Not even I on my Honda cd175 twin felt even slightly embarrassed but I salute you sir for daring to take this granny-mobile out of the Queen's highway! It is an improvement let's say on the BSA Ariel 3 being sported on another channel - some chap called Eadsie as I recall! The machine called granny-killer for perhaps obvious reasons. Well top marks for brass neck and persisting into the inclines and headwinds....
Your lack of knowledge stunned me, most people with basic understanding would know the orange ones are faster than the blue ones. Very entertaining and reminded me of my moped in 1976, that was a blue one and when I learnt the blue ones were slower
I admire your intestinal fortitude, mate!!! Not so much of an Asbo, more like a bus ticket!!! Well done. I thought mi tinnitus was running riot until I realised it was the exhaust 'note'.
My sister had one of those in yellow ,it ended up under a wagon near Chester ,while she was negotiating a roundabout ( 1980’s ). Lucky she managed to survive the ordeal & ended up passing her test & riding much larger machines .
Hello Paul, Steady now taking that corner flat out!! I reckon we may all end up on a bike like that, owing to the cost of petrol, probably get 140 mile per gallon! I am sure you didn’t look ridiculous! Cheers Paul, that was fun to watch, regards Kevin.
Now I come to think of it, you've reminded me a lady schoolteacher I met. She bought herself one of these but gave up riding it because she didn't think it would be so heavy when she bought it. I guess it shows that there are people out there for whom a vehicle like this has some appeal and there are other folk who are better suited to the passenger seat in a car.
I was on the edge of my seat ....... willing it to get a shift on! You might at least have picked up a loaf of bread to make it worth your while. Definitely alternative fun, thanks.
I think it would be fun to haul it to the top of Black Mountain, then have some one follow you home. A good test of the brakes it would be. Sixty years ago I and four of my friends had Sears Allstate -Puch 2 speed Mopeds.I think they were $ 189.00 dollars new. None of us had a license. We would always head for the country side to avoid the cops, The bikes had a 2 speed and a top end of 32 mph. One day at the junk yard we found a heavily finned Bridge Stone 50 head that bolted wright up. The compression increase was immense. If you pulled on the bars you could do wheelies in second gear. One day the bottom end said good by. You need dog treats for Bantam Hill.
nice one my boss had a few of these old girls knocking about in the garage where i used to work as. amechanic up in good old north wales managed to get a few of them goin too before we closed not far away from where i live now by the looks of it too lol
You can have a lot of fun going fast. On a slow bike they say… but if you like your fun shot through with an element of sheer terror and existential dread, try it down a Welsh hill on a Honda Express!
Not for heading into the hills, that one. Nice enough little grocery-getter or just getting 'round campus or town bike though, I suppose. I'd still prefer a nice old Honda step-through Cub/Passport...even a teeny 50.
Have you checked the points? My old Tomos used to go like that on hills when the points gap had closed up (and by default retarded the timing), something it used to do with tedious regularity to the point a kept a screwdriver in my pocket.
I don't think the compression would be any different and that wouldn't affect the revs vs speed in any case, but one automatic clutch may have been slipping a little more than the other and the engine in the orange one felt a bit more powerful.
I've got one of these, if you can get it Into it's powerband at about 20mph it will climb well. 0-10 is very weak hence the reason the later models were 2 speed with a variatior and weights to play with. I'm thinking about changing the clutch springs on mine to give it higher revs at a lower speed.
Is this the 2 speed race version? Oh, doesn't sound like it, Did your gearchange foot keep twitching? Dropped out the power band up Bantam Hill. No seizure though.

"Let's go and hold some traffic up"! Priceless!

Looks like you weren’t kidding when you said it was hard work 😓 l could see the beads of sweat 😅 on the camera lens.😊
😁
Considering the cold weather at the time this video was made, at least you were in no danger of suffering from wind chill!

Ha ha ha Milly walks into shot, stops looks over then moves on. She is a star 😝
What an experience of a kind. Agony up "Bantam Hill" the dog must have been asleep. What's next LOL 👍
I'm proud of you, law abiding citizen : the printing on the road says "slow"

The Honda Express is as minimal as mopeds come, apart from autocycles. My favourite is the Honda P50 with the drive system in the back wheel.
Its good that you've retained your sense of humour. Clearly not the sort of running this machine was built for.

Thanks - I will keep that in mind!
Performance Classics, 😂🤣
I've a soft spot for these little machines from when I was 16 back in 1980.
I doubt I could jog up that hill these days. 😢
Did you notice much difference in the power delivery between this and RE V twin Paul?! 😊
This blue one did seem to be revving higher on the flat road than the Orange version.
Could that be because of less compression on this blue one?
I don't think the compression would be any different and that wouldn't affect the revs vs speed in any case, but one automatic clutch may have been slipping a little more than the other and the engine in the orange one felt a bit more powerful.

You should have packed sarnies and flask of tea in the basket. But it did look a beast🤭
I sincerely hope you didn't let the neighnours see you on that LOL

Think the later ones had 2 speed variable trans & a proper kickstart & later on had luxuries like an electric start & reed valve.
Be careful of the hail. Collision with solid objects will slow you down
It's not old enough for historic vehicle status then? Mind you how much is the tax on it, 50p?
16 year olds thinking ' well its quicker and easier than cycling 😁 I think more mopeds would be sold if they upped the speed to at least 40 mph.
Wear dark glasses nobody will recognise you... a ripper mate
I think you may be taking this machine outside of its design brief...
