I was on the BKK to Seoul route with Jeju approximately one month ago. You never know when your day will come but keep living life as it it's your last!
But there's a good chance you'll survive a car crash - I've been in 3. Nobody can say they've survived that many plane crashes. Also, people feel like they have more control when driving. The statistics on driving are bad I would imagine, but people have the choices to consider when to driving - time of day, traffic, place, road conditions, etc. When you're in a plane, you just have to sit back and hope for the best fingers crossed - yikes.
@@brendangannon9286Gannon, you've been hitting the grog today or what. The point is that plane crashes are rare, but deadly car crashes are not. The chance of surviving each type of crash is not the point. Have a pint 🍺 on me laddy.
@LadyMul effectively every person in the worlds goes on the road in cars, lorries, bus passengers, etc etc. It's essentially 100% of the worlds population vs. the small percentage that flies on planes every year. When you introduce these relevant statistics, flying starts looking a lot less safe by the numbers. And then if you go airline by airline it starts getting scary
Your comment about the car ride to the airport being more risky than the flight resonated with me. One year I flew to Thailand and Cambodia for Christmas, and the scariest thing that happened on the entire trip was the drive to the YVR. The roads were incredibly icy, and some drivers seemed unaware that the conditions called for reduced speeds and no sudden moves. Ten minutes from the airport a car made an illegal and unsafe crossing of an intersection right in front of me and I had to avoid it without skidding into anything else, and it left me so shaken that when I got to the airport I had to take a few minutes in the parking lot to regain my composure.
I am going to Vietnam in February and I I am flying with Jeju airlines, the airline that had the crash in Korea a few days ago. That will not stop me from going. This was their first ever crash and they are a relatively safe airline. There is a risk in everything we do. I cannot stop living my travel dream because of that.Happy new year Gabriel 🎉😊
I worked for a international airline for many years. The public has no idea of the dangerous near misses, mechanical malfunction or pilot error or illness (stroke/heart attack in the cockpit). You will never hear about it!
That's comforting to know!🤣 I was on a plane not long ago that was delayed by a day due to mechanical repairs, then it was delayed for over an hour after we boarded for a 'technical' problem. When the plane finally took off, water was squirting from several areas along the wing during the entire ascent, as if some fire-extinguishing response accidentally went off. I've been on several dozens of flights and was alarmed as I've never seen that before but no one else on the plane noticed. Ignorance is bliss. Thankfully nothing else malfunctioned 😅
I used to work on pumps and motors for a living. Pumps , motors fail. You can maintain them. Sometimes they fail when they’re brand new. Sometimes they’ll last far beyond expectations. Hi Gabriel, I have been watching your videos for six years now. Until not too long ago, I remember your accommodation costs were around $15-$25 per night. However, lately, I have noticed that they have increased to as much as $80-$90 per night. Could you please cover the rising expenses in your travels over the last 4-5 years and how you have managed to cope with them?
Flying is absolutely the safest form of transport and commercial aircraft undergo rigorous safety protocols. Thanks for this video and I wish you a happy New Year.
The South Korea incident was the result of someone putting a wall at end of runway. The two pilots perfectly landed the plane on its belly & everyone on board would be alive right now if it wasn’t for a concrete wall placed off the end of the runway. Imagine those two pilots landing the plane perfectly & thinking ‘whew… we made it’ only to then see a huge wall coming at them at 100 mph. Total BS & I hope every passenger’s family gets compensation for the stupidity on S Korea’s part for putting a wall at end of a runway
There is a security footage video of the plane as it was descending onto the runway which showed one of the engines billowing smoke. One of the crew members who was questioned after the event also corroborated that this was in fact the case. Boeing messed up, again.
@ the pilots successfully LANDED the plane! Nothing would have occurred ( plane blowing up ) IF it didn’t hit a wall. Ask yourself this… was the plane on fire as it slid down the runway? Sure they need to find out why the landing gear did not activate but pilots train to land planes without landing gear… and successfully do it all the time. It isn’t until a stupid WALL that shouldn’t be there is HIT that things go terribly wrong
@@Charlie666- Did you see the video? The plane was skidding on the runway in one piece until it hit the concrete wall and exploded. The plane would've eventually come to a complete stop on it's own if it had more runway, or maybe something to help slow it down like sand.

Happy New Year Gabriel! Insightful video. Makes total sense, although the stakes are really high in a plane. Even just being in a close call situation would probably age me by about a decade, but still highly unlikely. Puebla has some amazing food. I recommend Antojitos Tomy De la esquina, or, Antojitos Acapulco which are both on the same street in El Centro. Very cheap, and both have amazing food. 'the stakes are really high in a plane' - Yes, absolutely. Statistically, air travel may be demonstrably safe, but it is often existential when it goes wrong. This is the unspoken deal we all make when we board a plane. It's a risk, with a very low likelihood of survival if it all goes wrong (compared to most other modes of travel).
Hi Gabriel, the only form of travel that may be safer is train travel. However, considering what you said about flying above thirty thousand feet for hours over a vast ocean and arriving in hours daily, it is amazing.
Happy New Year! What I've noticed is, often after a major plane crash there is another plane crash soon after. Completely unrelated, just a strange coincidence I've noticed over the years. I have been on maybe 60 airplanes in my life so far. People are afraid of flying (and I'm one of them) because of the altitude and also the feeling of complete helplessness as it's out of our control. Phobias aren't logical, so not amount of stats is going to override a phobia. Also, if you've ever had a very scary experience on a plane it can affect you. I'd still avoid flying over war zones, just in case. It's not the first time a plane has been accidentally shot down by a missile. People that are religious are less afraid of flying and dying, in general. I was flying with a religious relative and her attitude was: it's fate, if we're meant to go now, there's nothing we can do to stop it. Having said that, car travel is so much more dangerous. Ironically, I know of someone who died in a car accident on the way to the airport, finally returning to his home country after years of living abroad. Very tragic story.

@@madmousetales Right on, sounds good. From Goa it isn't far to Hampi which is one of the most interesting places in India. Not sure if you've already been there.
It's one segment of society where statistically, we've improved. It's never been safer to fly partly because of absolute attention put on "internal controls" having learned lessons from past accidents. This isn't to say that those controls can't be compromised when parties have self interests to serve. I think the Tenerife disaster was monolithic in producing necessary regulation. If I recall from an episode of "Mayday" or something similar way back.....the attitude of the most senior pilot of one of the two planes and the circumstances surrounding events produced the kind of impatience and poor decision making which culminated with the collision. The thing about life is that nothing is for certain despite man's good intention and effective execution. We can all look to recent events whereby expectations were met with far differing results.
Rick Steves has a book (Travel as a Political Act) that addresses the statistics of flying deaths and driving deaths precisely. It freaked me out how deadly cars can be, and he pointed out that the vast majority of lives that could be saved if we lowered the speed limits on highways from 75 to 55, yet none of us are in favor of that kind of life saving craziness.
People should know that airline crashes have been on the decline. It’s the lessons learned from these crashes that have help prevent new ones. Unfortunately they do still occur. Luckily airline manufacturers quickly to try and find the cause so they can address the issue. A single crash killing so many people at once has a lot to do with the social impact of crashes.
Hi Gabriel like your videos , I was born in Mexico but I’m retired now and leaving in one of your favorite places. Kauai next time you come back to Kauai I would like to meet you , I’m in the Kōloa poipu area.
About 4 hours by bus from Puebla....a village, Cuetzalan! It's beautiful. At the entrance to the church, Los Voladores (flying men) perform their ceremony a few times a day. Women wear traditional clothing. There are tropical waterfalls, the market spills into the side streets from the zocalo, and there are some ruins. You would love it.
Commercial airlines have had automated systems to help the aircraft, and it will become common in cars pretty soon making driving safer than humans, humans making dumb errors like looking at their cellphones or driving intoxicated.
Dont live life in fear; live it in unbridled curiousity and hope for the future
Exactly. And look before you leap.

I also occasionally fly around the world. I would avoid the airlines or plane models in question for a while (including certain Boeing models), to give them time to fix their mistakes.
When you see how many flights there is a year and how many crash, its safer than walking or driving.
Happy new year
It is scary to me , especially as I’m flying to India in a week , I know it’ll be fine. but those crashes must have been horrific for those involved
Where are you planning to go in India?
@@GabrielTravelerVideosgonna spend some time in Goa but make some trips to other places in maharashtra, karnataka, kerala etc. 😊
@@madmousetales I hope you have a very nice and fun trip!!
@@madmousetales Right on, sounds good. From Goa it isn't far to Hampi which is one of the most interesting places in India. Not sure if you've already been there.
@ I haven’t actually been , but am planning to go 😁
I have always associated you with positivity. Hopefully in 2025 and beyond , you will bring us lots more.

Well, the chances of surviving a plane crash are pretty dismal compared to a car accident, that’s what bothers me.
Safe, unless you are on the crashed flights.
In Canada there were a few starting on fire..
some one asked "how often to airplanes crash?"
i replied "usually once.."
I prefer to travel by train.
Kind Regards
Martin
You look kinda startled here Gabe ngl
Rick Steves has a book (Travel as a Political Act) that addresses the statistics of flying deaths and driving deaths precisely. It freaked me out how deadly cars can be, and he pointed out that the vast majority of lives that could be saved if we lowered the speed limits on highways from 75 to 55, yet none of us are in favor of that kind of life saving craziness.
And just when I was getting over my fear of flying...
Thanks for the tip, looks nice.
Commercial airlines have had automated systems to help the aircraft, and it will become common in cars pretty soon making driving safer than humans, humans making dumb errors like looking at their cellphones or driving intoxicated.
Happy new year.. Hope you come back to Indian subcontinent this year
Extremely likely. ✌️
Boeing execs need to be held accountable to the highest degree possible. Enough is enough, and it was enough long ago.
