Only real musicians understand how amazing this is. Music is Communication, it doesn't matter if the words you are using are complex or simple, what matters is HOW you say it. +MrDT543 Levon Helm used to throw the kick in to his fills a lot with the Band. A drummer who knows how to do that really takes his playing to another level.

His groove and pocket are phenomenal. his time-keeping is out of this world. He never overplays something and his feel is ALWAYS there. To me, That's what makes him so special.
How can anyone DISLIKE a groove maestro like Steve Jordan. It's beyond me. The man examplifies what drumming is about: groovy accompaniment, nothing more, nothing less. Play on maestro!
Steve Jordan has pushed simplicity to its most complex edge. One would need at least 30 years of playing experience to actually be able to get a sound like that
My favorite drummer out there right now. The man just lays down the grooves -- love everything about his style. Simple elegance, economy and impeccable timing. Great match up with John Mayer.
Exactly. One of the things that I don't think that I noted is that drummers like Steve have MASTERED pocket playing. Take any young cat (like myself), and we may be able to groove, but we are going to make mistakes. A drummer of Steve's experience can make a groove go for HOURS and NEVER make a mistake. That's what we all want to aspire to. That's what a real drummer does.
This is so freaking smooth and effortless, he makes it look and sound easy. But, I know, because of years experience playing drums that what he's doing is badass as anything anyone listening will hear. Amazing talent.
Watching him you can see that the drums are truly an INSTRUMENT, like an oboe or a violin, and can be musical, not just a rhythm-keeping pile of hardware. There is musicality and immense artistry in this man.
When you add chops to this kind of playing, you get artistry. And some of us need to appreciate what this man does in this video as art... Keith Carlock told me that he tries to channel this same basic grit in everything that he does. Thank you Mr. Jordan!
Good God!!! He is so smooth and tight on the drums even someone who's never held a stick in their hand, and can barely play a radio, think they can sit down behind a kit and play too. He's not playing 220 bpm, or doing anything so freaking intricate it would be folly to try and figure out most or all those licks. But, playing with the same precision yet not over playing ever single lick at the same time, and still groove as Steve Jordan does is rare indeed.
This is the only metronome that can swing in this world, Take a bow for Steve Jordan 🙏 Simplicity at it's peak which is quite complicated to achieve Totally in love with this beast
The measure of a musician/artist/drummer such as Mr. Jordan... how many different artists with differing styles of music have not only asked Mr. Jordan to not only play for them, but been willing to pay to have him play. And repeat customers? That tells me he's a player that's there to serve the music, serve the artist and make music that feels good and stirs emotion! Excellent!
I love the way Steve Jordan plays, he bring that nice solid pocket funk groove like the James brown band back in the day, just make you wanna bob ya head to the groove!!!!

Hate his playing - there's something about the way he hits the snare that I just don't like. Also he doesn't swing. I shudder to think how he's going to sound with The Stones
Found this again....watched like 35 times. Again. Sheesh. Yall it the swing in his foot, so laid on the backside of the beat, its mesmerizing. One of my lifelong favorites, this guy. Ninja level grooves. I could drive an f150 right down the middle of the backbeats its so wide. Steve Jordan if you this , props man. You changed the way I played and approached the drums years ago. No doubt. Goind luck
It's a little known fact that metronomes practice time keeping by playing along to Steve Jordan.
Actually, he is not at all like that. His bass drumming in this beat is laid off.
Metronome don’t have to pratice time keeping, because they are machine, and they are simply programmed to play equally spaced beats
