What Disney is doing, by the way, is completely a violation of antitrust laws and netflix should ABSOLUTELY sue. You can't use a monopoly in one area, content, and use it to give you an unfair advantage in another area, delivery. If it were the normal Disney content, that would be one thing and a closer case, but the purchases of Lucas Films, Marvel, and now Fox gives them such a large portion of all entertainment content that they have an unfair advantage over a potentially better delivery service like Netflix and can jack up prices hurting consumers. If Disney thinks Netflix has too much control over delivery (and they don't, since Hulu, TH-cam and Amazon have all entered that market in a big way with a ton of smaller competitors and others can too pretty easily) they can invest to found a new entity and spin it off into a separate company with which they cannot legally collude.
Aaron Z Hence the need for the lawsuit. They have enough money to fight Disney in Court. Their biggest challenge would be that the US Court system (along with the FTC and DOJ) haven't had much interest in enforcing antitrust laws since the big Microsoft case of the early 1990's.
Netflix will be fine, they got Stranger Things 😂 But I agree, Disney's new streaming service thing is stupid. We already pay for Amazon and/or Netflix and/or Hulu, adding _another_ service just bc they took all their stuff off these services is stupid. Disney already owns a ton, and they're so big they have no threats. This new service idea is just a petty cash grab I think.

When u was little my friends and I decided to dress up as our favourite princesses and I went as Anastasia. We were all going to sing a song from our movies too. I got a Russian hat, and a matching, green coat. When u got up to sing my song (journey to the past) no one knew who I was and I was heartbroken. I started crying and when I got home I watched Anastasia to .make me feel better
Awwww... glad a story about a girl who was actually shot and stabbed with bayonets to death with her entire family cheered you up. There was no journey to the past for Anastasia. She died too and was thrown into a hole with her family. The movie is kinda twisted and whitewashes actual history. There was no Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Moana, etc but there sure was a Anastasia who was murdered...great theme for a disney ride. Shoulda revamped Maelestrom from Frozen to Ride of the Romanovs, from Ballrooms and Faberge to Guns and Bayonets! Thrilling...
It's the animated version of the Ballet "Swan Lake" with more plot and a pair of campy side-kick characters. Overall, it's a great kid's film but a horrible move in general.

Lots of people were real people and later have films based on them, Elizabeth the First has a ton of fictional movies about her. The difference is time, its really disgusting to make a cheesy movie about someone who died brutally in 'our' time.
I think that if Disney gets Fox, they would do a live action Anastasia. It would be full of amazing visual effects, with a slightly different story. That's probably how she would get there. Disney is definitely going through a live action phase.
I feel like if they did do a live action remake, they'd change the plot so it had less magic and more communism. If it were up to me, I'd follow the plot of the Broadway Musical, but unfortunately, it is not.
Anastasia is probably my favorite animated film of all the ones I've seen. Still love Disney, but Don bluth deserves a LOT more recognition. I mean, the first time I saw Anastasia, I was like, DUDE, THE ANIMATION IS SO LIFELIKE, YET SO CARTOON! It totally blew my mind.

I think Disney's overextending themselves with this new streaming service idea. People already have subscription fatigue, and I'm SURE they're going to overprice it at like $15/month or more. They're just working to eek every penny out of us that they can.

"The Pagemaster" really weirded me out… it's not a bad film by any means but I found myself scratching my head in confusion 99% of the time while watching it… granted I never even knew the film existed until I was 16 so that might have ruined the experience a bit. But still.
i'd say no. "disney princess" to me is princess from movies made by disney. disney buying other properties and shoving them to be disney princess doesn't make sense. especially when they have other disney princesses they won't acknowledge for various reasons.
This. It bothers me that Merida is a Disney Princess, not because of anything wrong with Merida or Brave, but because it's NOT from Walt Disney Animation Studios, it's from Pixar. The Disney umbrella corp happens to own Pixar now, but that's no excuse.
However they did own pixar when Brave was made. It would be one thing if the bought Pixar after the movie came out, but they didn't... Disney owned Pixar for 6 years before Brave came out. Meaning that the entire production of the movie, from concept to completion was most likely done under the scope of Disney.
Tangled and Frozen are from Walt Disney Animation Studios, no Pixar involved. (Though it wouldn't surprise me if there was talent and tech passing between the two, of course).

When ever you see the Disney logo combined with Pixar, it means that Walt Disney published it, which is why Merida is able to be a Disney princess because she’s still a Walt Disney product. Disney did not publish Anastasia hence why she most likely will not be a Disney princess. Walt Disney Princesses are any princesses which meet the criteria and are published by Walt Disney. Leia couldn’t be a Disney princess because 1) she was part of a sequel 2) she was not a main character and 3) Disney didn’t publish that Star Wars movie.

Pixar movies have all always been made only by Pixar and published by Disney, both before Disney owned them and now afterward. If both Disney and Netflix are reasonably priced then sure I’d probably get them. But if Disney tries to give us a 30$ streaming site then hell no. I’ll only do what’s cheaper than cable as long as it’s cheaper than cable and if it gets more expensive then I’ll just stick to what’s cheap and free.

While Disney does have resentment towards Harry Potter, mostly because they wanted to adapt the films first, it's Warner Bros who own the movies, and trust me even if Disney wants to buy out Harry Potter, they have to get through Universal first. When Disney bought Lucasfilms, I started seeing all of this fan art of Princess Leia being welcomed by more traditional Disney Princesses, and before you know it, they're opening up a Star Wars center in the middle of Disney World, and coronating Princess Leia in the lineup. If an intergalactic princess can join the lineup by adoption, then a Russian duchess certainly can in the same way. So... this means Anastasia will be coronated at Disney World soon as part of the official Disney Princess lineup. =] SQUEEEEEEE!!! My dream is coming true!
Anyone else worried that Disney owns too much of the media? Yes it has movie franchises, but it also owns TV channels (ABC and ESPN). I wonder what might happen if, once it bought out Fox, if it would move on from entertainment to more news-based channels.
NiteOwel I know, especially so soon after their Netflix deal went into effect. I think they're just money hungry since their disney channel ratings dropped. Its stupid though, they're already so huge and iconic, I don't think services like Netflix and TH-cam are that big a threat. But you know what they say, fight fire with fire.
L Jen Rose netfilx, youtube, apple, amazon, google, facebook are all getting into entertainment and are a threat not just to disney but to all the Hollywood studios they have so much more money and resources. Netflix is spending 8 billion on content next year disney spent 3 billion in ooerating income for the entire company and apple is making a tv show that they are spending 10million an episode on which traditional studios just can't do. Hence the need for this deal. Fox and sony are normally dead last for the big studios as far as box office so them joining with someone else is smart especially fox because sony has their tech to fall on and playstation keeos them afloat
Disney channel rating dropped because their shows are junk and now people have other things to watch. Maybe if they actually listened to what people want to see then they would have such trash on their network. Just like Nickelodeon.

I am horrified by the idea of the Disney streaming service. Between Netflix, Hulu, Disney (and if you include it TH-cam Red), plus sports streaming services, also I have heard the idea kicked around of Vevo leaving TH-cam to try to increase viewership of their site, I am nervous cord cutting traditional medium could make entertainment more expensive. I get it competition is good, and companies want money, and you make a larger chunky cutting out the middle man, but having almost everything you want to watch being funded by a few subscriptions is better for the consumer then dividing it all up and making us pay for all of them seperately.
The question is, will the average consumers subscribe to a dozen different expensive streaming services that doesn't even have all they want, or just start waiting until they can find the DVD boxes of the movies/series in the bargain bin at the supermarket?

Their best option would be to release everything (from television at least) directly to streaming. But, being the super ego based greedy company they are, they'll probably maintain the vault.
Here in the UK the Disney Netflix already exists, it's called DisneyLife. It's cheaper then Netflix and I did a quick look and it has the popular shows, Raven and Lizzie. It had a wide range of films. I saw everything from Star War to Old Disney channel films to the Disney Classics. It also seems to have most soundtracks and you can also read along to a few hundred stories. Honestly, it's a bit of steal. Since it's only £5 (just under $7) each month.
Mia Cornali I saw the Broadway musical over the summer, mostly because there was an actor in it that I was dying to see in person. I have my criticisms, but overall I’m very glad I got to see it with the original cast. It was a lot of money well spent!

I love Anastasia more than Hercules. And I love The Pagemaster and The Swan Princess just as much as I loved The Lion King. The reason I didn’t like Hercules more was because I’m a huge mythology buff and the fact that Hercules got so many things from Greek mythology wrong just bugged me and kinda ruined enjoyment of the movie
Well...Anastasia got so many things about Anastasia wrong. She was a real person who was murdered along with the rest of her family. The monk Rasputin wasn't an evil person who tried to kill her but was rather killed himself prior to their deaths. So if you wanna talk about accuracy...
I watched the Pagemaster as a kid and now that I think about it, it is extremely similar to the Harry Potter series. I also watched Anastasia more times than I did most of but he other movies and enjoyed it a lot. Tarzan was a close second and I also enjoyed the Lion King too.
If you read about her on Pottermore, there is no real explanation, she was always mean (although she seemed to get it from her father, who was also mean and anti-Muggle). And I don't think you need one really. If she started out good it would not make her current actions any less reprehensible, plus some people are just awful without any real "reason".
I just wanted to say, I respect all that you guys do. I will always have a soft spot for wall-e and up, mainly because my grandmother would always take my brother and I to see all those types of movies, and wall-e was the last movie I got to see with her before her sudden passing, and up was the first "kids" movie I saw with out her. Love the stuff you guys put up, and how you help open everyone's eyes and hearts to the genius behind these movies.

Because what they are doing is not actually illegal. It's not illegal for them to buy up most everything dealing with Entertainment. It's illegal to use your monopoly power "Improperly." For example, if Dinsey owned 90% of everything on TV that's perfectly legal. But if Disney made it so that the other 10% couldn't be broadcasted (Effectively making your TV show only 100% Disney) then THAT is illegal. Disney is still very, very, VERY far away from being a monopoly. Antitrust laws can make it so that two large companies can not merge into one. But only SOMETIMES. Edit to add: Apparently Disney was in fact able to buy Fox. So, yep, it was legal.
The Swan Princess and Pagemaster were some of my favorite movies as a kid... but Anastasia was ultimately my favorite, even over my favorite Disney movies

Universal still has rights for solo hulk films but Marvel can still use the hulk so that one doesnt matter. Bassically the only ones Marvel has 0 access to are fantastic 4 and all members of the xmen which are both owned by 20th Century Fox.
Nymphodora McKenzie it's a common misconception. In the grave, next to prince Aleksey wasn't Anastasia, but Maria. Maria is the elder sister of both Aleksey and Anastasia and 3rd child (after Olga and Tatiana) of Nicolas II

Which body was with Alexei, be it Maria or Anastasia, is unclear because neither of the DNA samples exist outside of the remains, but Anastasia was definitely killed at the same time. Facial reconstruction by American scientists have indicated it is more likely the body was Anastasia, however, Russian experts disagree since the age of the skeleton based on the eruption of wisdom teeth is likely that of a woman between the ages of 18-23. Anastasia was 17 at the time, a few months shy, while Maria was 19, fitting into the age range. Despite who was in the grave, Anastasia's remains have been found. Personally, I am more in agreement with the American scientists since wisdom teeth can erupt early in some cases and as the age of a subject increases, the margin of error around the age of a body increases as well.

I had a chance of talking with experts, who helped to find the bodies and followed closely the process of identifying them. So it's not my opinion, but a fact, that two of Romanovs children (Aleksey and Maria) were buried in the separate grave from their parents and sisters. Due to that fact they are still not properly buried. We hope, that by next summer (the 100th anniversary of their gruesome death) Aleksey and Maria will finally be put to rest next to their family.

The Pagemaster is a classic. I used to watch that with my brother all the time when we were kids. He especially loved that movie. We even had the Super Nintendo game version. It's always reminded me of A Never Ending Story with how the main character gets transported into the world of the book he's reading.

I loved The Pagemaster~! I remember Romance, Horror, and… Adventure? Pretty sure it was Adventure. And the switch between RL and animation is really cool.
The Page master, started off live action. Then went to animation when the main character, went in to the story realm. No switching between the two. Maybe the end was live action, but I haven't seen the movie in a long time.
Disney *should* make her a Disney princess… draw in some of their older princess fans. A lot of people know Anastasia, and would likely flock to her appearance at either of the parks to talk with her… and the number of kids that they have that they show her movie to? It’d be a huge success! But that’s my opinion. Also, screw having a Disney streaming service. I want to watch my Disney while watching my Attack on Titan.

Hannah Heart: It's about a young boy who gets magically transported into a world of literature and has to brave a dangerous adventure through various genres of fiction to find his way home. It's 1000% worth a watch. Look it up online or borrow it from the library, you absolutely won't be disappointed. It starts out live action, but becomes animated when he enters the story world, just so you know what to expect.

What Disney is doing, by the way, is completely a violation of antitrust laws and netflix should ABSOLUTELY sue. You can't use a monopoly in one area, content, and use it to give you an unfair advantage in another area, delivery. If it were the normal Disney content, that would be one thing and a closer case, but the purchases of Lucas Films, Marvel, and now Fox gives them such a large portion of all entertainment content that they have an unfair advantage over a potentially better delivery service like Netflix and can jack up prices hurting consumers.
If Disney thinks Netflix has too much control over delivery (and they don't, since Hulu, TH-cam and Amazon have all entered that market in a big way with a ton of smaller competitors and others can too pretty easily) they can invest to found a new entity and spin it off into a separate company with which they cannot legally collude.
Netflix would get decimated because $$$$$$$$$

I got a Russian hat, and a matching, green coat. When u got up to sing my song (journey to the past) no one knew who I was and I was heartbroken. She died too and was thrown into a hole with her family. The movie is kinda twisted and whitewashes actual history. There was no Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Moana, etc but there sure was a Anastasia who was murdered...great theme for a disney ride. Shoulda revamped Maelestrom from Frozen to Ride of the Romanovs, from Ballrooms and Faberge to Guns and Bayonets! Thrilling...

Anastasia is probably my favorite animated film of all the ones I've seen. Still love Disney, but Don bluth deserves a LOT more recognition. I mean, the first time I saw Anastasia, I was like, DUDE, THE ANIMATION IS SO LIFELIKE, YET SO CARTOON! It totally blew my mind.

"The Pagemaster" really weirded me out… it's not a bad film by any means but I found myself scratching my head in confusion 99% of the time while watching it… granted I never even knew the film existed until I was 16 so that might have ruined the experience a bit. But still.

i'd say no. "disney princess" to me is princess from movies made by disney. disney buying other properties and shoving them to be disney princess doesn't make sense. especially when they have other disney princesses they won't acknowledge for various reasons.
This. It bothers me that Merida is a Disney Princess, not because of anything wrong with Merida or Brave, but because it's NOT from Walt Disney Animation Studios, it's from Pixar. The Disney umbrella corp happens to own Pixar now, but that's no excuse.
However they did own pixar when Brave was made. It would be one thing if the bought Pixar after the movie came out, but they didn't... Disney owned Pixar for 6 years before Brave came out. Meaning that the entire production of the movie, from concept to completion was most likely done under the scope of Disney.
Tangled and Frozen are from Walt Disney Animation Studios, no Pixar involved. (Though it wouldn't surprise me if there was talent and tech passing between the two, of course).

When ever you see the Disney logo combined with Pixar, it means that Walt Disney published it, which is why Merida is able to be a Disney princess because she’s still a Walt Disney product. Disney did not publish Anastasia hence why she most likely will not be a Disney princess. Walt Disney Princesses are any princesses which meet the criteria and are published by Walt Disney. Leia couldn’t be a Disney princess because 1) she was part of a sequel 2) she was not a main character and 3) Disney didn’t publish that Star Wars movie.

Pixar movies have all always been made only by Pixar and published by Disney, both before Disney owned them and now afterward. The same thing happened to Princess Leia in Star Wars. When Disney bought Lucasfilms, I started seeing all of this fan art of Princess Leia being welcomed by more traditional Disney Princesses, and before you know it, they're opening up a Star Wars center in the middle of Disney World, and coronating Princess Leia in the lineup. If an intergalactic princess can join the lineup by adoption, then a Russian duchess certainly can in the same way.
So... this means Anastasia will be coronated at Disney World soon as part of the official Disney Princess lineup. =]

Netflix is spending 8 billion on content next year disney spent 3 billion in ooerating income for the entire company and apple is making a tv show that they are spending 10million an episode on which traditional studios just can't do. Hence the need for this deal. Fox and sony are normally dead last for the big studios as far as box office so them joining with someone else is smart especially fox because sony has their tech to fall on and playstation keeos them afloat

I am horrified by the idea of the Disney streaming service. Between Netflix, Hulu, Disney (and if you include it TH-cam Red), plus sports streaming services, also I have heard the idea kicked around of Vevo leaving TH-cam to try to increase viewership of their site, I am nervous cord cutting traditional medium could make entertainment more expensive. I get it competition is good, and companies want money, and you make a larger chunky cutting out the middle man, but having almost everything you want to watch being funded by a few subscriptions is better for the consumer then dividing it all up and making us pay for all of them seperately.
The question is, will the average consumers subscribe to a dozen different expensive streaming services that doesn't even have all they want, or just start waiting until they can find the DVD boxes of the movies/series in the bargain bin at the supermarket?

Here in the UK the Disney Netflix already exists, it's called DisneyLife. It's cheaper then Netflix and I did a quick look and it has the popular shows, Raven and Lizzie. It had a wide range of films. I saw everything from Star War to Old Disney channel films to the Disney Classics. It also seems to have most soundtracks and you can also read along to a few hundred stories. Honestly, it's a bit of steal. Since it's only £5 (just under $7) each month.

I watched the Pagemaster as a kid and now that I think about it, it is extremely similar to the Harry Potter series. I also watched Anastasia more times than I did most of but he other movies and enjoyed it a lot. Tarzan was a close second and I also enjoyed the Lion King too.

If you read about her on Pottermore, there is no real explanation, she was always mean (although she seemed to get it from her father, who was also mean and anti-Muggle). And I don't think you need one really. If she started out good it would not make her current actions any less reprehensible, plus some people are just awful without any real "reason".

When is someone gonna remind Disney that it's illegal to monopolize the entire entertainment industry
Because what they are doing is not actually illegal. It's not illegal for them to buy up most everything dealing with Entertainment. It's illegal to use your monopoly power "Improperly."
For example, if Dinsey owned 90% of everything on TV that's perfectly legal. But if Disney made it so that the other 10% couldn't be broadcasted (Effectively making your TV show only 100% Disney) then THAT is illegal.
Disney is still very, very, VERY far away from being a monopoly.
Antitrust laws can make it so that two large companies can not merge into one. But only SOMETIMES.
Edit to add: Apparently Disney was in fact able to buy Fox. So, yep, it was legal.

The Swan Princess and Pagemaster were some of my favorite movies as a kid... but Anastasia was ultimately my favorite, even over my favorite Disney movies

SuperSwordman1 fox owns deadpool hes apart of the X-Men franchise. Sony only has rights to Spider-Man (who marvel already worked a deal for). Universal still has rights for solo hulk films but Marvel can still use the hulk so that one doesnt matter. Bassically the only ones Marvel has 0 access to are fantastic 4 and all members of the xmen which are both owned by 20th Century Fox.

Anastasia's body was found in 2007 in a mass grave by her brother. Anna Anderson was definitively decided to not be Grand Duchess Anastasia in 1970.
Nymphodora McKenzie it's a common misconception. In the grave, next to prince Aleksey wasn't Anastasia, but Maria. Maria is the elder sister of both Aleksey and Anastasia and 3rd child (after Olga and Tatiana) of Nicolas II
5 skeletons which are genetically siblings have been found and verified to be the 5 Romanov children. Which body was with Alexei, be it Maria or Anastasia, is unclear because neither of the DNA samples exist outside of the remains, but Anastasia was definitely killed at the same time. Facial reconstruction by American scientists have indicated it is more likely the body was Anastasia, however, Russian experts disagree since the age of the skeleton based on the eruption of wisdom teeth is likely that of a woman between the ages of 18-23. Anastasia was 17 at the time, a few months shy, while Maria was 19, fitting into the age range. Despite who was in the grave, Anastasia's remains have been found. Personally, I am more in agreement with the American scientists since wisdom teeth can erupt early in some cases and as the age of a subject increases, the margin of error around the age of a body increases as well.
Nymphodora McKenzie I'm russian and live in the city, where Romanovs were killed. I had a chance of talking with experts, who helped to find the bodies and followed closely the process of identifying them. So it's not my opinion, but a fact, that two of Romanovs children (Aleksey and Maria) were buried in the separate grave from their parents and sisters. Due to that fact they are still not properly buried. We hope, that by next summer (the 100th anniversary of their gruesome death) Aleksey and Maria will finally be put to rest next to their family.

The Pagemaster is a classic. I used to watch that with my brother all the time when we were kids. He especially loved that movie. We even had the Super Nintendo game version. It's always reminded me of A Never Ending Story with how the main character gets transported into the world of the book he's reading.

Ok, Merida is a Disney Princess even though she was made by Pixar and not Disney. Pizar is a company under Disney. Fox is also a company (now) under Disney. Ergo, Anastasia is a Disney Princess.

And the switch between RL and animation is really cool.
The Page master, started off live action. Then went to animation when the main character, went in to the story realm. No switching between the two. Maybe the end was live action, but I haven't seen the movie in a long time.

Disney *should* make her a Disney princess… draw in some of their older princess fans. A lot of people know Anastasia, and would likely flock to her appearance at either of the parks to talk with her… and the number of kids that they have that they show her movie to? It’d be a huge success! But that’s my opinion.
Also, screw having a Disney streaming service. I want to watch my Disney while watching my Attack on Titan.
Well, if they are on separate streaming sites, then you can stream them simultaneously instead of watching one at a time on one Netflix account.

Don Bluth > Disney. Look at all the projects he's done: The Land Before Time, American Tail, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Balto, for a short ass list. They're pretty much the best-of-the-best Animated cartoons, with the deepest feels.

The Prince of Egypt is Dreamworks, not Fox. It's one of my favourite animated movies of all time and I LOVE Anastasia and The Swan Princess.

Hannah Heart: It's about a young boy who gets magically transported into a world of literature and has to brave a dangerous adventure through various genres of fiction to find his way home. It's 1000% worth a watch. Look it up online or borrow it from the library, you absolutely won't be disappointed. It starts out live action, but becomes animated when he enters the story world, just so you know what to expect.
