Honestly SEGA could make a peak Sonic game following this formula. Like just tricking and styling your way through a well designed level with some light combat sprinkled in, but as a mobility feature rather than purely focusing on killing enemies. Then you get Sonic Frontiers boss fights for that adrenaline rush.
That would be so good.

this is actually what I was hoping there'd be more of in the base game.
The dream-memory sections were close, but I feel like there's no sense of momentum after a while and some of the platforming is lacklustre. This style of gauntlet with multiple routes and a constantly building speed (supported by the constant slide pads) was what was missing imo.
