It is mentioned in the opening credits of every episode:
based on the TV series "Kommisar Rex" created by Peter Hajek and Peter Moser.
Originally it was a co-poduction of TV stations ORF (Austria) and Sat.1 (Germany) between 1994-2004, set in Vienna.
It was rebooted by Italian Station Rai Uno from 2007-2014, this time set in Rome, but still linked to the original production ...
The series ran for a total of 214 episodes.
It is a real love between John and Diesel .

What an absolute gem this show is. I was so excited when it first came on tv. I watched Kommisar Rex (Austrian) years ago and loved it. I think Diesel is a gorgeous dog and to watch the excellent relationship he has with John is just amazing. Now I can enjoy all of these shows. Thanks to all of the crew, John and of course Rex. That was totally amazing! I love the show! While I love "Charlie" and "Rex's" relationship (it was so cute in this interview seeing John talk to Diesel the way Charlie talks to Rex on the show), "Rex" was the reason that I started watching the show and now, I can't get enough of it. 😊😊❤❤

This is a brilliant show deisal is so like my Jerry Lee whome we lost sudden and we me and my grandchildren could love both everyday
I love this show. It's the first time in a long time that one of the main characters is a German Sheppard. The last time I remember a Canadian show featuring a dog is The Littlest Hobo and that was back in the late 1970"s/ 80"s. Season 6 is fantastic. I love every episode from every season and watch it over and over again.
I don't own a dog but I just love the chemistry between Hudson and Rex. This interview shows us that John Reardon and Desiel have a great off screen relationship as well.
There was a few episodes of "Due South" which featured a white wolf called "Diefenbaker" The wolf was deaf, as I remember....

❤ I have been binge watching Hudson and Rex for 2 days. Into second season. So pleased to hear there there's 3 more for me to enjoy. The plots are complicated that sets it's above average whodoneit shows. Rex is wonderful bringing all his K9 talent ❤❤

We are watching season 5 in the uk on the Now Box, think it’s the last two episodes coming up. Love the show. Appreciate all the work that goes into training Diesel, although he’s a natural on screen and appears to know exactly what is going on and takes everything in. ❤

I noticed that the same company that puts out Hudson & Rex also puts out the Murdock series. Their faith in the Murdock series gives me hope that this series will continue for a few more years. I have not missed one episode of of either show. Canadian TV has a much higher quality of TV series!

This is one of the best shows on TV. I really enjoy therelationship between Charlie and Rex, it is so heartwarming with a touch of excitement in every episode. I have also enjoyed the growing relationship between Charlie and Sarah and enjoy the intimacy that has grown between the two characters. All in All the relationship between the four main characters and the vista of St Johns and Newfoundland is so nice to see. I am glad to see a Canadian show coming from Newfoundland as that province was the first place we saw when my family came to Canada.

I get super excited when I know that there is another season, 'cos I absolutely love this show! The amazing chemistry between Diesel and John is pure poetry. I really enjoy watching the whole cast do their crime-fighting thang in beautiful Canada😀 I'm so happy there is a new season of this family-friendly show that my teenage son and I can enjoy together.
