If the given length is not divisible by the no of required equal parts then we have to follow the graphical method. For example if I want to divide 50mm length into seven equal parts then each equal part would be of 50/7=7.1428mm. For this measurement of 7.1428mm we can't use scale as least count of scale is 1mm. We can take 7mm in scale but then what about left out part 0.1428?
Construct a parabola when the distance of the focus from the directrix is 50 mm. Draw the tangent at 25 mm on it from the focus. 3. Construct a hyperbola when the distance of the focus from the directrix is 65 mm and eccentricity is 3/2. Draw the tangent at 25 mm on it from the focus.
