See you were listening to this when it was new I bet. So what high school for you was in early 1998 -2003 somewhere? I didn't go to high school till 2004-2008 and I'm 31. So I came into this scene late. Heard the Get up kids first. Four minute mile is the best thing that's ever happened. And Yeah Old Brand New and Saves the day. By the time I was blasting this everyday everyone else was into Taking back Sunday Cute without the e kinda stuff and dashboard confessional still. The killers Were huge but sucked. Nothing like the late 90s Harder Indie rock. This is gonna sound square but one of the best albums I ever heard when I was in middle school was Enema of the state. That album is what made me like that kind of music
lifetime's contribution to the scene at the time can't be understated, but truth be told i think their real legacy is found in all the bands that can trace direct lineage to them.
@@GatorShins-CovenDev what!?!?! I guess that's a matter of musical taste, and taste in types of vocals because this was a great record after jerseys best dancers came out and then lifetime broke up but, there's no avoiding that this almost basically a pop punk record with some shades of hardcore. Lifetime on the other hand went through significant transitions in their style of music always staying close to their roots being hardcore. Hello bastards may be the best record I've ever heard. I feel that record was perfect but, it's just my taste. There's is no doubt about it tho that when hello bastards was released it made waves and Inspired so many bands to emulate that style. Some of the first bands that come to mind for me is of course saves the day,,atleast this first record. I heard some influe nce in thrice first record, Fairweather and taking back Sunday. There's a couple more I just can't remember. Oh, kid dynamite but then again that band had 2 members of lifetime. Anyways, you guys know o any bands that came out with similar style and sound?
@@andrewpjames4533 The Movielife, Midtown, The Stryder, Staring Back, and early Brand New all had obvious Lifetime influence as well. Basically all the poppy emocore bands of the late 90s/early 00s. I think it even comes through in later bands like Title Fight and the Wonder Years. Oh, and obviously New Found Glory were very Lifetime-influenced, with their first album especially sounding like ironic Lifetime.
I'm 39 and still get goosebumps to this song. A masterpiece.
