Dear superdeadrooster,, Based on that name, i think you should become ORTHODOX asap!.😏 As the Holy Spirit prepares you and leads the way, of course.. Be careful though: you might have to change that handle. ☦😏☦
Fr Josiah, Fr Turbo Qualls, and Fr Peter Heers are like the three key TH-cam priests for Orthodoxy (for me, not to exclude any of the many other good priests doing similar work)
St Raphael is on our iconostasis on the far left, the Archangel Michael side. Last Pascha on Holy Saturday, during two separate liturgies, the lampada in front of his icon suddenly began moving in a circle very strongly and continued to move the entire time. That Saturday, there were many entering the church by baptism or chrismation, so I believe St Raphael of Brooklyn was there welcoming them to the American Orthodox church he gave his life to build.
I truly enjoyed learning this. I will have to visit The Antiochian Village in Ligoner the next time I'm home in Pittsburgh. I wish the Orthodox churches across America would come together to open Charter Schools to educate our youth! What a blessing that would ve. .
I was blessed to be at the grave of St. Raphael last week at Antiochian Village. You can feel the grace throughout the entire place- there’s just something special and peaceful about AV. Thank you for this wonderful reflection, Father.
Thank you for this reflection! St. Raphael consecrated our church, St. George Orthodox, in Charleston, WV sometime around or shortly after 1911. This is the church where I became an Orthodox Christian ❤ I am glad to learn more about him through your video and especially touched by the quote you shared, “ I am an Arab by birth, a Greek by education, a Slav in soul, a Russian at heart and American by citizenship” and the fact that he fought vigorously against phyletism. God is glorified in His saints! ☦
Father, thank you so much. I attend Saint Raphael Of Brooklyn Orthodox Church in Inverness, Florida. Father, can you tell me where you obtained the cross you wear, that looks like a large prayer rope? Thank you, brother Iakovos.
Fun fact: In late July of this year, his relics will be dug up and placed in the chapel at the Antiochian Village. Be there if can, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Bless, Father! Thank you for sharing this moving tribute to St. Raphael of Brooklyn. Although I am in the Greek Orthodox Church, I have many dear friends who are Antiochian and have known about St. Raphael for many years, but I really did not know anything about his life. Your account was truly inspiring, so again, thank you!
Although he had been canonized by the US Antiochian Archdiocese and the OCA, being commemorated today, at the request of Metropolitan Saba St Raphael was also added to the calendar of the worldwide Antiochian Church during the last Holy Synod meeting about a month ago, and now he is also to be celebrated on Feb. 27. So I guess now he is commemorated twice a year in the US.
He already was commemorated twice a year in America. The OCA Celebrates on the date of Repose and Antioch Celebrates him on the first Saturday of November. And then in Ukraine he is Commemorated on All Saints of Kiev Seminary.
Thank you for this inspirational reflection... I am reminded of the affinity I discovered for the Russian People as a high school pupil studying the Russian Language in the first such class taught in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1965. My first knowledge of Orthodoxy came a few years later, when I read about a lost Russian Icon. I felt drawn to know more, but did not pursue it. I wondered about the surprising affinity to the Russian People, and to know more about Orthodoxy, for decades, until I heard more last year. I am learning "more" ever since! Your videos are very helpful! When you read Saint Raphael's description of himself, I was moved that he said he was Russian in his soul... I don't understand fully yet, but I know that of the known multi-ethnic combinations of my soul, Russia bear's an important role. Somehow, hearing Saint Raphael's story, makes me know this more clearly... Thank you, again, for your important work!
Wow! Fr Josiah! Your comments are on!!! It's been awhile since I've been to your channel. I appreciate you letting us engage ❤ I saw your video in my feed & I know nothing of St Raphael. I'm grateful to learn about him. Thank-you for the work you do.
St. Raphael pray for all those blinded by ethnic love, phyletism. Macedonia was not Greek. Some parts are now, geographically part of it. Phyletism is here today, just like in the yesterday's video it is also in this video by not allowing Paul's Macedonia be recognized. The Mother of God our Theotokos has already been clear on the recognition of the true people that called the Apostle. The brothers on Mt.Athos know that. I live in the west and this illness is all over the churches sadly most prevalent in the Greek churches. Christ open our eyes to see our ugliness and help us to fulfill the commandment of loving our neighbors as ourselves and as we love You our God.
Someone asked about the book "Rock and Sand" the other day. They couldn't find a copy. I did a search for him, and I think the least expensive copy I could find was like $244.00. Anyone know if this will be reprinted or a better place to get it?
What torture to deny His powers as already given!!! Spread across the earth as a field of flowers for herbs of healing. For to be picked by Fathers loving hands and dispersed to all in need! Yes to pick them is to be tempted by them, to have their perfumed grace tempting almost beyond duration with unseen powers and principalities of impious self indulgent gratification. But that test surely must be had and passed or failed. Or the Fathers stay in fear. Not even knowing they are already tested there as well. Failing through a strange new perverse worldly piety while flowers in the field bloom and die in the round of years. Aging surely toward the end.
@@mese5080 so someone has a problem for which she wants god’s help. let’s give a name to it, “find a job”. so far she has been unsuccessful finding a job which she needs to support her family. She is a believer and lives a good life. she prays to god for days/weeks/months seeking help in finding a job. still no job. for some reason, omniscient, omnipotent god hears her but does not help. Now she prays to St Raphael. St Rafael hears her and goes to god and convinces god to intercede on her behalf and coordinate a meeting with her and an appropriate employer who does hire her. is that right?
I'm not Orthodox (yet, lol) but i do love this man's videos! There's a very special quality he possesses.

I was Baptised for St. Raphael of Brooklyn.
I almost always have to clarify, "The Bishop, Not the Archangel".
Thank you

When will rock and sand be available to buy online again? 😁
