    I don't see "ANY" issues with cheap electrical tape on the outside of the building for the phone lines ! :P. Good video man !!

    I was a telco contractor for 15 yrs and now cable contractor for 3. I've always been baffled how someone can just start an ISP, figure out the logistics of putting their own lines in the air & ground, and somehow manage to get enough customers to sign up without going out of business soon after. I'm guessing the costs to lease space in the same easements as the big ISPs isn't cheap, or for the areas you run your own unique paths/vaults is also expensive cuz of doing locates, drilling, etc etc. I have no business sense, so I guess that's why I'm still just a lowly contractor. Wish I'd taken a different path in life lol.

    Jesus, Comcast just amazes me. Such a large company, very profession outside looking (ish, don't get me started on biz or carrier relations reps), but they train their techs to be cheap and just always be in a hurry. Glad the local guys like you and the rest of us at least can do it right.

      The relation to other carriers IMO is one of the most fun things between these large carriers. Especially tier one fights.

    What kind of bandwidth usage are you seeing at your border routers and who do you peer with? This is all very interesting to me, and its not often that we get to see the insides of a fiber isp! Love your vids

      10-25% for the most part. You can check our peering at AS 399347 always adding more.

    what's up with these comcast techs, is it lazyness, time restraints or lack of knowledge, I could never imagine installing drops that look like half of what Comcast/spectrum puts out.

      They're paid by the piece, so the quicker you slap it together the first time, the more you make per hour, plus if it's guaranteed to break in the future, that's guaranteed more money in their pocket later to come back and fix it

      I used to work at mediacom and 100% right they paid $8 per drop you ran. So every house got 10 drops even if it was a 1 room shack.

    Interesting how you guys are using Tyco-A cases for distribution like that with the flat drops. What size flat drop are you guys using to get into the MDF / IDF rooms?

    • @briceperdue7587
      @briceperdue7587  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      12 count flat drive rarely using more than 1 of them. This just allows us to use less parts network wide.

    50 bucks for a tool - tools are gold - i am contemplating building or buying a refurb to run ids/ips pkt cap - all the req seem to be growing - selks says you can run on 16gb and 4 core, sec onion says a bit more malcolm says 8 cores and even more and arkime which is the actual pkt cap tool (formerly moloch) says 96gb ram - i know i don't want to get a 1/2u server, just going to get a ws - i could get a hp z4 but for the price of c 250 i may as well just get an am4 mb and a chip i can eventually upgrade. i did run sec onion on a box with older intel and 32gb and it was pretty stressed - it ran but was using all mem and dipping into swap...so will bite the bullet and get something with 64, check qvl list to mke sure it can run 4 dimms and 128 if i need to go with even more. As an aspiring infosec practitioner i sort of need to know the tools and it will be worth it but for a box that just collects pkts the hw req are more than i expected - if i can pass certs and get working then i can level up. one day at a time - great to see you out on the streets fighting the good fight and deploying fiber - it is crucial esp for smb sector - the symetrical bw is a huge boost - keep cranking! pls do an update on the z440 boxes you got - are they too power hungry to really deploy efficiently? at least you have some platforms to do devops on

      I was thinking of load 1 of them 440s up with as much ram as possible. Honestly their weight is most annoying with them like a 1u server or more.
