using?
I think it's from Dick's Sporting Goods
Thats a stacked lineup
Thanks this helped out a lot
Love it, thx!!!
Nolan Ryan got a single and Bobby Bonila struck out?
Pitcher A pitches to Batter 1 who flies out to right field. Batter 2 reaches on base on balls. Batter 3 doubles, Batter 2 reaches third base.
Pitcher B relieves Pitcher A.

Batter 5 grounds out to short and the inning is ended.
What runs are earned in the above scenario, if any?

This was so helpful thank you
As a head coach I can’t keep the score book, I’m wayyyy to into the game. I have an assistant coach keep it.
Thank you
Thanks
#1. Learn the rule book! Watch lots of games so you know how to apply the rules to scoring. Be fair. Dont score all your team hits if its an error! Happy scoring!😊
You don’t cover force outs
Great line up btw lol

Go Phils! 👍🏼
Sick lineup though
Dykstra 4
Brett 5
Schmidt 20
Puckett 34
Fielder 45
Gwynn 19
Bonilla 24
Santiago 00
For youth sports, someone has to in case there is a dispute over how many runs there are or if someone is batting out of order.
I saw a fan keeping a book at a game and asked him as to why he did it. He said it was a hobby of his. Everyone is into different things
Mike Shmidt!!
6 pitches, gave up 4 runs. Pull that pitcher!
Where’s your thumb dude?
If the runner steals you just advance him on scorebook
Great intro but who has Gwynn batting 6th smh

How come my Hispanic brothers stricken out 😂😂😂
This guy's voice reminded me of Kevin Malone from the Office lol but thanks.
Why….

Next video how to stay awake while watching baseball

This would have been a better video had it been in focus
Your lead off sucks 😂 ok jk
U make it overly complicated
You know you are “someone” when RECRUITERS sit around you at games and ask your opinion. ♥️⚾️🇺🇸
