Malaysian started using calculator officially on 2003, this is the results of seeing west developed country's outcomes on the calculator usage. The goals is to make students learn mathematics as much as they can and to not being outdated on educational technologies. However the curriculum using the traditional way is still used whilst in the learning. Calculator using helps students to understand the complex and the algorithms much more effectively and memorable .

I think they wanted the kids to spend more time understanding the concepts instead of calculating. Also when you get to college level, you really need to start using calculators.
But, you also need to show your working/formulas in exams. So you do need to count sometimes.
So I think in this regard, our MOE made a smart choice.

even in Korea student don't use calculator for maths, their maths questions deal with simpler numbers compared to Malaysian maths, and sometime the questions will contain no number but only alphabetical variables. Still.. I experienced massive culture shock during my first calculus class in Korean university ㅠㅠ bcs we Malaysians are well adapted to using calculator in maths, we really rely on calculator even dealing with simple maths 1+1 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

For example mine,im studying in private islamic school under my state,so my baju kurung would be White for the hijab and the tops, and Purple for the bottoms.

Just want too tell. Malaysia government n boarding school's rules is:
*Cannot bring any mobile gadget to school (except for Form 6 students)
    *Cannot wear makeup
*Wear uniforms must follow the code (like must wear name tag, necktie "for boys", school badge, etc.
*Cannot change the uniform cutting (like bell bottom pants)
*No eating in class (but since pandemic, school allow to eat in the class, but only during recess time)
*Stockings should not expose the ankles
*Cannot style the hair too over. Even dye hair also cannot.

Thankfully my teachers did a proper transition. From form 1 to form 3, they told us to use mechanical pencils. Then form 4 and form 5, they made us forgo them and start learning how to use pens instead to prepare for college. I remember my classmate would always get scolded for refusing to use pens to draw diagrams and write essays, lmao. She would stubbornly use a mechanical pencil to write essays in regular homework and exams. And yeah, they didn't like liquid correction and tape correction because it can ruin the exam paper, so they made us cross out the errors with a ruler (do some of us listen? Not really)

Malaysia's public education system is British oriented. SPM is O-Levels and STPM is A-Levels. In the past there was an an exam called SRP which was called Lower Cambridge during British times. SRP changed name to PMR and now its called PT3. In the olden days (my time and before) if you failed SRP, you had to re-sit or leave school. I know many who did not continue after their SRP.
Primary school is for 6 years and secondary for 5 years and you add 1 and a half years for Pre-U or better known as STPM. So PT3 is roughly K9 (Canadian or American system) and SPM is K11. STPM is like K12 and a half.
However Malaysia is a land of many Multi(s) which includes education. Theoretically if there are enough Malaysians of Korean descent, they could open a National Type Korean School. SRKJ (K) and SMK (K). The Federal Constitution has this written in as a 'Constitutional Right' to have mother tongue schools. The only subjects that are compulsory and uniform are English and Malay Language.
Maybe in the future if there are many Malaysian Koreans this could happen.

Sharing my own experience: I was in a day school, SMK, and my bag is so different from hers that it isn't funny. I do carry a calculator, but that's because it's usually in my pencil case. And my pencil case, is A5 size, I believe. There is no locker system while I was at school, so it's a risk but a lot of us just leave the textbooks in the drawer under the table due to their weight. Only in Form 5, because only then did we not share tables with other years. Make up? Not for me, and if any of my classmates brought any, I didn't know it. For my and their own safety also. Can't tell what I don't know after all. And yes, we do get notes from the teachers and the past year question revision books as well. Surprisingly though, my uniform is the same colour as hers. I was a librarian. My year was the last to wear coloured uniforms outside of the prefects.

It’s a bit different in non boarding government school..
1.class start at 7.30 a.m. and end at 12.50p.m. However, I usually arrive school at 6.45 a.m. as we have early morning assembly.
2.We also use pens, correction tape . Everyone must have mechanical pencil however it just for sketching and draw graph
3.We do separate our notebooks for each subjects. Some of important subjects have up to 3 notebooks. For example my english subject, we have notebook for essay, comprehension and grammar and lastly idioms books.
    4. Every government school students will be provided free textbooks.
    5. Every Wednesday, we will stay at school until 5 p.m. for curriculum activities. Every students can choose their own uniformed bodies, clubs and sport. As for me, I am in Girl Guides Association, computer club and my sport is aerobic.
    6. In my school, the tiniest bag looks cooler. It’s hard when textbooks are so damn thick🥲 Too big bag will look like a nerd in my school.
    7. We can’t wear make up. So if we do wear we need to keep it as natural as we could. Usually I only wear sunscreen, loose powder, lip balm and lip tint
    That’s all 💗💗

Malaysian and boarding school will always be the hardest one. My school actually 5 hours journey from my house by car. So that we usually only when home during mid semester or hari raya holiday which have 5-6 days off. So we usually spend most of our teenage life (since 13 years old) with friends than family. But exactly mine is really different, i just bring books that have unfinished homework during prep to dormitory with pencils case. Others than that we’ll just leave it in the locker in class. So i just use tote bag 😂😂. No calculator? I think it’s impossible to answer mathematics especially addmaths. I wake up at 6 am and sometimes 6.30 am😂😅 not a morning person to be exact. Prep start at 2pm-4.30pm, continue for sport activity until 6/6.30pm, eat and prepare continued prep at 8-11pm. Lights off is on 12.00AM. But usually I’ll sleep at 1am. Because so many things to do.. iron school uniform, finishing homework etc2.. idk how I survived that but here i am already finished my degree.

In Malaysia, we also have different types of school prefects like I was a mosque school prefect (I know it sounds weird but yeah I was HAHAHAH) As a secretary, I have to monitor the students who didn't pray or cheating to not pray, having a long period, handling with a lot of files, leading events and etc but in my school, we have way too much school prefects. The main one is the real school prefect and we have the librarian school prefect, canteen school prefect, peers school prefect, cooperative school prefect, and mosque school prefect. Usually in Malaysia, we don't have as many school prefects as my school has. Our principal just has a unique way of thinking. She was way ahead than I think she was😅

I finished school in 2017 (Form 5) so i don't really know how the student now but in my year, we usually carry a lot of textbooks + note book for every subject and we usually bring back to home our textbooks or else someone might stole our textbooks if we put it in the drawer table. We borrow the textbooks in early year and at end of the year, we have to return it so that's why we have to take a good care of it. We used pen for writing and mechanical pencil for taking a notes also correction tape, a calculator is a must. Some of the boys did not have pencil case so they mostly stuffed their stationary in their bag pocket. There is the day that we have physical education subject, we were allowed to wear sport uniform for the rest of the day, you can change it to school uniform if you want to.

  • @hizlan
    @hizlan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Bro, as a Malaysian Boy. I could say some of us, only bring a Pen to school. No textbook, no exercise book because usually we stored our books at Teachers Room or under our desk.
When I see this kakak's bag, I was like "Is she Malaysian?" I doubted her but maybe because I have never seen the girls school bag.
Even if we bring books to school, our bag is really thin and light. The discipline teacher would probably questioning you for bringing tote bag / super thin bag to school.
And we can't bring phones to school, there are routine spotchecks and sudden spotchecks going through the month. My friends sometimes had put their phone inside their pant (underwater) to avoid getting caught.
But there are still many students who go against it because it's so much better to have phones during school because we can listen to music and go through the social media.
And this is the truth about Malaysia.

Can consider Irdina among the smart ones thoo, I think regular students like myself who don’t really go to boarding school would just be back home by 2pm and probably go to extra classes (2hrs) like only 2-3 times/week 🤣 and we only study when there’s exams coming HAHA

i can't believe the malay girl is way older than the korean one. she look so sweet & young in her school uniform. the korean girl must be around 16, right?
my school was a controlled school (now the status has changed to a cluster school or something). being in a controlled school is almost like a boarding school like MRSM etc except, we go home daily. so we have a lot of don'ts and the rules are very strict. it's a girls school, we cannot cut our hair too short (except for religious purposes), earrings/studs must follow a certain size, must wear our school socks only, nails must not be more than 2mm long (they actually measure your nails with a ruler if they caught you lol), hair ribbons & ties must be in two colours (black or white) only and not more than 2cm in width, we cannot dye our hair/wear colour contacts/colour our nails/wear & bring makeup (exception for baby powder, deodorant & colourless lip balm) etc etc. so many rules that probably sounds ridiculous to other schools. but two things that we must have in our bag is the school's rules book & our school personal planner. the rules are weird & strict, but i get they have to keep up the standard & prestige and to train us to be "proper ladies" lol.

Kalau dia pakai alat solek mesti bertambah cantik... Jangan nak membandingkan muka semula jadi tanpa alat solek dengan orang yang dah pakai alat solek kat muka...

Wow impressed in Malaysia, today's schools can carry perfume and so on. When I was in SMK school, perfume was confiscated and wearing sarong shoes was fined because I couldn't, but I ignored it. Lol 😆

I think i use pen & correction tape a lot on high school/secondary school (2010-2014), while mechanical pencil always used on primary school (2004-2009) usually use faber castell or stabilo brand.. for diploma and degree, i use laptop a lot for assignment, sending file word converted to pdf, ppt.. only use pen when there's f2f exam (before covid)
And calculator can be use start from secondary

Them boys at school: Why bring the pencil, pen, eraser, ruler, calculator, writing sheets & text books when you can just ask for/borrow/loan/steal it from the other students...

Ansara (ex MARA student) too. Calculator is a must. My calculator still functioning well after 10 years graduating university. Yes the same calculator from 2004 (form4) until 2011 (4 years of degree)..also I need my highlighter especially during sejarah/history. Among my circle of friend I don't find any of them brought make up to class. But some do wear powder, eye liner and lip balm. Make up was a no-no. I sometimes brought my tooth brush during evening prep class. My uniform was white baju kurung top with brown khaki bottom/kain of the baju kurung..school was great (of course minus the studying haha 😅). University life was also great..have fun while you can and also all the best to every student in your future undertakings..😁

Not every Malaysian girl bring perfume to school.
I find that most Malay girls do emphasize this part.
I'm a Malaysian Chinese and I was wow-ed by that particular thing... since I have eczema problem and most perfume contain high percentage of alcohol which can easily irritate my eczema-prone skin and I also have odour-sensitive nose and mind because most perfume is over-powering and definitely causing me to have uncomfortable dizziness like inhaling some toxic fume LOL
Anyway essential oil will just fine, not those highly artificial aromatic fragrant oil that always make me wanna puke
