Someone told me that after you salt the shrimp for 24 hrs, you can put it in a container with minced garlic overnight and use when ready to fish. This works especially well with attracting catfish. Any thoughts on how this should be done? Will the juices moisten the shrimp or would it be better to use garlic powder instead of minced?
You dont need a freezer, you are curing the bait. You can either leave it in salt, lasts longer or take it out and put in a sealed bag, doesnt last as long.
After they’ve been salted for a few days or a week, do you have refrigerate them or freeze them if your not going to use them right away or can they stay out and for how long
Salt is hydroscopic so it absorbs moisture at a high rate. if you leave your container open it will go bad, because the salt will collect moisture from the air. You are basically dehydrating the shrimps, or other bait. zip loc bags work well with small batches. So use a container with a tight lid.
@@musaddadhadanan4082 putting it the freezer slows down the process causing the bait to go bad. if you properly cure your bait in salt it will not deteriorate.
Use whats avaible to your area, here we have 9 different kind of shrimp and a small variety of small squid. We dont have access to pilchards or bay sardines and the mullet only come through twice a year. We do have menhaden but they are better used live or fresh dead. As far as mussels they are not a viable option either.
does it work with already cooked and frozen shrimps? its exstremely rare to find raw shrimps where i live, they are usualy cooked on the shrimp boats already before they get to the shops. and fresh cooked shrimps are WAY to expensive to use for bait
Go to Asian food market like a Korean or japanease market in your town . Thy sell the frozen sirimp or raw shrimp Guarantee. I’m sure any where thy have a Asian supermarket in USA
Sweet
I can tell sir, you are definitely a master baiter.
ha
Haha
Once you salted the shrimp do you put it in the fridge or keep it out for 24 hours?
Never mind just read a comment about it .
Same doubt

Salt them together - it will be more of a brine

4got 2 Ax sardines ?? were they raw or processed already interested in salting them somehow 2 stay on hook better ?? thoughts ?? TY
Cant use anything cooked has to be raw and fresh.
finally need to put it in freezer or keep it dry place enough?
keeping it dry is good enough. freezing is ok, but constant cycles of in and out of the freezer build up moisture and is not recommended.
Thanks Buddy :)
no prob, anymore questions you can also shoot us an email by visiting jelsmaoutdoors.com
So can you salt other small fish like that will they work kind of like a minnow
Yes, just gut em
did you only put salts? or something else mixtured with salt?
Muhamad Amirul no, just salt. now the salt is old salt but you can add "flavour" but dont be heavy handed on it.
Great video, thanks very much for posting.
For fishing in fresh water, or the ocean?
Yes
Ocean
Does it make a difference if the salt is iodized or not
Non iodized sea salt is preferred...
Not really but it is best to use a non idonized salt
After they’ve been salted for a few days or a week, do you have refrigerate them or freeze them if your not going to use them right away or can they stay out and for how long
As long as they arw dry - forever
What kind of salt you are using and where can I get some
Non idionized, walmart
Shrimp, clams, frozen raw calamari raw clipped to strips and small scallops work well
For how long do you leave the shrimp in the salt
Sergio Casas they are ready to use at any point, but, best left for a minimum of 24 hrs.
24hrs
Does it need to be covered by lid or keep it open?

Can we Refrigerate once salting is completed with zip lock?
what if we do not peel it off...?
sorry if already mentioned as i have a bad listening...
Farrukh Sheikh it has the potential to rot before curing.
do i put it in a freezer or a dry place. And also do i put the lid on or let it have dry air?
No freezer, too humid of an environment. Place in a dry area and unless you like the smell of fish i would suggest putting it in a sealed container.
Thanks but would not it still smell if not put in the freezer? Because the shrimp would deteriorate. Thanks for helping.

Hello. How does it do in hot weather in Florida after it's been salted?
No issue
Show how do you remove salt?
You don’t. Just knock any clumps off and put it on the hook. The water you cast it into will do the rest
If i do this, Can i keep shrimp or clam for 1 week or 1 month??
Or best only 1-2days before we use it?
Any tips for newbie? Thanks..
good for 1 year granted youkeep away from moisture and sunlight. good for use immediately, no need to wait to use, but best after 24 hours.

@@JelsmaOutdoors yeah salt
I find salted mussels or pilchards/sardines are better. These baits let out more scent to attract fish.

After curing with salt, how do you dry the wet salt out for the next batch?
Spread it out on a sheet and let the sun dry it. Or use your oven.
thumbs up and shared
Thanks
Cool vid! I know you said to use non iodized salt. But what happens if you do use regular iodized salt?
