A name suggestion for the drone: the "Sprite"- "Surveillance Patrol and Reconnaissance for Intelligent Target Evaluation" (based on a real drone from the 1980's)
Instead of using buttons for the hydrogen engines, you should automate them with the event controllers. Depending on how much total power reserve you have in your batteries, turn them on only when the power drops to 20-50% and turn off when the power reaches 80 or 90% and let the wind and solar charge the rest. That would reduce the ice usage in the minimum. And if you want to go balls in, create an automated ice mining rig under your base with pistons and isolate the ice-hydrogen production to either a separate system with the engines and oxygen generators or by using sorters. Also, the drone should be called Gnat, because it just looks like one.
I'm a bit late here (youtube just recommended me the series recently), but I'd really recommend the Build Info mod. I find it almost as important as Build Vision, it show you a bunch of useful overlays like what sides are airtight as well as all the info you could ever need about a block, but also really critically, it gives air vents an air leak scan function that will tell you where the hole is so you don't have to run around looking for it. Improvised Engineering is also useful for just picking up and carrying things instead of having to kick them around like that. It's still pretty limited in capacity, you can't really pick up and move things any heavier than you could kick around, but it's way more controlled
1:04:30 You can use fast rotating baits on the ends of windmill-like contraption, and face it to the turrets so the plane of rotation is as perpendicular as possible to bullet trajectory. That way preemptive points of baits always will be out of their trajectory, but be worry about the places they're moving when spinning to avoid hets. Also you can build bait catapult to launch a hell lot of them into turret range, and while they're slowly falling out if the sky - shoot turrets.
What about the "Co-Fe to go"? "Ironic Kobold" would also make for a great name but I don't think it fits for a transporter. Maybe it'd fit for a tiny drill vehicle?
Andrew, I’m rewatching your 2024 survival series. I just finished the 2021 series so I could get a glimpse of how you built the AMG Sandstorm! Very rad 🤘🏻 but as I’m watching this episode, I’ve noticed in the top right corner of the industrial cockpit, the button panel types out “All Hail The Mighty Clang” thought that was a very cool Easter egg as I’m rewatching this. Loving this channel so so much!!
For engine management I remember back in the days I've created a script that takes into consideration battery level, power needed and every power source to decide to start or stop engines. It's usefull when ice is rare, but in your case just throw in a bunch of ice and let it run forever.
I know this episode is a couple months old but if he will turn it into a mining operation I hope he will close-up the mining tunnels and pressurize them. Would be cool to have a huge semi-realistic mining complex with long tunnels going through the ice to nearby deposits of other elements
The "safest" option for attacking might be the underground attack. It would take its time but you might be able to pop out directly under the turrets and disarm them that way
banger videos as always Andrew! definitely my favorite SE youtuber. and the fact that the last series lasted years is wild. and how all of them are almost continuations of the last (loosely) just makes them all better. been watching since just before the mars series way back when and never disappointed
You'd do well to put one of those massive automated drill rigs to accumulate ice, directly into the conveyor system. Yes, this seems quite passe, but I assure you, a whole lot of viewers somehow truly enjoy massive drilling rigs.
Loving the series so far! It would be kinda neat if you built a large grid rover with the firepower to launch an assault on grounded enemy bases, like a battleship/carrier on wheels. Looking forward to seeing more!
I like that you did name the base "Home"! The vehicle is cool, and it's like a little "Runner" that gets you to and from your Home, clearly it's going to be the star of the show, so I would name it "Home Star Runner" :)
Great episode! Love the building, the commentary, and the actions here. So very good. But yeah, like the base! I like the base building. Also that rover was great too. Cool stuff here. So, I wonder why you don't just do a double door mini-fake airlock into that first room. That way you don't have to worry about full depressurization.
The double door is efficient, but I like the idea of having the bigger airlock for aesthetics. It depressurizes quickly so I can set up a script to automate the depressurizing and repressurizing :)
Love the Series, I am also running the scenario that you put on the workshop and one thing I found was that the Wind Turbines "Freeze" in the dark, so produce less power overnight. I will also be taking up your idea of hydrogen engines, I however am planning a "self mining" one with a drill on a piston and a control block in a sub-section of my conveyor system
I am not sure if ti is an active mechanic, I was surprised that they worked at all, as well as being surprised that the Atmo Engines worked on the Drone! It is however what I observed ocxurring
This series is making me really want to play space engineers again, and it's given me so many ideas for my next playthrough. But it also makes me a little depressed because I won't be back at my computer and able to play for another month. I need to write down all my ideas somewhere so I can remember everything when I get back to my PC
I'd suggest putting a small connector on the rover, that way you can use the rover with the drone connected to it to get closer to whatever you're scouting, get to a safe distance for the rover, and then disconnect the drone and send it in for recon. You wouldn't be limited by the drone's antenna range at least, and could more easily manage drone battery life.
To be honest, for the drone, you could get away with giving it a mount on the rover. You could then use it for longer distance exploration by having a mobile Docking port. It may also be worth putting a camera underneath near the connector so you can dock without having to get out the seat
hey Andrewmangaming i downloaded the map and found your ship it is 23.73kn ese from the starting location just wanted to let you know some of the beacons work if you get close to it.
Fresh idea for a new Survival series? Mods would make this idea possible. The two main mods would be the static drills, as well as build and repair. The other mods depending on how difficult you would want this to be would inquire drones and other NPC factions. Get rid of all drills.. ..you probably get the idea by now. Start out with some basic Weaponry to take out light enemies, or find scrap. Have a multitude of different NPC factions fighting amongst themselves, allowing you to get even more scrap passively, but be careful. If you grind down a neutral wreckage, they might not like it too much and become the next enemy faction.. No drilling allowed. Everything manufactured must be from scrap collected. The static drills would mainly be used for Fuel and ammunition production, but could be used for Manufacturing as well. I can think of a couple other games that have a similar "scrap pool" scenario. This could be fun to watch
Andrew! Fun series, and I downloaded the world from the workshop! On the first day, I couldn't find the Co Fe spot and it got to night and I was out of things to do. So I looked at this video again and figured out where the ore was based on your GPS heading and distance from the base. What a cheat I am! How many days till we get Reavers, anyone know?
Name the drone "Drony McDroneFace". It might be handy to give the drone and rover an ore detector. If you put a small connector on the rover you can take Drony with you to extend the recon range. And obv you'll eventually want to make a platform and connector so you can park and charge the rover. I think you mentioned eventually making it an enclosed garage. And if you make an armed drone, call it "Angry McShootFace".
I love the names! Ore detectors are also a great idea, especially for the drone so that I can scout out remote locations. And I like the idea of attaching a connector to the rover so that it can transport the drone! It's probably a more natural way to charge the drone than the rotor to small connector method lol
Also, it might be worth while to put a vent and second door on your front door so you have a proper airlock to avoid venting your sitting room every time you enter.
For attacking that base I would go for a bomber. I always wanted to try one but never had the time. The idea is you fly above the base and hover a little further than the assault cannons range. Then you can drop warheads, ice balls, drills, anything that comes in mind, even refineries :)
Nor sure if you are aware or if it's been suggested. When you progress a bit further for materials, when you build an airlock, instead of using a script or alot of timers etc... just make a 3 block airlock (sounds like a band😂) Door, vent, door...place the vent on permanent depresurazation...as long as the interior door is shut you shouldn't lose any oxygen . Just discovered this recently.
Add a small ejector/connector to the rover so you can have it as a small scout! especially since the antenna is already on the rover. Also for the drone name T.I.C. Tactical Incursion Camera since it's so smoll and maybe attached to the rover

I know it's a bit late since I just saw this video but I figure the name the car might get is "Theseus", based on the Ship of Theseus thought experiment. Basically, the experiment is to try and determine if a ship that was originally built had all its parts progressively replaced, would it still be the same ship? That'd be fitting given how you pretty much fully ground off all the parts of your ship and made a car out of it but the game still refers to it as the ship.
Rolling base! But not a carrier style, but rather one large rover that does it all. Has a mining arm with pistons for reach or something, has offensive guns, etc, etc, etc
14:02 you use more energy because it’s cold outside. Energy consumption increases as temperature varies from “warm.” Edit: having your lights on also increases energy consumption.

45:29 engine needs min power to start tho you had a battery and wind the total draw from all other sources left too little for the engine to start, once you POWER cycled the system it gave just enough to get hydrogen in an and start
Kinda late to the series but loving it so far! Is that build planner and taking out components/putting in comps something new? Been a while since I've played SE.
I recommend you use fancy display v2 script it's really nice especially for interiors and you can put whatever you like battery displays, o2 tank display, cargo capacity, etc and you can format it in anyway you prefer
I know it's just a small ship, but, I'd be Blueprinting everything instead of having to redesign everything from scratch. Since the drone is small enough, and the THOUGHT of military action is there, then putting some of the AI tools on, plopping guns, then blueprinting it, you can easily get a printer going to ship these things out in haste. Might be fun to have a swarm of tiny drones go out and beat those guns up at the base if you've got the distance edge. The AI tools give like 500 meters advantage IIRC? I've been pondering on getting back into SE, single player again. Even though it's been two or three years since I played last, I've purchased all the DLC, so I could put it to use. I might get rid of the reavers in my playthrough though.
You have good points! Actually overwhelming the base's defenses with a swarm of mini drone distractions might be a really good way to get close without being blown to smithereens!
@@AndrewmanGaming (POTENTIAL SPOILERS) For what its worth, I HAVE found a few things out in this world you made. A> There is atmosphere, it's just not breathable. I like to think of the hydro engine like a car engine or like the startup of a jet, you need a source of gas (hydro), a battery to act as a kickstarter, and depending on if you feel like it get a tank to fill
Quick suggestion. I know you have kinda just started and all. BUT what if you get of the planet and make a spaceship. What if you make the ship like some sort of capital ship which you would be able to live in or maybe even a space station it could doc at that would be the centerpiece. I would like to hear any feedback if you get a chance and hear you opinions.
Hold the f on! I have 760 hours in space engineers and never knew there was a shortcut to get your assembler to produce what's on the build planner queue xD
It took me a long time to figure it out too, but it's shift + middle mouse button! And if you do ctrl + shift + middle mouse, you put 10x into the build planner. It's life-changing!
when u playing with hydro engines have u tried to turn off base power and turn it on to reboot the system that is what i have to do when activating the engines for the first time
It would be cool if in a playthrough, you couldn't use Oxygen Tanks to store oxygen, and you had to instead build a dedicated room to store your oxygen in.

Call the drone Hummingbird, 'cause it's flitting about & sticking its beak in places!
You should put a ore detectors on the drone so you can go out with the drone and find resources
A simple way to attack the base could be to install a detachable bomb under the drone and to kill the turrets from 1.2km above the base.
If you end up doing a ramming vehicle for the attack I would make it remote controlled so you can hit it hard. Maybe some rocket power too.
Butterfly, Hummingbird, and [any type of] Bee works [honey, bumble, busy, sweat, squash, carpenter, etc]
@42:47 you are hovering directly over the nickel hole.
I'd call the drone the "Ice Flee or Ice Sprite".
"When in doubt, make another hole" ;)
Fun fact: you can grind loose ore chunks ( like the ice in your iron hole) to get rid of it.
Whaaaaat?! I didn't know that!
شكرا على هذه الحلقة التي كنت انتظرها بفارغ الصبر
Awesome!
Your the 12th channel I've sub to.
You can put auto cannons on the small drone and attack the base or nearby ships.
To cannons are great, but against heavy calliver like the assult cannons, it would take longer than just digging there
If you put a curved window in front of your doors it creates an airtight seal because the windows are airtight it may not look it but it works
If you’re ever having the issue with your h2 engines just build a h2 tank. You should have a tank anyways for when you build ships.
I’m Always a fan of sniping the turret.
Based upon shape, id suggest we call the rover the Frost Beetle
When building engines always have them “off” before the block is complete for them to work properly once built
It's life-changing!
when u playing with hydro engines have u tried to turn off base power and turn it on to reboot the system that is what i have to do when activating the engines for the first time
I’m taking it out of context.
Ummm... too late. Out of context. lol. Great playthrough. I am going to install this again, been years.
It would be cool if in a playthrough, you couldn't use Oxygen Tanks to store oxygen, and you had to instead build a dedicated room to store your oxygen in.
