I had to ring in sick to go to this game , i rang my boss from kfc toilets and all he could hear was pissed up fans in the background , i got final written warning and PNE got beat , gutted !!! lol
Thats a highlight reel Ive never seen before . As a Bolton fan It was obviously a great day and i think our experience in 2 previous play offs told . However It was Matt Clarkes save at the start of the first half that won us the game IMO . I dont like our fans gloating ...be gracious in victory an sporting in defeat .....and PNE did take more fans than us .
Those Preston fans are top lads, not sure about them " outnumbering" us though, stats dont back that up....Big Sam says in his book that Moyes had some less then complimentary things to say about BWFC in the build up....his team talk was done for him. Great day to be a wanderer, at the time of writing we are about to start in league two whilst PNE are in championship, hope they both are successful.
Bolton had been in league cup final 95, play off final 95, play off final 98, fa cup semi final 2000. We had played at Wembley a lot around that time where as it was still a novelty big day for Preston.
Must have been a right sickener for Preston fans. I’ve watched the Clarets in 2 play off finals and know how nail biting it is. Would like to see PNE in the Premier be a great Derby. As for Bolton they’re 10 years in front of us according to Judas Coyle UTC
I'd passed my driving test a few weeks earlier, and this was a lads road trip, with my first ever time driving on the motorways. Not gonna lie, I was terrible and could easily have caused several accidents on the way back. Thankfully more experienced drivers managed to avoid me drifting lanes like an amateur. Dont remember much of the game to be honest, other than thing the scoreline didn't reflect the run of play. Preston were a dangerous side.
Great to see Sir Tom Finney and Nat Lofthouse there watching their clubs. Lancashire legends.
Went to this game with my dad as a kid and nothing but great memories as a BWFC fan
As a Trotter is easy to gloat. I really hope Preston get in the top flight. Burnley being there is awesome. North West soccer rules!
Gimp

I remember it well, one of the best games I have ever been to.

Preston couldn't outnumber Bolton even at Deepdale...the lad was deluded.
There were 32,000 Preston Fans and 26000 Bolton fans. These are The facts.
Watching West Ham v Leeds in 2023, Moyes v Allardyce. This is a vintage!
Was a good day to be a trotter. 😛😛😛
Will be a long time before that happens again

Yes I know it was at Cardiff, point is most of those Preston fans hadn't had the big game final experience.
Playoffs 1999 not 98. Bolton were in the premier league in 97/98

Outnumbering bolton fans?
BWFC
Town of preston it a city lol
It wasn't then. It was granted city status for the Golden Jubilee the following year.
I were there only one white team in north west Bolton
What a biased edit of the final.
Unlucky Preston but bolton put you in your place, oh well maybe one day you will get there😂😂😂
..but recently you are not doing too well being in the 4 th tier last season 😉
preston got thrashed.
