The language of all asian moms: FOOD. My mom and I had so much fun making this!!! ❤️ I think this is one of my favorite videos ever. In this bilingual what i eat in a day video, my mom shares her recipes of my favorite foods & and many are from both our childhoods. We make zucchini pancakes, beijing zha jiang mian, meat buns, borscht soup, pearl meatballs, and veggies!!!!!!! Getting hungry writing this hahah. The recipes listed below are not exact (we don't measure T_T) but please share pictures with me if you guys decide to try it out ~~~

Zucchini Pancake
2 zucchini
3 eggs
salt to taste/ 1 tbsp sesame oil
2 cups flour
4 tbsp unsalted chicken stock
Sauce: chopped garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, chili oil
Lazy Dragon Roll/Bun
Dough:
2.5 cups flour
1-2 tsp active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
warm water
Filling:
minced pork
3 tbsp cooking wine
2 tbsp unsalted chicken stock
1/4 cup soy sauce
sesame oil
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
Beijing Zha Jiang Mian
pork belly
1:1 yellow bean sauce to sweet bean sauce
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp sugar
toppings: cucumbers, radish, bean sprouts, carrots
Borscht Soup
Beef bones + back ribs (can also just use bones)
green onion, ginger, cooking wine (to clean)
onion, carrots, potatoes, tomato, cabbage
8 oz can tomato sauce, 4 oz tomato paste
salt, sugar, and white pepper to taste
Pearl Meatballs
sticky rice (aka sweet rice)
minced pork
green onion
shiitake mushrooms, shrimp
For filling:
3 tbsp cooking wine
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 tbsp sesame oil
potato starch
Leafy Greens
any leafy green you want + garlic + oil + salt :-)

This was so healing. My Nai Nai was Chinese but she died pretty young when I was still a teenager. My one regret is not cooking with her more and learning how she made my favourite dishes. So I love watching other people take the time to cook with and learn from their parents/grandparents even tho it makes me cry every time 😭

As a 1st gen Chinese-European with Beijing-born parents, this was so fun and relatable to watch!! I love to see how other Chinese immigrants cook and pass their traditions and language onto their children. It’s honestly so interesting picking up on the differences and similarities in the dishes, even in the vocabulary you grow up using. Thank you for sharing this, Jasmine and Jasmine’s mama! ❤
