Preordered my Lexar GoHub with a 1TB SSD after watching this and a few other videos. Waited weeks and it finally arrived yesterday. DOA. The SSD does not seat properly into the hub or any USB-C port on either my MacBook Pro or Mac Studio. Sad that a company like Lexar didn't catch something this easy in a QC process. Already did the Amazon return.
Just received mine today. It seats properly into my iPhone with a solid click but haven’t tested it into my laptop yet. Don’t see why it wouldn’t at this point. The point of concern would be that it heats up and stays quite warm once plugged in and it doesn’t really let up if I’m using my phone but not recording. If I turn off the phone and set it aside, it DOES get cooler, but once the phone is being used, it heats back up again like a hand warmer. It’s also draining the battery quite quickly. It’s been plugged in for nearly 2 hours, again, without recording anything, but using the phone for maybe a third of the time, and it’s already drained 26% of my battery… wonder if this is expected, or faulty. Will have to report it in to see 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Simon, as always a great video. Me, I’m looking for such a solution but also with an ND filter that I can use on the Insta Flow Pro. One that’s balanced. The reason I’ve opted for this Gimble rather than the Hohem and the DJI Osmo 6 is that not only can use the black magic app, it’s own app can also record in Pro Res Apple log which is a game changer, I just need a nicely balanced solution to keep it really mobile, and this SSD is part of it. Just need an ND filter so the Gimbal is balanced. Finding one that does not get in the way of both the clamps available by Insta Flow is proving challenging.
Hello Simon, have you tried to connect a card reader to the hub ? Will be epic if it works so I dont need to bring a laptop to make back ups on shooting
@@FiveMCity Good to know thanks, and damn that's expensive. I think the cheapest is just velcroing a 30-40 $ USB-C Hub onto the phone and then plug in a small SSD like you see in "Minimalist Iphone 15 Pro Max SSD setup (For Filmmakers)" by The Savage Filmmaker. Should cost around 150 $ total, but of course it won't look as clean as that Lexar setup
Simon, how fast was the transfers to the SSD for a 5 to 10 second clip with this Lexar setup? I have a SanDisk 2T and tried shooting in ProRes 422, 4K - 60 fps, but it was taking between 5 to 8 minutes for the clip to transfer and I wasn't able to shoot another video clip till it did. I have an Iphone 15 Pro Max and I'm using the cable that came with the SanDisk. Also tried using a Rixmie cable which has a 20Gbps data transfer but with same results. I can't be waiting 5 to 8 minutes to take the next shot. Anybody out there having the same problem?
Unfortunatly they're out of stock, hopefully they'll put them back on the market soon.. Update: they're $239.99.. When it was $159. a 66% increase.. why Lexar?
Why attach everything to the iphone? why not connect the usbc hub and drive to the fixed part of the stabilized rig and just have a flexible cable to the phone? It seems like there would be a lot more storage options that way.
1) you won't necessarily use a rig 2) it shows in the video at 9:32 that you can do exactly what you can do exactly as you say (if I understood correctly)
If you still have the SSD could you please test the write speed with the app CPDT (Cross Platform Disk Test) on the S24 Ultra with 16 GB file size or if you have MotionCam Pro record a couple of minutes of RAW 4K video?

This is exactly what I have been looking for. A USB SSD that has a hub built in for charging or other device like wireless mic.
I've been holding onto my 512gb Samsung Note20 Ultra 5G with 1TB micro sd as long as I can. Something like this will make it easier to switch.
in the app setting on your X phone check your settings , camera and enable /disable vertical video if that might change things
Thank you for an excellent review. Lexar seem to have made a winner.
I believe that many people use a cell phone case. It's very annoying to have to take off the case just to connect it.
It works with most cases, there's enough space. Other videos shows the SSD attaching fine with a case.
Excellent product. Thanks for the thorough walkthrough

I just got my 2tb; NICE!
congrats!
Do we know if this will work with the new iPhone 16 Pro at 4k/120 ProRes? Or, will it exceed the USB-C limit of 4.5w power draw?

When are those Lexar devices (hub & ssd) on Amazon ? Thanks
Would like to know as well
They just added it on amazon for release on 31st of December it seems
@@Attya-y2y They've updated it. Will be released on Oct. 18th. at $239.. I have to look for another alternative..

Does it work with older iPhones?
Why does a big behemoth of a company like Lexar require a Kickstarter to release a product?
It's out and ready to buy :)

my 2 minute 4K 60fps ProRes shot transferred immediately. I didn't have to wait at all
@@SiHorrocks Thank you for the quick reply! I'll have to try this setup.
Hi Simon,
Nice overview!
Have you tested/experienced overheating from the Lexar SSD if shooting long form or doing large file transfer
would be nice if you could use this with the 360 cams....
Unfortunatly they're out of stock, hopefully they'll put them back on the market soon..

Very well explained Simon, thanks for sharing this video❤😊👍👌

Do you know if this works with a case on the phone?
you can't plug the SSD directly into the phone with a case on, but that hub can and you can use the cable
When will it be on sale?
I think they just added it on amazon, to release on 31st of December 2024
On sale now just got mine today
Would this work with the S23 ultra as well?
Could you please provide a link to purchase this SSD? Thanks

Sony experia v1 or6?
It's a shame this doesn't seem case friendly.
What about the problem with iPhone 15 pro loose type c. All the cables I have to hold them to avoid the unplugging. And I check it is clean inside
All sold out 😢
just make your own i made a 1gb one for less its super easy
Which products did you use?
