Thank you for the review! I’m looking for waterproof shoes with decent treads as rainy day walking shoes. I’m having a hard time because Xero and Vivo are not wide enough, and Altra is too stiff. Howgill might work for me, I will give it a try!
nice review as always. I do not have a pair of these, but I do have a pair of tanga. I love them though, without socks, I find that the upper (it's the coffee material) does cut into my ankle, as it is fairly high
…thanks for the vid. question, is there a „howgill with a city outsole“, so a waterproof or water resistant knit material sort of ultraflexible bootie (or lowcut) with an outsole like eg in the xero prios?
Yea, the Mukishoes Chealsea is extremely flexible and can be strongly waterproofed with some leather balm (beeswax/lanolin). It's mid cut, tho. th-cam.com/video/oXRi3jSGO_A/w-d-xo.html Forlow cut Vivobarefoot is soon releasing a "Tracker Low" shoe that should be excellent (not out yet). I had the original Primus Trek shoe, which is similar, and still use them seven years later.
@@AndrewFolts thanks! interesting. though tough to get my hands/feet on them fast…will try to give them a try…here a follow up question, if i may: the xero denver would be available in my city…which one is more flexible in your opinion, the leather or the canvas version?
@@aurelgergey5470 The canvas is more flexible. th-cam.com/video/Nkc4Zrf__F0/w-d-xo.html The leather is more waterproof once you put some balsam on it. th-cam.com/video/Nkc4Zrf__F0/w-d-xo.html. Although you can wax canvas pretty effectively too.
@@AndrewFolts Priceless advice! So, there's hope. Today I walked through cold rain with my Xero Dillans, until they were so soaking wet that they doubled in weight:-)
Hello Andrew how you doing ? Theres 2 things i want to ask before buying my primus trail III fgs. For starters id like to ask what size to choose.I have pretty big feet,29cms and i usually go with EU 48 but i tried a 48.5-49ish shoe the last year and it feels better. Why ? Because apart from being a bit extra longer its also a big wider which gives me a lot of room to breathe. Now that shoe aint barefoot but its zero drop so up until now, which is the time theyre starting to fall apart, they are great. But i really dont know what size to choose my trail III fgs.Supposedly i should go for 48 but looking at their length,29cms,it feels like im doing the wrong choise. My current shoes are closer to 31-32 cms so theoretically i should choose the EU 49 one.But then again not all shoes are equal. Some may be EU 48 and be longer than 49s and some may be EU 49 and be shorter than 48s.Up until now i never have chosen a shoe from afar,i always visit the store and try them out and this is different. What is your opinion on this specific model ? Should i choose bigger or go with my number ? Also how many returns do they accept ? If 49 is too large and 48 is also too big will they be ok with a return ? My second question is about discount codes. What is up with them ? Ive searched the internet and there seem to be plenty 20-25% discount codes flying around but only 10-15% ones seem to work.I live in Europe so maybe they only work in the US or something ? Also on reddit people posting referral codes and saying 20-25% only gives me 15%.Is that some bug or did they reduce the amount of discount you can get either via referral or from a random website ? Other than that id like to say that i like your reviews and videos and youre the one ive mostly watched regarding this kind of shoes :)
I always order my usual size in Vivo's and they work great with room at the end, but check their printable size templates to be sure. www.vivobarefoot.com/media/wysiwyg/pdf/vivo-mens-size-guides-2022-US2.pdf I think you can do multiple returns as far as I know. Also, Vivo only does 20% discounts at holiday time. Usually it's 10-15%. Like mine is FOLTSY10 but they gave me FOLTSY15 for a March promo. You can always check Revivo for discounts up to 50%. bit.ly/3MEsjBm
@@AndrewFolts Thank you for your quick reply.I talked to them and they told me theyve stopped giving 20-25% discounts a few years back. Regarding size i just ordered my shoes EU 49 and since they told me i can return them as many times as i want theres nothing to really worry about.
Man that's wild, my longest foot is 26.5cm and I usually wear a 41@@AndrewFolts. What size vivos do you wear if you have a pair of Primus trail or similar?
@@robertsoliz6821 There is no way you're fitting a 26.5 cm foot into a size 41 shoe. It literally wouldn't even get in. My feet are 27.5 cm and I wear 44-46. You've measured your feet wrong. Did you use Vivo's crappy auto sizing thing with the camera? You need to measure using a pen and paper.

Hey Andrew!
Your code seems to be expired on Freet.
@@shantabraamyan3103 Try AF10. Annoyingly Freet decided to create a new discount code, rather than just reactivate my old one.
It's named after the 'Howgills' a beautiful and unique range of rounded mountains at the top of the Yorkshire dales. A great place :-)
Oh cool! Certainly seem like they'd be great for that kind of terrain.

It should, yea. The upper is very stretchy with lots of room and good water resistance. Let me know how it goes!

Tanga looks rad as well. Will have to try them this summer. Freet do feel really nice barefoot!

How does the water resistance on these rank compared to the magna trails and magna light water resistant? Or lone peak all weather?
It's similar, will deflect water, but will soak through eventually if it stays wet long enough.

When's the Jikatabi Video dropping? 🥺
It's on the list, I just still have a ton of other shoes to get through. They keep piling up, ha.
How wide are these compared to the belenka?
Wider than other Freet's. Almost extra-wide, but Be Lenka has a bit more room.
Belenkas gave me issues with height. They were so "flat" that i couldnt get my foot in. Freet on the other hand are good for me 😂

26.67 cm
