5:38 wow! This blew my mind! The lift of the legs is actually sideways!!! Maybe seems obvious to some, but this is a big deal when you are very close to getting that press. Thank you, Yuri!
I don't wanna sound mean toward others, but finally a handstand video that's fitting towards my body type. im around 195 lbs and this guy looks to be 171-185 range?? not some skinny kid who weighs 120 lbs. LOL
Super. I am learning English and I am learning calisthenics. 2in1. Speed your English is very comfort for me I understand you. You advice very nice. Thank you
I was dealing with an injury at the time of filming, so I was trying to focus more on the educational aspects without overexerting myself. There are plenty of videos of me doing press handstands. In fact, this video is part of a longer series that involves over an hour of content on how to develop the press handstand. It’s part of my physical philosophy Compendium that you can purchase to my website
Just to be sure: At 2:13 you say "[...]but, I'm not actually closing my shoulders, I'm actually rounding my back", right? Than you very much for this amazing information! I'll do some of these after some weighted pike work to be closer to your (lovely) mobility.
What do you think about footplacement in the takeoff? I see most people (including you) do it with their feet almost 30 cm away from their hands but i found it much easyer to start with a wider stance and almost have my big toe aligned with my wrist. I don´t think thats wrong but because i pretty much taught myself how to do it im curious from a technical point off view
If you can press up, there's no right/wrong, just more and less efficient. The simplest cue I give here is to just try to have the hips as high as possible prior to liftoff. Peoples proportions, strength, and flexibility levels will all be factors as to their starting postions As a general statement, I usually say feet hip width and about one hand's length away from the heel of the palm.
You should still strengthen your shoulders, regardless of the flexibility! Simply, do the drills where flexibility matters less. I would suggest something like planche lean to press start. Start in a push-up position with your fingers facing out. Lean as far forward as you can without falling, without your shoulders sinking (push into the floor). From there, you'll want to keep your weight forward, but slowly round your upper back using shoulder flexion, and you'll try to get your hips as high up as you can. Yes, the distance between your feet and your hands will be limited by your hamstring flexibility. However, you can then try to lift from further away, start building strength, and as you get stronger and more flexible, it will improve.
Hi Yuri, when you are trying to get that initial float position with the feet just off the ground are your hips in anterior tilt? Or is the initial lift off done just by using pushing in to the floor, so trap and shoulder strength?
From experience I would say you just need - a decent handstand ( just for the press you don`t even need to be able to hold it for very long but of corse it helps) - maybe be able to move your legs in different positions while in a handstand so you get a feeling for shifting your body around your center of gravity while maintaining your balance The rest comes from just trying the move or doing some variation of negatives
in terms of the move in the video, there are no prereqs. You can start training this at any level. Basic upper body strength and awareness is helpful though, as is basic hip flexibility. You don't need a handstand for this move, but for an actual press to handstand you do this video is actually a snippet from a one-hour full tutorial on the press handstand where I discuss all this and more. It's currently only accessible to members of my online training group if you are interested in joining.

yuri I love everything about you..I just don't get it..how some people have more subs than you?when they literally just don't know as much and can't teach it the way you do?
thanks, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, knowledge and skill are not the main factors when it comes to subscribers most of my content is too subtle and too real for most people to appreciate. On top of that, I don't do the flashy clickbait thing. Also I'm doing 100% of my own filming and editing, while most big channels have people they delegate that task too anyway, as great as it would be to have a huge following, I'd rather have a quality following
@@yurimar I'm about to start youtube and I want to create something like you..quality information no intros no extreme visual effects and no time of the audience wasted and I'm in a weird position because I also would love to help a lot of people and attract more people to my videos..I don't know how to approach it to be honest but keep it up you have a golden channel..you taught me how to handstand
I totally agree I have been watching few channels and some helped in my progress but none are as subtle and as well explained as in this channel. And they tend to get annoying after a while with all the flashiness and lousy music. Yuri is very modest in his way of teaching and carrying himself with no need to show off his body in every video to attract a younger audience. Your way of teaching Yuri remind me a lot of Emmett Louis another very good quality channel. Thank you so much
Yuri, this is so much what I need to meet my goal of having a nice press handstand that, if you were my neighbour, I would buy you a nice carpet with triple thickness underlay like mine. Comfort is as important as hygeine for health, probably more.

Ugh Yuri, I love you coaching style 😭
Спасибо. Все понятно, буду пробовать.
That was super awesome and so well explained thank you very much
one of the most informative and best channels out there, so glad i found this, keep it up!!
thank you!

Nice and simple explanations
Really good video!
Just found the channel... So glad I did!
Your instruction was very nuance and helpful. Sub.
Amazing!
Would be nice to see you do the press handstand on this video, looks like it would be easy for you.

Awesome!
You are a great teacher Yuri
Thank you very much for this. I will try them the week that commences tomorrow. My aim is to do the full handstand before end of August.
get after it! Though I personally wouldn't put a time frame on it as this is definitely a long term project
Thank you
“Just try it” funny how often that’s true. I tutor in computer science and give the same advice.
exactly. People get too focused on preparation sometimes
Many thanks sir, I'll practice this to improve strengths. More power to your channel.
These variations definitely gonna help! Appreciate the content.
I have been thinking about that today. Thanks bro
thaaaaaaaanks!!! so clear and helpful. I'll immediately try :)
Great video thanks man
great video thank you
Nice video. Thanks for some great tips.
Damn, it's great to see Sheamus finally learned how to do handstand.
Thank you once again for the information in guidance.
Nice video
9:10 i like the push away part, it can make my push stronger and also lower back
Bravo
will i get the old contents if i join the philophy projects?

that's correct. Sorry about that, it's one of the drawbacks of this style of microphone
@@yurimar Than you! And no problem! It was pretty clear as how you describe it, and audio quality is excellent 99.9% of the time so it's worth it.

well, i actually got my press handstand in like 10 hours!

Im so stiff, I can barely reach down below my knees let alone the floor. I’ll come back to this in a few months once I’ve sorted out my flexibility.

I want shorter legs for the L sit to handstand on floor with straight legs😂
