Loving these collaborations. These busy blocks are often under our needles... you have shown us how to break it up into focal point and frame. Thank you!

You're very welcome! It will be easy for you too - just quilt at least 10 minutes a day. Anything you do every day will become easy very quickly.

Thanks. I am having trouble Quilting a log cabin quilt. The design is by Jennie Beyer so is suffisticated and the colors are beautiful. I was going to stitch in the ditch but you have given me some new ideas.

My best advice is to hang up the quilt and spend a lot of time looking at it. Decide what you want to emphasize and where you wish there was more design. It takes time to be able to see this so be patient. I've set quilts aside for years and then suddenly been ready to quilt them. It's nice to wait until you're ready.

I love that pop of orange! What is the fabric collection? You make free motion quilting look so easy. I love the contrast between the leaf pattern and straight lines - very nice!

This is Jackie Kunkel's Fresh Catch batiks. They're such a beautiful combination of green, bright orange, and brown batiks. I like that contrast too - to be honest I knew I needed to tone things down or I was just going to make a mess!

wow...the eye really does go to the center with all of your quilting around it. i find batiks very beautiful, but very tricky to quilt because the patterns can be very busy with multiple bright colors. Just curious what you would do differently had this been solid fabric rather than batiks?

Hmm...that's hard to say. If the fabrics had been solids I might have quilted it very differently. I know I would have quilted it differently if all the blocks were symmetrical and identically arranged because I would have played off the braid design. It's different with every quilt and I always take time to consider what I want to do for awhile before jumping into a project.

I would love to see you quilt with rulers without moving the quilt around, sometime it’s hard to follow. Thanks

Hmm... It sounds like you need to get on your machine and try it Cathy! You'll find it much easier to understand with a ruler in your hand.
