I live around the corner from a MC and actually picked up 12 of these already for some additional spanned storage in my PC's lol. I just keep getting coupons and my local MC could care less that I keep coming back. And half of the them were the old 2017 models that have DRAM cache! Turns out these Inland 240gb SSD's back in 2018 changed their layout and went from a Centon C-380 with DRAM to DRAMless. The way you can tell is the old 2017 models are completely made out of metal and the newer ones without DRAM are plastic. I was wondering why half of mine were plastic with brass inserts and the other half were made out of metal so I looked into it. Scored big time getting ones with DRAM lol I'm guessing Microcenters warehouse had a bunch of these piled up over the years because they weren't selling and decided to give them away as a promotion. That's why Im getting models that are from years ago.
Do you mean the casing of the SSD is made out of metal? Because I tried putting a magnet and it doesn't stick. Do the metal ones have a distinct numbering in them in their SN or model #?
@@marlasarron5464 Yes the casing of the SSD is made out of metal. Not all metal is magnetic. Metals like aluminum, brass, etc. are not magnetic so the fact a magnet won't stick to it means nothing. I believe the metal casing is made out of aluminum. The way you can tell the difference and tell if you got a metal one or the new plastic one is by looking at the screw holes. The metal one has just bare holes. No fittings for the screw. But on the plastic SSD Inland is using now it has brass fittings in each hole for the screw. That's the main way you can tell the difference other then the fact the metal one is heavier and feels smoother then the plastic one. There's no difference in serial numbers or anything because it's still being sold as the same exact product. Just different eternals. It's extremely rare that you will get the good metal one from microcenter anymore because they discontinued it back in 2017 and from then on only have the DRAMless crappy plastic ones. I got lucky and got some old supply.
@Pabz Roz I have checked that I have 240gb I get few months back and I check all old videos but they all look same have can you see if old dram cache box has 3 year warranty to new non deram drive 4 year warranty ?
Yo I want to get the free ssd but I've used my phone number before to get a free cheap 1 dollar wireless headphone. I want to know if they ever tried verifications, like making sure that it's your phone number. I can just get them by using my mom's number or something if they don't
@@Threegale No they don't do any verifications. They don't look at ID nothing. Just use your family and friends phone numbers I did that as well no problem and a new email. Then just have whoever text you the coupon to your phone after they get it. When you go in and they scan your coupon they're just going to ask your name and address and phone number and sometimes email. Make up any name you want, make up any address you want, and just use your friend or families phone number you used to get the coupon and the email you used. It's that easy lol. No issues at all they do not care or verify anything. Trust me you're good. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I manipulated their coupons like this lol. At least 20 times from a bunch of free SSD's to half off 3D printers to massive deals on CPU's etc. etc.
Better than HDD in some speed cases, and a good upgrade for ancient laptops on SATA and HDD. It's still not a good drive, but if it's free, then so be it if you need one.
I was just in microcenter picking up my free drive, and they have 256 gb NVMe drives for like 50 bucks. Spend the extra 20 bucks and get the great drive instead of a "slightly better than literally free" drive.
It's fine for storage, it's just cheap and not very fast. It should not be, nor should any drive, be an only spot valuable files are stored on. You need multiple copies, with one preferably offsite.

Not a big shock that a "free" ssd from Microcenter is not going to be top of the line. Or even middle of the line. They make more $$ off your name and phone # than they ever will off a cheap drive like this.
If you drop it, the disk won't shatter on the HDD because it doesn't have an HDD. That's a problem for when you are trying to get metal shards to use for a prison shive.
@@StorageReview thanks for the replies, what would you recommend be used as an external drive for a PS4? Can be an internal drive as I already have a SATA enclosure
I have more than 16,000 hours of use on one of these drives and 12,000 hours on another one . A third I have more than 20,000 hours on it. What's the problem. Never lost a file . Never had any trouble at all. I used them for crypto mining and had no problems .
People are pretty elitist about hardware in general. There's a mentality that if it's anything less than a Samsung Evo drive, then it's not a good product. I've used inland drives for years too, and they run fine.
Hard to stay awake watching this channel.
Thanks!

As long as you don’t mind it being slow.
