    3:04 roy did call subaru brother before, but with different honorific. he called "hey onii-san, did you have grudge to us?" back on top of the city hall. but the differences is, here roy called julius "truly, nii-sama is always splendid as i imagined."
    if you already been in the anime community for long time, you should understand that "-sama" is used to highly respect someone, while "-san" is just to respect someone. also, "onii-sama" only used by an actual siblings/adoptive siblings/someone who are really close, which caught julius off guard because he only met roy once and it was during the battle at city hall.

    I don't remember where but there was also another mistranslation that either added or omitted a "not" so the sentence made direct opposite sense of what it was supposed to be

  • @JMC-pn6mh

    What is worse about the mistranslation is that THEY NEVER CHANGED IT FOR THE DUB. Like I checked out the Dub and the VA's poured their hearts out on the wrong script. It's so bad man.

    I've noticed alot in subtitles they omit brother or sister when the character cleary says onii or onee san. Granted it was sometimes when the characters weren't related and were just being saying how close they feel towards the other or just playing, but you loose that when they leave it out of translation.

    • @johnyshadow
      @johnyshadow 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah, it´s missing in a lot of anime. No idea why.
      Often the spoken line will have "brother/sister", and the subs will just have their name, "he/she/etc.", or nothing.

    • @tama47_
      @tama47_ วันที่ผ่านมา

      You should blame English in this case, because in Japanese and other languages, words like “Onii” and “Onee” don’t have to mean being related. Just someone older in the respected gender. We don’t have a word like that in English. The closest would be something like “Bro” when you call your friend or someone who is slightly older. But obviously that doesn’t fit in this context either.

    CR has mistranslated or missed translating something for every episode of Season 3. Ice (one of the Web Novel Translators and the Person you showed in the Video) has been correcting wrong translations for every episode of Season 3 Cour 1 and I don't see it not happening with Cour 2 either continuing.

  • @tama47_
    @tama47_ วันที่ผ่านมา

    3:27 I tested 3 different translators and all of them include “brother”. AI or machine translation is very literal and will translate every word more often than omitting words. I really believe this is a translator thing, ie. they are not paid enough to care or the person wasn’t deep into the LN to catch the nuances.
    It’s also a language thing, as words like that aren’t common usage in English and I can see why they would translate to “you” instead for the casuals. Gluttony also refers to Subaru and others often as “nii-san” when they’re not related.

    I watched it on a... shady... source, and it had the better translated version. I then saw it through a reactor who saw the Crunchyroll version. There was another big difference. On the version we saw, Rienhard makes it clear that the blessing of the phoenix is a one time save, but in the Crunchyroll version he just says he died and would rather not die again but doesn't say anything about the blessing being limited. It seriously changes the felt stakes in the fight he's currently going through with Cornilius. Honestly ridiculous that the paid official source for watching it has the worse translation than the pirate sites. If you're going to charge, you need a better product.

    • @kingcrimson293
      @kingcrimson293 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Actually, in that context the CR translation is more accurate, because Reinhard can always regain the blessing of the phoenix, like forever (this was stated by the author)

    I'll have to rewatch the episode, cos I'm sure I missed some things. Yeah, I got the impression Gluttony was imitating Julios' brother. Gruesome, and weird, if Gluttony did Joshua dirty off screen. Where was Joshua supposed to be, was he even in the city?
    This seems to be the first time we see this "ability" in the anime. Does this mean we will see Gluttony reference Rem's memories? Subaru will have to confront this guy.
    Bruh: Julios and Wolf-Guy using each other's real names in front of Gluttony had me pressed. Why? We just gotta assume Gluttony wouldn't hear them!?

    Crunchyroll is definitely using a translator app. Even in another show i watched yesterday, its one about the greatest alchemist. Episode 6 has a horse that the MC names “Tsubaki” and yet they translated it as Camelia even though its a name and shouldnt get translated.
    That and the “might as well master magic” when fighting a golem and the princess gives directions to beat it, crunchyroll mistranslated that as well.
    They have done it in so many shows that its disappointing to see better subs on pirate sites because i have tried to stay away from those and actually pay but how can someone want to pay for this level of “quality”

    I mean... you're right, and it seems from comments that I assume have read ahead in the manga that it *is* meant to be a reveal... but it is also *very* common to call an unrelated young man 'brother' (more so in anime than in real life). If you don't already know it's an important reveal, it's pretty natural to convert it to 'you' because honestly, even if it is an actual relationship, we don't normally go around calling our brothers "brother" to their face. Should the translator have read the entire manga in the original Japanese before translating the anime so that they would know that it *is* an important reveal? Well.... in theory. But honestly, they aren't paid for that, or well enough to do it in their free time if it wasn't already on their reading list.
    Now, the 別人 as 'another name' ... that's just a straight up wrong. It can only mean 'a different person'. I find that much more unforgivable because even if it is less important, there's no justifying it.

      As far as I know, it is common to call strangers onii-san, but Roy specifically called Julius onii-sama, which is reserved for genuine family members. It's the little things that end up being rather significant in terms of storytelling and foreshadowing, so to miss something like this when the author intentionally put it in as a hint is a shame. I've never been a fan of Crunchyroll honestly, and this just keeps me even further away.

    • @tama47_

      It’s not “more common in anime”, that’s literally how Japanese people use the word, to describe someone older. English doesn’t have a good substitute for that and I guess Crunchyroll ways of dumbing it down for the casuals is to localize the word “Nii” to “You”.
