I grew up watching bowling in the 50s and continued to watch as a young adult. But it wasn't until Mark Roth came along that I started to bowl leagues and tournaments. I look forward to the ToC and the PBA doubles events each year to see him and watch his many highlights. Even as an old man I still bowl league, thank you for the memories. RIP Mark Roth - the "original cranker."

A true legend. I watched Mark through the 70's, 80's and into the 90's week after week dominating the PBA tour. The original cranker. Every week it was either Roth, Anthony or Holman up on top. Bowling has lost an icon; the first bowler to convert the 7-10 on television and winner of 34 titles on tour. 8 of them in 1978 alone--that, along with Earl Anthony and many others, made me a bowler in my teen years and beyond. to take his hand out of the ball and let it do the work for him, not as easy
as it sounds. Mark had a bent elbow not good with the new equipment.

What this man could do with a bleeder yellow dot was amazing
He didn't need a hook in the box, all he needed was his right wrist and leg power.

Roth had a big impact on my developing game when I was a teenager. I was trained in the 4-step "Dick Ritger" style. Mark came along as lanes were changing from lacquer to urethane & he showed us all what power (aka revs) could do to raise your game. RIP legend.

What a bummer! I'm so sorry to hear about his passing. I watched him every Saturday on PBA bowling back in the day. He had the power strikes, but he was also one of the best spare makers on tour. RIP Mark.

The very last thing I expected to see. Very shocked and sad he's gone, only 70 years old... left _way_ too soon. I never knew him personally, but he will forever be remembered as the guy who dominated bowling with his 'cranker' style and being the first bowler to convert the 7-10 split on TV.
    Rest in peace, Mark Roth.
